The colour of text used on the

front page often help certain

aspects of the main image
stand out , in this case , the
red of Cheryl Coles lips is
brought out by the red of the
logo and cover lines.

The cover name of the artist
that is the main feature in the
magazine is always clearly
stated as a cover line. This is
used to attract the target
audience so it will be more
noticeable than other cover
lines.
There are distinctive fonts used in
every issue of the magazine.
Other articles in the
magazine are also
advertised in cover lines but
do not stand out like the
main article. In this case,
the smaller features of the
magazine are printed in
grey and tend to blend into
the background or are
much smaller.
The Q magazine tends to place cover lines and puffs all around the main image,
whereas other magazines tend to only place them on the left. This shows the
target audience that the magazine is FULL of information that they would be
interested in and therefore they would pay more because the magazine consists
of more. It also attracts more attention to the main image as it is the only part of
the magazine that is not covered in text.
The features on this front page (the main
image, puffs, cover lines, masthead etc.) are all
specifically structured. Although the cover is
busy, it is still organized. This connotes the
professionalism and formality of the magazine.
This also influences who the target audience
is. The fact that the layout and text is formal,
implies that the target audience is mature.
Although Q magazine is formal, it does
represent Cheryl Cole as rebellious and
intimidating.
The way in which Cheryl Cole
has been represented in this
image also has a large influence
on the target audience. She
appears confident, sexy etc.
which is what her fans love
about her and therefore
persuades them to purchase this
medium.
The strap line is another
convention that is commonly seen
in the music magazine genre. It
always relates to the magazine
genre or masthead and when
packed on the shelf, sticks out
from behind to promote the
magazine to which it belongs.
The unique selling point of this
magazine would be that it has
articles and interviews with only the
biggest and best music artists.
Instead of focusing on one genre of
artists, it focuses on the success rate
of artists. This causes the target
audience to grow tremendously.
A barcode has been presented
on the cover of this magazine
as usual but is placed in a
different area on the page. It is
usually placed in one of the
bottom corners.
