Review common infinitives in Spanish.
INFINITIVOS
Verbs are words that are most often used to name actions. Verbs in English have
different forms depending on who is doing the action or when the action is occurring:
I walk she walks we walked

The most basic form of a verb is called the infinitive. In English, you can spot infinitives
because they usually have the word “to” in front of them:
to swim to read to write

Infinitives in Spanish, however, don’t have a separate word like “to” in front of them.
Spanish infinitives are only one word, and always end in –ar, -er, or –ir.

nadar leer escribir

Intro to New Material: Key Point THREE

Respond to the question ¿Que vas a hacer? using the verb
IR and the construction IR + a + infinitive
We use the question ¿Qué vas a hacer? (What are you going to do?) to ask what someone
will do in the future. You can substitute vas, for voy, va, vamos or van to ask what others
are going to do.

(What am I going to do?) (What is (s)he going to (What are we going to (What are they going to
do?) do?) do?)

Just as you use “going” + infinitive in English to say what you are going to do in the
future (“I am going to run tomorrow”), in Spanish you use the construction:
ir + a + infinitive

complete the blanks below.
