Keeping you informed about Express Scripts

As we plan not to be part of Express Scripts (ESI) pharmacy provider network as of Jan. 1, 2012,
we want to ensure that our patients understand the facts about our current situation. Thats why
were asking team members to rally to engage and retain as many ESI plan members as possible.
Heres information on the past weeks events relating to ESI and whats coming:
Aug. 24: President and CEO Greg Wasson delivered a video message updating team members
on our situation with ESI and explaining how we can all play a part in retaining as many ESI
plan members as possible in 2012 and beyond. A replay is now available on Channel W.
Aug. 25: Kermit Crawford, president of Pharmacy, Health and Wellness, and Mark Wagner,
president of Community Management, gave a video presentation to market and district
leadership. They provided information on how we can all work together at the market, district
and local levels to be recognized for the value we provide to patients and payers, and how we
can advocate for the healthcare choices our patients deserve.
The week of Aug. 29: We launched the I Choose Walgreens campaign, which includes in-store
signage, brochures, the ichoosewalgreens.com website, buttons and T-shirts at select stores.
Over the next few weeks, well also send letters to patients who are ESI plan members,
expand our Department of Defense petition campaign and institute road shows in markets
with a high number of Medicare Part D patients who are ESI plan members.
We want to ensure all team members have the tools to communicate with the ESI plan members in
our stores. Its important we outline the steps these patients can take to keep filling prescriptions
at Walgreens and enjoying our valuable services. For more information, see the ESI communication
toolkit on WalNet and StoreNet.
Distribution center charity drive update
The numbers are in, and this year our distribution centers (DCs) raised nearly $482,000 for 19
different charities. Every year, team members at our DCs vote to decide which local charity they
want to support and then make plans to raise money for that charity through various fundraisers.
Walgreens matches up to the first $20,000 of the funds raised by each DC. Heres a list of the DCs
and the charities they supported:
Anderson: Clemson University Outdoor Lab; Berkeley: Aspire of Illinois; Flagstaff: Hozhoni Foundation;
Houston: Houston Childrens Charity; Jupiter: Little Smiles; Lehigh Valley/Kutztown: Camelot for Children;
Maspeth: Lymphoma Research Foundation; Moreno Valley: Paralyzed Veterans of America; Mt. Vernon: Casa
Lake County; Orlando: Central Florida Miracle League of Orlando; Pendergrass: Friends of Disabled Adults and
Children Too; Perrysburg: Assistance Dogs of America; Puerto Rico: Make-A-Wish Foundation of Puerto Rico;
Rogers: Elk River YMCA; Valparaiso Return Center: Exceptional Equestrians Unlimited; Waxahachie: Promise Child
Development Center; Windsor (Conn.): The Village for Family and Children; Windsor (Wis.): Wisconsin Alliance for
Fire Safety/Burn Camp; Woodland: Make-A-Wish Foundation of Sacramento and Northeastern California

HERES TO YOU!
Mayank Amin, pharmacist at 1375 Forty Foot Road in Lansdale, Pa., recently organized the
second annual childrens health fair in his community. The fair, called Caring for Kids, was
a day-long educational and recreational event that provided health screenings, safety and
parenting workshops, presentations by healthcare professionals, and fun activities for children. Walgreens provided prizes for the children, and team members helped with healthcare
services. This year, we focused many of our workshops and activities around healthy eating
and physical fitness, says Amin. Its a message we hope becomes a part of our customers
everyday lives. Amins dedication to this cause was quickly recognized. On Sept. 16, during a
Philadelphia Phillies baseball game, Amin will receive an award for the work hes done for the
childrens health fair and making a difference in the community.

STATS
Hurricane Irenes wrath
In the aftermath of Hurricane
Irene on the East Coast, we
have one store in Hillsdale,
N.J., that is still closed due to
severe flooding.
Considering that on Sunday
evening, Aug. 28, we had
about 430 stores closed
due to the storm, its quite
an achievement to have reopened all those stores.

ANSWERS
Q: Our weekly ad coupons
sometimes say Except
in New Mexico. Can you
explain why that state is
excluded from coupons?
A: The except in New
Mexico line on our coupons doesnt refer to the
coupons themselves, but to
the limit we place on how
many items a customer can
purchase using the coupon. By law, we cant limit
quantities on ad offers in
New Mexico. So when one
of our coupons reads limit
4 except in New Mexico, it
means that in all states except New Mexico, we allow
customers to purchase only
four items with the coupon
discount. Theres no limit in
New Mexico.
