PARTS OF SPEECH

I. NOUN
I.1. DEFINITION
A noun is a word which is used to represent a person, place, quality, thing,
action, idea, occurance, and can function as the subject os a sentence or as
the object of a verb, the object of a preposition , or as an appositive.
The examples from the above definition are as follows :
a. Person
Each underlined word in the following sentences is a noun related to
people and function as a subject or as an object of a sentence.

". A police captured a smuggler yesterday.

b. Places

city, island, earth, mount, river, office, house, sea, planet, etc, and proper

-ed $ea, Atlantic, .enus, /ilton /otel, etc.
Each of underlined words in the following sentences is a noun related to a
place and function as a subject or as an object of a sentence.

c. Things
Things include something that substantively exist whether it is solid or
liquid such as animal, sugar, oil, water, sand, tree, car, food, etc., many
*ind of gasses such as smi*e, air, steam, etc., and something which
substantively doesn1t exist but it is conceptually understood and has a

particular quality such as ideology, religion, dream, behavior, concept,
feeling, expectation, sound, truth, appearance, news, profession, etc.

substantive things or unsubstantive things and can be used as a subject or
as an object of a sentence.
