Temptation in form of earthly amusements....
You should not thin that the opponent !ill "ypass you e#en if you
stri#e to!ards God.... $is influen%e is unrestri%ted as long as the
human "eing&s !ill is !ea. Only a strong !ill %an offer him the
resistan%e !hi%h he %annot o#er%ome.
The !ill is al!ays de%isi#e as to !hether he gains %ontrol o#er a
person. But if the !ill !eaens his influen%e "e%omes stronger
again' and the temptations approa%h a person in the most #aried of
!ays. For this reason he must %onstantly struggle' he must
%onstantly appeal for strength and gra%e' for strengthening of his
!ill' he must %onstantly "e on his guard so as not to su%%um" to
the temptations of e#il' he must !at%h and pray.... for the pri(e is
!orth the "attle....
The !orld and its enti%ements approa%h the human "eing time and
again' it is the ad#ersary&s most effe%ti#e means to %ause the
human "eing&s do!nfall' for e#erything !hi%h "elongs to the !orld
separates the human "eing from God. $e %annot possess God and
the !orld at the same time' he must sa%rifi%e one if he !ants to !in
the other.
The !orld' ho!e#er' only offers illusi#e goods !hi%h are phantoms
that mae a person only temporarily happy and !hi%h %rum"le into
nothingness. They ha#e no lasting #alue "ut still destroy spiritual
#alues' that is' they distra%t the human "eing from spiritual
stri#ing' and this is a regression on the path of de#elopment.
The opponent %onstantly intends to deta%h the human "eing from
God' therefore he repeatedly approa%hes him in the form of !orldly
amusements' he enti%es him !ith !orldly pleasures' he tries to turn
his mind to them and there"y desert God. )nd if a person does not
oppose him !ith a firm !ill he !ill su%%um"' and the opponent !ill
ha#e !on his game.
The human "eing&s "ody en*oys the e+perien%es "ut the soul gets
into diffi%ulties' for to the same e+tent as the person en*oys earthly
pleasures the soul has to go short.
,f the soul %an "e%ome stronger than the "ody then it !ill su%%eed
in maing the person feel dis%ontented- these are the inner
admonitions and !arnings !hi%h are imparted to the person
through the inner #oi%e' if only he pays attention to them.
Then he !ill mae e#ery effort to o#er%ome his in%lination for the
!orld and !ith in%reased determination stri#e spiritually again. )nd
this determination !ill also gi#e him the strength and the gra%e of
"eing a"le to a%hie#e it.
But the #oi%e of the !orld is fre.uently stronger than the inner
#oi%e' in that %ase the latter !ill fade a!ay unheard' he !ill thro!
himself in%reasingly deeper into the !hirlpool of !orldly pleasures'
he !ants to en*oy himself and gets %aught in the opponent&s nets of
lies' !ho !ill tie the human to himself e#er more firmly "y offering
him the pleasures of the !orld and maing him totally unre%epti#e
to spiritual possessions. $e has "ound his !ill and the person !ill
find it #ery diffi%ult to release himself from him' for the human
must turn a!ay from him of his o!n a%%ord and desire God "efore
the strength and gra%e %an tae effe%t in him.
)nd therefore "e!are of the temptations "y the !orld/....
0onsider that God&s ad#ersary !ill approa%h you time and again
and that only your !ill is a"le to "anish him. )nd in order for this
!ill to "e%ome strong enough' you must !at%h and pray....
Pay attention to the danger which constantly lies in wait for
you in the shape of worldly temptation, and constantly
request the strength from God to withstand them, for e#ery
fall is a spiritual regression' and e#ery o#er%oming !ill "ring you
%loser to the goal. What God offers you is in%ompara"ly more
#alua"le and %an ne#er e#er "e %ompensated "y !orldly goods'
!orldly pleasures or amusements.
Be #igilant and no! that you are %onstantly put under pressure "y
God&s ad#ersary' !ho intends to mae you fall.... Therefore appeal
to God for strength and strengthening of your !ill so that you %an
resist e#ery temptation....
