2 Hardware and software prerequisites

The prerequisite for using the Offboard Diagnostic Information System Service diagnostic software is to register at the
erWin portal (electronic repair and workshop information). Please select erWin Information Tour there to access more
information on erWin.
The diagnostic software can be installed on VAS hardware (VAS 5051B, VAS 5052A, VAS 6150, VAS 6150A, VAS 6150B
and VAS 6160) or commercially available laptops or PCs.
It can be procured on a data medium via the erWin portal or via download. To use ODIS Service, a free licence and usage
rights subject to charge (flat rate) need to be acquired via erWin. These steps are described below in chapters 5 and 7.
To use the Bluetooth diagnostic radio head, VAS 5054, a Bluetooth module is required (already integrated in all VAS
testers, apart from VAS 5051B). To be able to use the device, a connection is required between the Bluetooth device and
the hardware.
To use PassThru devices as per SAE J2534, please install the current driver for the diagnostic interface used.

4 Using the erWin product wizard

The erWin portal provides a product wizard, which supports you in the steps required for vehicle diagnosis
using the Offboard Diagnostic Information System Service diagnostic software.

you need to log in first.
If you do not have an erWin user name yet,
please register first via the menu item:
My erWin > Registration.

(2)

Enter your erWin user name and password.

(4)

Click on Vehicle diagnosis.

4.1 Notes on the Org ID
The Org ID is an identifier specific to dealerships. It is required at several points on the erWin portal, e.g. to
order a licence file, or to purchase usage rights (flat rates) for the diagnostic software.
The Org ID is made up of the two-digit country code (e.g. EN), the five-digit partner number (e.g. 12345)
and a brand code (e.g. C for Skoda). You can obtain this data from your importer.
The brand codes are as follows:

V for the Volkswagen brand,

A for Audi,

C for Skoda,

S for Seat,

E for Bentley,

L for Lamborghini.

In the event of a combined multi-brand dealership, 0 (zero) must be used as the brand code.
Examples of valid Org IDs:

DE12345S: German dealership with the partner number 12345 and brand rights for Seat.

AT543210: Austrian dealership with the partner number 54321 and several brands (e.g.
Volkswagen Cars, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Audi).

5 Creating a licence on the erWin portal

To install and use the diagnostic software on a tester, a licence file is required. This licence file is linked to
one or more testers at a dealership. It also provides the information on which Volkswagen Group brands the
diagnostic software can be used for.
The licence file can be obtained free of charge via the erWin portal. For this, the following steps are
required:
(1) The prerequisite for ordering a licence is to select
the erWin portal, login and select the erWin
product wizard.
To do this, carry out steps (1) to (6) in chapter 4.
Another prerequisite is that there is an Org ID,
which is specified in the product wizard (see
step (5) in chapter 4).

(3)

Click on the Hardware ID Generator link.

ODIS Service Quick Guide for UMB_v1

(2)

Click on Generate licence in the product wizard.

(4)

Click on Run. As an alternative, you can click on Save

(blue box) to download the program to a USB stick and
run it on another tester. You thus avoid having to open the
erWin portal site with every device. Important: You must
create a separate hardware key for every tester on which
ODIS Service is to be installed.

Offboard Diagnostic Information

System Service
(5) The program creates the hardware key. Press OK
and the hardware key is copied to the clipboard.

(6) Enter your Org ID and enter the hardware key in the
field provided.
Please also observe the notes on the Org ID in
section 4.1.
If you want to use ODIS Service on other testers, click
on the
to obtain input options for the hardware
keys for additional testers.

(7) Then, click on the Generate licence button. The

licence file with the name license.dat is provided to
you for downloading.

(8) Save the licence to the desktop or to a network folder

that your test devices can access.

(9) The licence ordering process is now completed. You

can continue to install ODIS Service (chapter 6).
Note:
To be able to use the diagnostic software for several brands, a licence needs to be created on every erWin brand
portal. The licence last created contains the brand rights for all brands for which a licence was previously acquired.
If an existing ODIS Service installation is to be extended, the software must be uninstalled first, and re-installed with
the extended licence.
It is therefore advisable to create a multi-brand licence before the initial installation of ODIS Service.
