Section 4.4

2. Purpose
The purpose of this document is to highlight minor changes and streamline the testing
procedure for all Consolidation/Infill sites been built across each Operators Network. This
revised testing guideline will cover the required spectrums that each Operator uses. And
capture the same information previously delivered using each operator respective Testing
Specification.

2.1 Changes
Test engineers should revert back to the guidelines provided by each operator as both Testing
Specifications are very similar for the tests being carried out on sites going forward. However,
some changes have been made to System tests going forward and are as follows;

2.1.1 The ASC/WTMA will not be included in the SRL testing for Meteor Only with
the inclusion of all markers as per the uplink and downlink bands below in
Table 2. For sites that have cavity combiners as part of the system separate
SRL tests are required for both O2, and MMC and H3GI given the uplink &
downlink frequencies o indicatedn below in table 3.
2.1.2 Limits are defined in new MOSAIC rigging test sheet. The limit for Meteor
Only SRL test on UMTS will now be 15.5dB the value determined within the
Downlink (Tx) band only is required.

2.1.3 The limit for all other SRL tests across the full bandwidth spectrums will now
be 14dB

2.1.4 The labelling convention for all stored plots and documentation are to be
A, B, C convention.

3. Changes to Spectrums

When setting up the Site Master for testing whichever band in question simply extend
the lower and higher limits to take in all threeboth operators spectrum as shown in Table 1

For the full system test i.e. SRL simply extend the Markers on both the Uplink and
Downlink bands for LTE 800, U/GSM 900, LTE/GSM 1800 as shown in Table 2 below.
*For SRL tests on the LTE/GSM 1800, separate tests are to be carried out showing the
specific uplink and downlink bands assigned to each operator
For UMTS, theThe ASC/WTMA will notw be included in the SRL test with the inclusions of
markers 1, 2, 3 & 4 as per the uplink and downlink bands also in Table 2 below.

Table 2

Use the specific ports assigned for tests through the 900 ports of cavity combiners for
both O2 and MMC and H3GIas these are operator band specific assigned frequencies.

4. Test to be carried out

The tests required from each installation will be determined on whether the antenna
system is been interfered with or not or whether it is anew installation as with the
current Three rollout on Infill and NRA sites.
4.1

Radio Logical Share Tests

When installing a Radio Logical share solution and not interfering with the Antenna
system one SRL sweep of each Antenna line System is sufficient given the steps on
page 2 are followed.
SRL
System Return Loss to Antenna (ASC/WTMA not
included (MMC Only) for UMTS systems)

4.2

Tests of the system when Introducing Hardware

When carrying out the following on a system;
a) Replacing antennas
b) introducing Air Cavity Combiners
c) ASC/WTMA swap out (faulty) or upgrade
The following system tests should be carried out prior to work on the system to
determine the status of the system pre-works. See below the test to be carried out
when this is the case.

PRE-SRL
System Return Loss to Antenna (ASC/WTMA
included (MMC Only) for UMTS systems)

not

Once all works is carried out 1 SRL sweep of each Antenna line System is sufficient
to determine the status of the system. See below the test to be carried out when
this is the case.
SRL
System Return Loss to Antenna (ASC/WTMA not
included (MMC Only) for UMTS systems)

Mosaic Testing Guidelines

*When testing through the 900 ports of a Cavity Combiner separate SRL test for
both O2, and MMC and H3GI will be required. Markers must be set as per the values
on Table 21 above to each operators specific Uplink and Downlink band. Then
marker 5 peaked between 1 & 2, marker 6 peaked between 3 & 4. Markers for H3GI
and peak to be added. These additional test are only required when testing
900cavity combiners. See below the test to be carried out when this is the case.

4.3

Re-terminated feeders Tests

When the feeders on a system are re-terminated the following system tests should
be carried out prior to work on the system

Once all works is carried out the following tests must be carried out

*This test is only required when antenna works is been carried out on
site in conjunction with the re-termination on the feeder at ground
level.
SRL

4.4

Three Installation feeder Tests

When carrying out new Three installations following system tests should be carried out
post installation. All data captured in the tests below will allow full completion of the Rigging
Acceptance Document which will replace the previous VC4 form.

5. Examples of tests to be captured

Example for point 4.1
For a Radio logical share solution while not interfering with the antenna system based
on a three sector site a total of 1 test per cable, per technology band
(800/900/1800/UMTS) total - 6 SRL tests (12 for dual-band or 18 tests for a tri-band site
or 24 for four band site) are to be carried out.
Example for point 4.2
If antennas are to be replaced or additional hardware are introduced to the system and
based on a three sector site a total of 2 tests per cable, per technology
band( 800/900/1800/2100LTE/GSM/UMTS) 1 pre-test, 1 post-works test total 2 tests per
cable (12 tests for single technology, 24 tests for dual-band, and 36 tests for tri-band
ad 48 for four bands) are to be carried out.
*When Testing through the 900 ports of a Cavity Combiner separate SRL test for O2,
and MMC and H3G are required to be carried out, thus adding a total of 96 tests per
three sector site (for 900 onlyexample) (Ref; Table 2).
Example for point 4.3
If the feeders on the system are re-terminated and there is antenna works been carried
out based on a three sector site a total of 3 tests per cable, per bandtechnology
(LTE/GSM/UMTS800/900/1800/2100) 1 pre-test, 2 post-works test total 3 tests per
cable (18 tests for single technology, 36 tests for dual-band, and 54 tests for tri-band,
72 for four band) are to be carried out.

Mosaic Testing Guidelines

If no antenna works is been carried out then 2 tests per cable, per technology
(900/1800/UMTS) 1 pre-test, 1 post-works test total 2 tests per cable (12 tests for
single technology, 24 tests for dual-band and 36 tests for tri-band) are to be carried
out.
Example for point 4.4
Where troubleshooting is required because of poor test results make sure to eliminate
the possibility of Vodafone antennas in close proximity or adjacent to installed
antennas. Each operators spectrum would need to be specifically tested and not across
the full bandwidth spectrum which includes Vodafones spectrum (Excludes LTE 800
spectrum).

6. Feeder Attenuation and Velocity Factor

The host site cable type will determine the feeder cable attenuation and velocity factors that
will entered into the Site Master database. These values can be obtained from each Operators
Testing Specifications.

7. Plot/Documentation labelling Convention

All stored plots and documentation are now to be A, B, C convention as opposed to 0, 1, 2 or
1, 2, 3. (Feeder labelling on site will remain as per the host convention down to the Air Cavity
Combiner then guest labelling convention will be used on the jumpers from the Air Cavity
Combiner to RBS)

8. Summary

Mosaic Testing Guidelines

Always investigate if test results are borderline, even marginal passes. All new
systems should clearly pass, if not then theres something wrong.

Dont just walk away and expect it to be OK!
