LEDs are not really new in the Philippine market. They are those
tiny lights that you see in modern traffic lights, exit signs, handheld devices such as flashlights. You will also find them in
security cameras, camera flashes, backlighting for LCD televisions
and lightweight laptop displays, automotive lighting, streetlights,
Christmas lights, and architectural lighting. LEDs are also used in
medical equipment, airport and heliport lighting, aquariums, and
a host of other useful applications.
LEDs are durable and use very little amount of power for as low as
0.3 watt. They will soon be the next generation of lighting
devices that will reach our homes and offices after the
government has completed its work on setting energy
performance and safety standards.
The LED Exhibit is being supported by the Asian Development
Bank through the DOEs Philippine Energy Efficiency Project. A lot
of the LED products displayed at the DOE booth came from ADB.
We also have exhibitors who came all the way from Manila like
Clark Premier Industrial Park, Inc., Greenworld, Landlite, and
Megaman. While Philips was not able to make it they also provide
support to this activity.
The Photo Exhibit on the second floor is sponsored by the UNDPGlobal Environment Facility through the DOE-implemented project
called the Philippine Efficient Lighting Market Transformation
Project or PELMATP. The photographs were taken by selected
artists from the Camera Club of the Philippines, a very prestigious
club composed of well-known enthusiasts, such as Atty. Raymund
Fortun and the late Francis Magalona. The Exhibit features the
Faces of Light in Life to depict the importance of lighting in our
daily lives.
These two main projects that we are introducing in the form of
exhibits are part of a gamut of contributions that the DOE is
