TI Foundation Lauds Success of Scholarship Recipients

The Thousand Islands Foundation (TIF), which awarded 16 scholarships to students in the
Thousand Islands area school districts at the completion of the 2014 academic year, has high
praise for those students after a review their first semester progress. "We are extremely proud of
the academic successes of the scholarship recipients," said TI Foundation Scholarship Review
Committee Co-Chairs Michael Brennan and George Forbes and Foundation President Cary R.
Brick. "They are accomplishing their goals by working to achieve outstanding academic
successes in a wide range of colleges."
The TIF, established in 2002, has awarded more than $275,000 in scholarships to students in the
four school districts. Its recent affiliation with the Northern New York Community Foundation
enhances its mission of providing scholarships to students in the Alexandria, Lafargeville, Lyme
and Thousand Islands school districts by ensuring its sustainability into perpetuity while
maintaining its independence. It will continue to raise its own funds for future scholarship
awards through contributions to the Community Foundation. TIF's nearly $1 million in assets are
stewarded by the Community Foundation, a philanthropic organization founded in 1929 with
current assets in excess of $50 million. Based in Watertown, it has forged similar relationships
with scores of individuals, families, community organizations, businesses, and school districts
throughout Jefferson, Lewis and St Lawrence Counties. The Community Foundation now collects
tax-deductible contributions on behalf of the TIF.
