What Tie to
Wear

Can't decide on what tie to wear? Well I have made simple a

guide to help you through your tie crisis. The ties Im going to talk
about in this guide are a black or white bow tie, four-in-hand necktie,
bolo tie, cravat, or an ascot. Most of the time men wear ties its usually
a semi-formal or formal event. With so many varieties of ties its hard
to pick out what tie to wear to which event.
A bow tie is a great, trending neckwear to wear with a dress
shirt. Wearing a bow tie shows your individuality or appreciation for
something a little different. You can wear a bow tie to dress up a nice
outfit, and a bow tie can be an acceptable neckwear to most events.
You can wear them to restaurants, semi-formal events, a date, and to a
classy event. Most people believe bow ties are for nerds, but they are a
great way to show your style and taste.
The next piece of neckwear is called a four-in-hand tie. This is
believed to be the most popular choice for neckwear. This is a very
classic piece of neckwear that can be worn to formal events such as
weddings, important business meetings, and restaurants. A four-inhand necktie should class and confidence.

The next tie is called a bolo tie. A bolo tie can be worn at any
time so the question should be, when shouldnt you wear a bolo tie?
Some occasions like black tie events are quite specific about dress
codes, but otherwise a bolo tie fits in anywhere as it can be worn both
casually and for smarter wear.

The final pieces of neckwear Im going to talk about are cravats

and ascots. You don't see a lot of people wearing these neckties, so be
careful when you decide to wear this because it can show that your
style is outdated. I wouldn't suggest wearing this to most events
unless your reenacting the 19th century. Your best choice would be
wearing a bow tie or four-in-hand tie.

A Necktie Party?
What is a necktie party? The average person may think this is a
party where avid tie fanatics show off their fancy tie collection, but
whoever thinks this is sadly mistaken. Thanks to my extensive
knowledge from cowboy movies I know the correct answer.
A necktie party is actually a hanging or lynching. People were
hanged illegally without authority by a mob. Back in the day, this term
was most often used when discussing about people of African descent
or race. Traditionally a necktie party would be carried out at night in a
remote or desolate location least likely to be visited by legal
authorities.

Blue and White

Collar Jobs
The terms blue collar and white collar are used to distinguish

workers who perform manual labor from worker who perform

professional jobs. The reason why these terms are used today all has
to do with history. Historically, blue collar workers wore uniforms,
usually blue, and worked in trade occupations. However, white-collar
workers typically wore white button down shirts, and worked in office
buildings.
Blue collar workers perform jobs that involve labor such as
worker with their hands. These jobs consist of aircraft mechanics,
plumbers, electricians, janitors, and many more. Many blue collar
workers are low-skilled because their job require simple tasks such as
cleaning, maintenance, and assembly line work. Most blue collar jobs do
not require a formal education to perform basic duties.
White collar jobs are professional jobs and worker usually
perform duties in a office. Most white collar jobs consist of bankers,
assistants, accountants, and real estate agents. White collar workers
require at least a high school diploma, but most require an associate's,
bachelor's, master's or professional degree.

Shirts vs. Skins

The term shirts and skins refers as a way to divide a team
when playing a sport. People use this term typically in public as a way to
easily distinguish who is your teammate and who is on the opposing
team. Instead of buying colored flags to wear you can have one team
play with their shirts on and the other team with their shirts off.

1870s Fashion
By the 1800's ties had become popular among the wealthy, the
military and in schools. Their variety and style grew and more and more
options became available. Men began to wear patterned ties of all
colors. The most distinctive of this era was a slim cravat with a very
small bow tie.

1600s and 1700s

Fashion
In the 1600s fashion wasn't a big deal for most men. However,
wealthy men of Europe felt the need to change this perspective and
began to wear lace ruffles around their necks. In the mid to late
1600's, the Croatian soldiers began to wear cravats, which were a
necktie of sorts and part of their uniform. The French took this cravat

and changed it up a bit by using high end fabrics to wrap the collar and
introduced the turned down shirt collar. King Louis XIV liked this style
of neckwear so much that he even he began to wear them and a new
styling trend began.
By the 1700s the tie became a part of French tradition and was
rarely seen elsewhere until in the late 1700s. King George IV was the
first to wear a white tie. later, King George the V brought the black tie
into fashion and it quickly became very popular among all men.

1900s
Fashion
In the 1900's mens ties were introduced in various widths and
sizes. The novelty tie may have begun as a trend when in the 1940s
when Salvador Dali created the first one by using his artwork on a tie.
This became very popular and more and more men wore ties as personal
fashion statement. This era was followed by thin narrow neckties, wide

ties and normal width modern neckwear.
