Building Commissioning
From college campuses to hospital operating suites, from education to housing, TRC Worldwide
Engineerings MEP services provide the vision and innovation to solve our clients' needs.
We offer a broad range of experience in projects as diverse as health care facilities, high-tech
manufacturing plants, educational facilities, museums and libraries, criminal justice complexes,
research laboratories, residential complexes, office buildings, telecommunication buildings,
retail and food service facilities. Our clients include building owners in both the private and public
sector.
Each project and client is carefully evaluated permitting us to match the right professionals and
resources to each assignment. Whether your needs are design of systems for a new facility,
renovation of an existing facility or study and analysis of your present systems, TRC has the
knowledge, experience and the latest technical tools to meet and exceed your expectations.
Our design philosophy is to create environments that are energy efficient and sustainable
without compromising comfort, indoor air quality and required temperature and humidity
conditions for preservation of contents. Our sustainable and energy efficient designs start from
the inception of the project and continue through construction and final commissioning of all
systems. During the conceptual design phase, alternative systems that meet the project
requirements are considered, analyzed and evaluated. Selection of the system is based on the
criteria that best meets the requirements of the owner and the project objectives. Each system
component is carefully evaluated and selected based on its applicability to the particular
building occupancy, its efficiency, sustainability and its operation and maintenance
requirements. Computer modeling is used extensively for analysis and evaluation of HVAC and
lighting systems.
Building commissioning services offered by TRC ensures that all systems meet the design intent
and operate to their maximum efficiency. After each component in the system is individually
tested, the systems are tested as a whole to ensure coordinated and seamless operation
Commissioning
Approach
A systematic process of ensuring that all building systems work interactively, accordingto
the design intent and the owner's operational needs.
Coordinates system documentation, equipment startup, control system calibration, testing
and balancing, performance testing and training.
DOES NOT take away from or reduce the responsibility of the design team or the installing
contractors to provide finished, fully functional, and well coordinated building systems.
Objectives
Verify that equipment and systems are installed according to the design, to manufacturer's
recommendations, to accepted industry standards and they receive adequate operational
checkout by installing contractors.
Verify and document proper performance of equipment and systems.
Verify that O&M documentation is complete.
Verify that the Using Agency's operating personnel are adequately trained.
Philosophy
Complete and clear understanding of Owner's needs and requirements.
Involvement from preliminary design stages to post occupancy.
Commissioning in a cooperative environment. Prevent confrontation.
Development of systematic and organized procedures, clearly presented to all team
members.
Close involvement of Owner's O&M Staff during the process.
We Have Successfully Completed over 100 CDB Projects Directly or as Consultants.

TRC is providing structural and mechanical engineering services for Our Lady of Lourdes
Hospital located in Lafayette, Louisiana. This project is a new replacement hospital designed to
accommodate the addition of the medical office building. The hospital will be a six level facility
totaling 378,000 GSF with an additional 16,000 GSF Central Energy Plant. The Emergency
Room Entrance will be elevated from grade to serve as the roof of the Central Energy Plant.
We are utilizing Early Steel Detailing to produce the structural steel shop drawings. Steel
detailing will begin at the design development level of the construction document process using
the structural RAM model developed by the structural engineer. Steel shop drawings should be
released for fabrication approximately one month after the structural steel shell package is
released.
