4) Did the experience of diversity (cognitive, demographic, etc.

) have any impact on

your groups functioning? Explain with examples.
Yes diversity in our group had impact on our groups functioning & it impacted in the following
ways
Based of Cultural diversity (Language):
As we all are from different parts of India. Out of 7 member group four of us are from northern
part of India and remaining three are from southern part of India so in the beginning
language(Hindi) used to be the barrier. In the beginning it used to be difficult for us to mingle
with everybody in our group. It impacted negatively on groups functioning in the beginning.
Example: One of our group members(BYJU) is from Kerala, he doesnt know hindi , though he
is creative but he could not contribute his part in the beginning later we found his talent and used
him as our key player in making creative presentations. He has got creative ideas but due to
language barrier he could not show up his talent.
Based on Demographic diversity(Male/Female ratio):
As there was only one girl(Surabhi) in our group, in the beginning she was not able to contribute
100% input from her side but later on as the time passed on she began gradually taking the lead
and she took initiation in most of our assignment submissions.
Example: She motivated us and played a vital role in getting A+ grade in Marketing course.
Based on Psychographic diversity
i) IPM//PGP ratio:
In our group 5 members are from technical background and 2 members(Vidyadhar and Gaurav)
are from IPM(non-technical) so there used to be two different perspectives in solving problems
like making presentations, dividing the work and who should compile etc. this kind of mindset
impacted on our group performance, because of this there were many conflicts and
miscommunications took place between understanding level of both PGP and IPM. But finally it
helped in solving most of the group assignments.
ii) Work Experience:
In our group out of 7 members three members have work experience , having people who have
work experience in the group which had a positive impact on our group. One of our group
members(Kuldeep) has 3years work experience which helped us to achieve things easier. His
planning and strategy have been worked. He used to divide the tasks accordingly on capability of
each individual member and he guided us very well which led us to be ended up with good
grades in group components. Although it was team effort but his contribution must be
appreciated.
Besides these one more thing was there which is based on location of stay, we are staying in
different hostel blocks, none of us are staying in same block,in the beginning there always
miscommunication used to be taken place. None of us wanted to move to other blocks for group
meetings. However if we decided to meet in somebodys room but few of us used to go others
room because of this we used to lose valuable time and most of the time we used to worry about
assignments deadline. But as the time passed on we have overcome it and gained positive output.

Example: For Industry Awareness (IA) course we had to prepare a presentation and present it in
front of the class, for this we had a group meeting in Kuldeeps room and we stayed till morning
4 am, everybody in our group participated enthusiastically and prepared a good presentation with
everybodys input. The following day we have presented it in front of the class and we got
appreciated for our work by professor. There after every time we used to meet in his room for
every assignment submission.
This kind of diversity helped us to get good grades as well as we have learned how to be an
active group member. Though it impacted negatively in the beginning but by the end of the term
it helped us a lot.
