Mark is a film director from British Columbia who now living/lives in Hollywood. He
is living/has lived in the United States since/for 1987, first in New York then in
California. He is married to an American. They have a two-year-old son whose/whom
name is Kent. Here are Mark's views on America and Americans:
Americans are easy and comfortable to live with, but/because it is not that easy to get
to know him/them well. In spite of their appearance of openness and informality, they
are actually reserved and polite with their opinions. You don't get to know them too
well if/unless you spend some time trying to understand what they are thinking.
Sports are very important. Canadians like sports too, but there seems to be a few/a lot
more interest in them in America. Sport plays/is playing an important social function.
American football, baseball and basketball are popular subjects which/what are
common in casual talk and are an important conversational icebreaker.
