Dear Sir or Madam,

In life we are forced to make many choices and these choices sometimes are influenced by our
environment. I had the opportunity to grow in a developing country whose explosion of
economic activity in recent decades expanded my horizons as never before. I cannot deny that
it was this dynamic and growing environment that led me to choose the global market as my
main focus of work.
In a first moment, I studied fashion marketing and design in Brazil, as Brazil does not yet have
an academic program that can supply my demand, and immerge myself in the luxury market,
in France I decided to continue my studies in the Luxury Brand Management sector, an area
that each year has been more and more explored and with a great potential for developing
countries such as the BRIC countries. As you can see in my cv, after studying and doing an
internship, the contact with this market in Paris and in Europe, made me want more, learn
more and delve further on all that is related to the true brand development management and
marketing.
I believe that the short time I spent in Paris made me see what it was missing to become a full
professional in all ways, like more theory and practice, especially in the fields of co branding,
brand management, consumer behavior and business in general, area which I am particularly
interested, not necessarily in the fashion and luxury market but in a international marketing as
a whole.
So I found an alternative in Berlin to continue my studies and deepen my knowledge, city
which is fascinating in terms of history, culture and economic, a city which in such a short time
was able to rebuild itself and globalized itself and become nowadays one of the most dynamics
and cultural mix places in Europe with a propitious ambiance to get the management business
side with the creative side like Berlin is.
And BSW for being the only business school to have the academic program that I am searching
for to become the professional I want. I believe that in such a dynamic school I will be able to
enrich the debates and make a strong contribution with the background and experiences that I
have from such different cultures (like Brazil and France), with my entrepreneurship side as
well as my creative side.
I believe that this master will give me the opportunity to deepen my knowledge and receive
the complete picture of all aspects of marketing and management in another country and
some day be able to carry all my learning to Brazil.
Thank you for considering my application.
Yours Sincerely,
Maria Fernanda Azevedo Castro da Rocha
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am hereby applying for the Masters Degree program in Economics & Informatics with a
specialisation in Economics and ICT at the Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) in September
2009.
First of all, I will give you some background information on my studies. I graduated a Bachelors
Degree in Computer Sciences in September 2007 from the University of Lige in Belgium and I
will graduate a two years Masters Degree in Computer Sciences in June 2009 from the same
University. My computer sciences focuses where on networking and on computer vision. I had
the opportunity this year to attend to a Business module within my master program, which was
worth of 30 credits, and it was given by the Universitys Management School. I applied to this
module because I already appreciated some economics and management courses in my
degrees and I wanted to go deeper in these subjects. Another reason was to enlarge my
horizons career that is having the possibility to evolve inside a society and to switch between
different working field instead of being stuck in a position or in a specialized field. I enjoyed this
module a lot so it is why I want to go one step further in this field.
Secondly, I will explain my way to choose the Erasmus University Rotterdam. I wanted a master
degree taught in English for obvious international reason and because I always enjoyed
speaking English. I searched an university in the Netherlands for two reasons: the greatest is
the language because as I live in a country where dutch is one of the national languages I think
that is normal to learn it. I will be glad to follow dutch courses on top of my master degree. The
second reason is the proximity with my girlfriend, my family and my friends. Next I searched for
the University that can allow me to develop my skills in economics and management in an
international context. The reputation of the Management faculty being not negligible I
naturally end my researches on the Erasmus University Rotterdam where the Economics and
ICT program fits extremely well with my current studies and with my desire to follow a
complete master on economics and management.
Thirdly, I will give you some reasons why I also fit to this program. During my studies I had a lot
of project to do and most of them were group work. It helps me to develop strong
communication and cooperation skills that are essentials in management. My studies give me a
great background in technology that can be a solid base for the learning of technology
management. The fact that Computer Science is an exact science gives a very rigorous mind. I
am not afraid of taking responsibility since I am the delegate of my class and I have been
responsible of different scouting sections during many years. On top of it, I have a very curious
mind and I appreciate to do things correctly.
To sum up I am highly motivated to attend to this program because it perfectly match what I
wanted to do after finishing my computer sciences studies. Thank you for considering my
application. I would be very pleased to be granted admission for the fall term.
Sincerely yours.
