Procedure for the trouble shooting of 'Higher output Voltage' of the generator.

'Higher Output Voltage'

Check that the lines of Excitation equipment


loosely connected or opened.

are

AVR sensing lines(A1 & 3 terminals of AVR)


are opened.

Excitation equipment materiel are damaged.

A.V.R is damaged : change it to normal operating


A,V,R.

Series resistor (R1) is damaged.


Check the boltings on the auxiliary terminals in the
terminal box.
Reactor (L1) coil are burnt or internal defect.
(Reference value setter, 90R) is internally opened.
Rotating rectifier (V2) are burnt or internal defect.
Discontinuity the cables between current
transformer(T1, T2, T3) and reactor (L1).
Steady rectifier (V29) are burnt or internal defect.
Discontinuity the cables between A.V.R output
and Power thyrister.
Power thyrister (V28) are blocking fail.

Check the connecting status on the taps


between Reactor (L1), Rectifier transformer (T6),
Steady rectifier(V29) and A.V.R.

Rectifier transformer (T6) secondary winding are


internal defect.

Check whether there would be any coloring point by


excessive heating with all the transformers
(T1,T2,T3, L1, T6, T4).

*. The cause and trouble shooting for each fault of the machine including excitation equipment.

Several different causes can produce same abnormal result during setting of excitation equipment
So, it is recommended that the trouble shooting should be started to check one by one from

Check that the lines of Excitation equipment


loosely connected or opened.

Discontinuity the cables between Current


transformer(T1, T2, T3) and Reactor (L1).

Current transformers (T1, T2, T3) secondary winding
are burnt or internal defect.
Discontinuity the cables between Exciter field
(F1, F2) and Static rectifier (V29).
Power thyrister are internally discontinuity.

Check the connecting status on the taps


between Reactor (L1), Rectifier transformer (T6),
Steady rectifier(V29) and A.V.R.

Rectifier transformer (T6)porimary winding are


internal defect.

Check whether there would be any coloring point by


excessive heating with all the transformers
(T1,T2,T3, L1, T6, T4).

Check that the lines of Excitation equipment


are loosely connected or opened.

Check that the VR(Reference value, 90R) lines are


loosely connected at the gen' auxiliary terminal
block

Check that the Series resistor (R48) terminals


are loosely connected.

Check the connecting status on the taps with


secondary winding of Current transformers
(T1,T2,T3).

Check the boltings on the Auxiliary terminals in


the terminal box.

Check whether the engine speed of prime


mover has the hunting or not.

Excitation equipment materiel are damaged.

A.V.R is damaged : change it to normal operating


A,V,R.

Check whether there would be any coloring point by


excessive heating with all the transformers
(T1,T2,T3, L1, T6, T4).

Power thyrister are internally discontinuity.

Check the connecting status on the taps


between Reactor (L1), Rectifier transformer (T6),
Steady rectifier(V29) and A.V.R.

The resistance value with bypass Resistor


(R48) is too loo.

Incorrect adjusting of potentiometers


(K. T. R47) on AVR.

The accurate load sharing is impossible if the


voltage droop values by droop potentiometer
("S" on A1) are too low.

High variation of active power due to instability


of Engine speed.

Incorrect active load(KW) sharing due to different


speed variation ratio of each Engine.

A.V.R is damaged : change it to normal operating

Check whether there would be any coloring point by


excessive heating with all the transformers
(T1,T2,T3, L1, T6, T4).

Check the connecting status on the taps between


Reactor(L1), Rectifier transformer(T6), Steady
rectifier(V29), Droop T/R(T4) and A.V.R..

Trouble Shooting for electric trouble of generators.

The voltage decreases with light load and then increases with higher load during
on-load maximum voltage setting.

Check that the lines of Excitation equipment


are loosely connected or opened.

Check whether there would be any coloring point


by excessive heating with all the transformers
(T1,T2,T3, L1, T6, T4).

Inveres polarity or interchanged connection of 2.1


and 2.2 cable with Current transformer(T1,T2,T3).

Interchanged connection between two of the 3


phases cables from the secondary winding of
Current transformer to the Rectifier transformer.

Interchanged connection between tow of the 3


phases cables from the main bus to the
input(U1,V1,W1) of Reactor(L1).

Interchanged connection between tow of the 3


phases cables from the output(U2,V2,W2) of
Reactor(L1) to the primary winding(1U1,1V1,1W1)
of the Rectifier transformer(T6).

Inveres polarity or interchanged connection of 2.1


and 2.2 cable with Current transformer for
Droop compensation(T4).

Setting too low turn number(too output current)


of output winding for load tap of
Rectifiertransformer(T6).

Trouble Shooting for electric trouble of generators.

Sudden voltage drop during on-load operating.

Check whether there would be any coloring point


by excessive heating with all the transformers
(T1,T2,T3, L1, T6, T4).

Insulation failure between turns on the secondary


winding of Rectifier transformer(T6).

Check that the lines of Excitation equipment


are loosely connected or opened.

Opened circuit with one or several cables or pins


between the secondary winding terminals(2.2) of
Current transformers(T1,T2,T3) and the input
terminals(2U,2V,2W) of Rectifier transformer(T6).

Insulation failure between turns on the secondary


winding of Current transformers(T1,T2,T3).

There would be magnetic saturation due to the


lack of capacity or quality with Current
transformer(T1,T2,T3) or Rectifier
transformer(T6).

Opened circuit with the cables or pins between the


output terminals(U2,V2,W2) of Reactor(L1) and
the primary winding terminals(1U1,1V1,1W1) of
Rectifier transformer(T6).

The failure of the diode for Rotating rectifier(V2)


and Static rectifier(29).

*. To investigate the exact causes of it, inform the actial phenomenon to makers
(Generator and Engine maker resepctively).
