Loving Montana

Darren
Scott,
an
ASI
employee who has been
working on the plunge pool
project below the Fort Peck
Spillway, has finally fell in
love with Montana. He grew
up in Philadelphia but came
up here from New Mexico.
However, it wasnt his first
time visiting Montana. While
playing college football in Las
Vegas, they traveled to to
Montana to take on the MSU
Bobcats. What he remembers
most about his first trip to the
Big Sky Country was, We
got our butts kicked. Hes
apparently got over that,
though, as since working
here he has fallen in love with
northeast Montana enough
to call it home even after the
work is finished at Fort Peck.
A genuinely nice guy, Darren
currently resides at St. Marie
with plans to buy. I absolutely
love it here, he says.

Dr. Chip made a special house call to Glasgow last week

Dr. Chip Halverson is a
licensed naturopathic physician in
the state of Oregon and Montana.
Dr. Halverson regularly lectures
locally and nationally on a variety of
health topics and their connection
to optimal wellness.
Last week had him giving a
free optimal wellness health talk at
the Cottonwood Inn in Glasgow as
he was excited to give back to the
community that helped shape his

character in his formative years.

Chip grew up in Glasgow,
graduating in 1987. His senior year
as a Scotty had him playing on the
1986 Class A state championship
football team and he followed that
up by going undefeated at 185
pounds to win a State A wrestling
title. He then attended Concordia
College in Moorhead, Minnesota
where he graduated in 1991 with

Landowners have until January 15, 2015 to submit

an application for 2015 pheasant releases through
Montanas Upland Game Bird Enhancement Program.
Under Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks pheasant release
program, landowners who attempt to establish pheasant
populations in suitable habitat can be reimbursed for
raising and releasing ring-necked pheasants.
Landowners interested in raising and releasing
pheasants have until Jan. 15, 2015 to submit an
application. Landowners can apply annually for up to
five consecutive years to establish pheasants.
Projects must comprise at least 100 contiguous acres of
land and contain a combination of habitat components
that include the types of cover and food upland game
birds need to survive. Lands enrolled in the pheasant
release program must allow free public access to hunt
upland game birds during the season the releases take
place.
Applications need to be received by FWP in
Helena no later than Janury 15, 2015. Pheasants will be
scheduled for release in the late summer between Aug. 1
and Sept. 15.
Hunting preserves, lands that host a commercial
hunting enterprise, and lands where hunting rights are
leased or paid for are not eligible.
For more information, and an on-line application
form, visit FWPs website at fwp.mt.govsearch Upland
Game Bird Enhancement Program, or contact Debbie
Hohler at: 406-444-5674, or by e-mail: dhohler@mt.gov.

Keystone XL pipeline shot down in the Senate

The Democrat-controlled Senate failed to gather
the 60 votes it needed to approve the construction
of the Keystone XL pipeline, rejecting a measure the
House of Representatives approved last week.
The vote Tuesday evening fell one shy of the 60
needed to overcome the filibuster, with 14 Democrats
joining all 45 Republicans in backing the project.
The Keystone XL pipeline project has been at the
center of a major political debate since 2008 when
TransCanda applied for permission to construct the
1,179-mile-long pipeline.

In the near term, the vote means President Obama
gets to avoid a difficult decision on whether to veto the
bill. But Senate Republicans said he shouldnt get too
comfortable because they will pass a new version as
soon as they take control of the chamber next year.

For so many good reasons, well be back with this
after the first of the year, said Senator Lisa Murkowski
of Alaska, a Republican who is poised to replace Ms.
Landrieu as head of the Senate Energy Committee.
And I believe that the momentum weve gained means
well see progress and see this bill passed.
Based on Tuesdays vote and Senate balance

next year, Republicans should have enough support

to overcome a Democratic filibuster but not enough
to override a presidential veto. Given the number
of Democrats who supported the bill on Tuesday,
Republicans may well be able to muster a filibusterproof 60 votes to pass the pipeline in the next Congress,
but they are still likely to fall a few votes short of 67, the
number required to override a presidential veto.

Hinsdale, Montana

Priced at $134,500

Dr. Chip continued from front

honors, including earning NCAA Academic and
Athletic All-American recognition.
After graduation he began a successful teaching
career in Montana and Washington.
Once teaching, he became heavily involved
researching the issues surrounding children who had
both learning and behavior difficulties. The latter led
him to complete a masters degree focused on ADD/
ADHD. He also completed school administration
requirements, focusing on Indoor Environmental
Quality (IEQ) and its relationship to occupational
health and academic achievement. Additionally, he has
assisted the EPA, National Education Association and
many other local, regional and national organizations
as they navigate issues surrounding IEQ and its impact
on learning and teaching.
From a young age he had an interest in natural
therapies and was strongly influenced by his grandfathers
cancer diagnosis and integration of alternative and
conventional medicine in the early 1980s. It was not
until the mid-90s when he experienced his own health
crisis that he discovered naturopathic medicine. Shortly
thereafter, he returned to school, completed a 3-year
pre-med program, as well as an additional 5-years of
medical school. Dr. Chip graduated with a doctorate
in naturopathic medicine, including honors in research
from National College of Natural Medicine in Portland,
Oregon.
During medical school he focused on researching
physiological detoxification pathways at Helfgott
Research Institute and served as student body president.
Dr. Chips interest in environmental health comes from
over two decades as a volunteer, mentor, speaker, teacher
and administrator. Now as a naturopathic physician, his
specialized family practice focuses on both acute and
chronic health and achieving optimal wellness at the
cellular level.
Dr. Chip is both a researcher and clinician with

experience in treating patients with some of the most

difficult health conditions. He is a primary care physician
with a special interest in managing patients with chronic
illnesses, including autoimmune disease, endocrine
disorders, gastrointestinal disorders, neurological
conditions, hormonal imbalances, allergies, integrative
cancer support and environmental illnesses.
Additionally, Dr. Chips education and
background lends itself to working with school
employees, adults and children with autism and
ADD/ADHD, optimizing academic performance
in both high achievers and struggling students,
amateur and professional athletes, children,
teenagers and adults. His therapies focus on optimal
lifestyle choices for each specific condition and
include recommendations on diet, sleep, exercise,
supplementation, herbal medicines, homeopathy,
hydrotherapy, physical medicine, including using
cold laser, heart rate variability studies, percussion,
mobilization,
neuromuscular
massage
and
neurolymphatic balancing , and a European form of
medicine called Bio-Therapeutic Drainage.
Health is a reflection of physical, mental,
emotional, spiritual and energetic balance. Dr.
Chip is committed to helping his patients achieve
homeostasis and optimal wellness.
Dr. Chips health talks have been well received
in part because they give people strategies they can
use to optimize their health immediately. During the
presentation Dr. Chip intertwined many stories about
health that people can relate to and understand.
Dr. Chips interests include spending time with
his wife, Dayle and their three children, exploring the
Pacific Northwest, teaching, skiing, hiking, camping,
biking and traveling.
