Purpose
The Compliance Officer and SpEd Coordinator shall oversee the school Special
Education program, while ensuring compliance with state and Federal Education
laws and regulations.
Qualifications
B.A./B.S in education or related field, MA/MS in related field preferred
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
Essential Skills and Experience

3-5 years of related experience working with students with special needs
Overseeing compliance with federal and local laws and regulations
Managing private and confidential information and data bases
Working with governmental and non-governmental agencies.

Job Responsibilities
The Next Step Public Charter School is seeking to hire a Compliance Officer with
a background in Special Education to provide coordination of services for
students with disabilities as indicated by IEP or 504 plan, by following all
procedural safeguards. The CO will:

Be the data administrator for Easy IEP; ensuring all users are trained and
certified.

Administer appropriate student assessments as needed, coordinate IEP


meetings, ensure services are in place and that compliance and goals are
met.

Coordinate and facilitate all MDT and IEP meetings and will work with
teachers to ensure IEP goals are being met, that all related services are in
place, and that proper documentation is taking place.

Serve as the liaison to DCPS and will review compliance monthly with the
LEA.

Assist with transition plans and assist students and families in the
transition process, connecting them to appropriate agencies.

Ensure legal and regulatory compliance with No Child Left Behind and the
following:
o Titles I, II, III
o Title IX
o FERPA
o Language Access regulations

Other duties as assigned.

Participate actively in special events, including field trips, community days,
and college tours, graduations, Monday community meetings and staff
meetings.
Participate actively in school responsibilities such as hallway and lunch
supervision
Participate in assessment administration as needed throughout the school
year
Work cooperatively with colleagues to develop and implement effective
and relevant policies
Adhere to school policies as described in personnel manual and/or staff
handbook
Reflect upon performance, set goals for improvement, and take advantage
of training opportunities to learn and implement effective strategies
Maintain an organized, clean, and inviting work area
