In the wake of Eric Garners tragic death at the hands of the NYPD, the community has responded

relentlessly with mass demonstrations. For a list of direct actions endorsed by Housing Works as
an endorsing organization of a citywide coalition against police violence, visit
www.thisstopstoday.org, and see the events listed below.
Housing Works is also organizing a demonstration with the Audre Lorde Project that will
take place next week on Wednesday, December 17, to renew the call for transgender
rights in the face of police violence. If youre interested in helping to organize the event,
contact us at j.benjamin@housingworks.org.
Over the next month, there will also be plenty of opportunities to advocate to end discriminatory
and violent policing, the AIDS Epidemic, and the record homeless crisis in New York City. A
list of calls-to-action appears below.

Annual Homeless Outreach Population Estimate
Monday, January 26, 2015
On Monday, January 26, 2015, advocates will join the NYC Department of Homeless
Services to conduct its annual Homeless Outreach Population Estimate (HOPE). We
need thousands of volunteers to canvass parks, subways, and other public spaces to
estimate the number of people living unsheltered in the city. Just one night of your
time will help us collect vital information for outreach teams to help homeless people
leave the streets for a better life. Contact d.fleischman@housingworks.org for more
information.
