Message
No matter how good things are in our life, there is always a challenge that needs to be
worked on. And no matter how bad things are in our life, there is always something good we
can thank God for. Always have a grateful heart.

Understand how beautifully God has added one more day in your life, not because you need
it but because others need you.

In March of 2011, a woman approached me and asked if I will be willing to celebrate Mass in the City Jail on a particular Sunday. I accepted the invitation, thinking it
is just that once. Trying to observe protocol, I called up the parish priest requesting
for permission before going to the prison for the Mass, he answered that the prison is
independent and under CAPA (Cebu Archdiocese Prison Apostolate). I told the
Fr. Martin
woman to inform the overall prison chaplain in the Archdiocese before I will go
there. In the end, one of the Prison Wardens called me up to assure me that they will
get the necessary permit.
On going there for Mass that Sunday (1st Sunday in April), I saw a multitude of men
and women willing to listen to word of God, and their situation physically is good but

their mental framework is not so good. The jail I learned is a detainee camp where
suspects are kept while the trial is going on, surprisingly some have been there for
more than 11years and still no judgment yet. Before I left that Sunday, I had an agreement with the prison officials that I will be celebrating mass there every first Sunday
of the month after knowing that for almost one year they had no regular mass there,
only the lay members of CAPA visit and catechize them monthly.
Since then I have been going there more than once a month for confessions and
visits as I have come to know most of them personally. Going to the prison comes
with lots of responsibilities, keeping up with the story of each one that comes to you
and of course helping them with their material needs, but in all these, there is joy in
associating with them and preaching the word of God to them despite my busy
schedules in the Hospital and the Center in the squatter area.

A beautiful world can only be seen thru the eyes of a happy heart. May you have a
happy heart to see the beauty God made especially for you.

Do not place your mistakes on your head. Their weight may crush you, instead place them under
your feet and use them as a platform to view your horizon.

Faithful servants never retire. They serve faithfully as long as theyre alive. You can retire
from your career but never from serving God.

Happiness is not something you have in your hands, its something you carry in your heart.
Give it away generously and it will return to you a thousand fold.

Saint Valentine
Jesus makes us brave when we are afraid; strong when were weak; but foremost, He
teaches us to carry our crosses daily and follow Him.

Life continues whatever happens. All we need is to be positive and be brave with all the
challenges we encounter. Faith in God is still the best armor.
