TOOLS REQUIRED:
Tape measure
Carpenters pencil
Level
Packers
Chalk/String line
Sealant gun
Drill and bits
Putty knife & sponge
Tungsten tipped saw & mitre box or
Drop Saw
Before ftting our decorative lightweight mouldings, make sure the surface onto which you want to fx the
mouldings is fat and level. In the case of surface not being level, simply use suitable packers at low and
hollow points to level out the substrate. It is advisable when fxing, not to put any unnecessary stress on the
mouldings, otherwise cracking can occur with seasonal weather changes and movement in construction.
In cutting mouldings to the required lengths, use a tungsten tipped hand saw and mitre box or a drop saw.
Remember to check your angles and measure twice and cut once. Large lightweight mouldings which have a
polystyrene core must be sealed on cut ends with polyurethane sealant. (Contact our ofce for technical advice
on recommended sealants and adhesives).
Prior to installation, run a string/chalk line at the lower edge where the moulding will be fxed. Install temporary
anchors along string line to substrate, and then use these to rest the moulding into position. It is important
to pre-drill and countersink all mouldings prior to installing. Use a drill bit to suit the size of permanent nylon
anchors and countersink them at least 3mm below the mouldings surface. Fixings should be installed at
60mm of each end, then stagger fxings from each side at approximately 600mm centres. Mouldings which
have a polystyrene core; e.g. Parapets, are fxed in the same way except that nylon anchors are to also be fxed
at the top of the moulding on a 45 degree angle. (Refer to attached drawings for additional fxing details)

Apply a minimum 8mm bead of polyurethane sealant down the entire rear of the moulding. Rest moulding
on to temporary anchors and into position. Drill through the pre-drilled moulding and into substrate. Insert
nylon anchors through the moulding and into the substrate and tap home. Take care not to stress or damage
the moulding.
Using a putty knife apply patching putty to fll all anchor-fxing cavity, then rub over the patched area with a
sponge to active the same surface texture as the moulding.
When moulding is fnally in position, both side edges must be sealed between moulding and substrate with a
polyurethane sealant making sure there are no gaps. Acrylic/water based sealants are not to be used.
Our decorative lightweight mouldings come in 2.4m and 3.0m lengths and can be ftted together where longer
lengths are required. Joins in the mouldings are to have a 5mm straight cut gap. Apply polyurethane sealant to
the entire face of both ends to be joined, leaving a 5mm straight line join and a 2mm gap on mitre joins.
Clean surface with a damp cloth for a fne visible pencil line join. Cracking at join may sometimes occur due to
building movement or a combination of curing/settling of moulding. In this case polyurethane sealant can be
re-applied at a later date. When the moulding intersects an expansion joint in the substrate, the same size
expansion gap must be carried through the mould. Leave gaps open and free of sealant where expansion
joints are, making sure mould is sealed where polystyrene core is visible. DO NOT run the mould over
expansion joints.
To complete the installation of our decorative lightweight mouldings, the entire surface of the mould is to be
coated with an acrylic UV protection primer to act as a readiness for the fnal coat of paint. Recommended paint
is a Dulux Weather shield paint or equivalent. To keep the aesthetic appeal of the mouldings its important not
to overcoat with a textured fnish, as this will spoil the sharp, clean and straight lines of our decorative
lightweight mouldings.
Application is best completed by a highly-skilled contractor experienced in applying Archiclads products.
Contact details of contractors familiar with our range of products can be provided on request by our friendly
staf. It is also important that you inspect previous jobs by an applicator prior to contracting that applicator.
Your choice of applicator should be based on the quality of previous work.
SAFETY:
Use glasses, gloves and suitable dust mask when working with our decorative lightweight
mouldings. Also hearing protection is recommended when using power tools.
WARRANTY:
A product only warranty can be provided for projects where the complete Archiclad system has been used in
strict accordance with specifcations. A separate warranty covering workmanship is to be provided on request
by and on behalf of the applicator responsible for completing the works.
