Flexi-EDGE supports most of the features of CX BTS Manager.

The following slides describe the new or changed functionality.

Improved Commissioning
Remote recommissioning
Minimum requirement is an OMUSIG link
File based commissioning (SCF)
Complete SCF
All parameters for that site in a single file
"One-click" commissioning
Template (EasyWizard) SCF
EasyWizard product is available for Ultrasite
Allows commissioning by an inexperienced user
Only site specifics need to be entered (eg BCF ID, serial numbers, ...)
Trials have shown that a secretary can commission the site with no training
"Partial SCF"
An incomplete file that needs to be completed by the commissioner
Provides full flexibility but requires a more competent commissioner
Required for those sites that do not have standard configurations
"Fallback"
When connected to a commissioned site the existing SCF is uploaded
If there are problems with the new configuration the old configuration can be restored

Standard configurations do not need RF cabling to be defined

by the commissioner
Exception: Antenna cabling cannot be autodetected still
must be manually entered
No need for "HW Configurator"-type tool
Cabling may still be defined manually for configurations not in
the list of standard configurations (list to be supplied in

MHA and VSWR settings entered in commissioning wizard

Flexi EDGE BTS Manager Commissioning

Overview
Commissioning Wizard has two parts
1.
Collect parameters via Wizard screens to
construct an SCF
2.
Send SCF to BTS and monitor progress
Existing SCF automatically uploaded from BTS*
*SCF upload from

uncommissioned BTS
is coming in pre-3
Less SCF provides lots of flexibility in commissioning process

Antenna settings: MHA type, VSWR limits, etc
Battery backup settings: type, installation date, etc
Passive unit Serial Numbers and Product IDs
Transmission settings cannot be changed by the Commissioner

Modifying Settings
Settings of an already commissioned BTS can be changed
BTS Manager calculates if
recommissioning is needed
recommissioning requires a BCF reset
Recommissioning triggered by:
Tranmission PIU type changed
Interface type changed, eg E1 to T1
RF cabling detection type changes from autodetected to manual or viceversa
BCF is not in supervisory or configuring when SCF sent*
Automatic upload of SCF from BTS fails
Uploaded SCF is needed to determine the changes, if there is no
uploaded SCF then BTS Manager has to send all parameters again recommissioning
*This restriction may be lifted in the final customer release

Remote Connection
Remote connection requires operational OMUSIG
BTS must be in commissioned state
Changes to BCF ID or OMUSIG location will result in loss of remote link
BSC changes needed to re-establish connection
If BCF ID changed then remote connection parameters need to be changed
Warning given in each case
Undo commissioning not available
Considered too risky
Can only be recovered by site visit

FlexiHub Manager used to configure microwave parameters
Microwave capacity appears as virtual E1 lines (upto 16)
Virtual E1 lines configured just like real E1 lines
Microwave link must be operational before SCF is sent to BTS for success

Flexi EDGE BTS Manager Remote Troubleshooting

Limitations
All features are supported in remote case, except the following:
Reset into local mode (BTS Control->Disable Abis) this would need a
local visit to reset back into a BSC connected state
RTC tuning can only be done without BSC connection
Undo Commissioning - considered too risky
TRX tests that require external hardware
