We try to keep our dogs on their canine diets
but sometimes we just cant resist slipping
them an occasional human morsel. If youd
like to reward your pet with a table scrap,
make sure that you choose people foods that
are safe for canine tummies.
Here are a few dog-approved people foods:
1. Peanut butter. A favorite treat of many
canines. Not only is it a good source of protein, but it also contains heart healthy fats,
vitamin B, niacin, and vitamin E. Stuff peanut butter into a Kong to keep your dog busy for
hours. Choose raw, unsalted peanut butter.
2. Cooked chicken. Can be slipped into the bowl along with your dogs regular food to add
a spice and extra protein to its diet. This also makes a good meal replacement if youre in a
pinch and out of dog food.
3. Cheese. A great treat for a dog as long as she isnt lactose intolerant, which a small
percentage are. Make sure to monitor your dogs reaction. Opt for low or reduced fat
varieties and dont overfeed, as many cheeses can be high in fat. Cottage cheese is
typically a good choice.
4. Baby carrots. Good for a dogs teeth, carrots are low calorie and high in fiber and beta
carotene/vitamin A.
5. Yogurt. High in calcium and protein. But make sure to only choose yogurts that do not
contain artificial sweeteners or added sugars. Yogurts with active bacteria can act as a
probiotic and are good for your dogs digestive system.
6. Salmon. A good source of omega 3 fatty acids, which are responsible for keeping your
dogs coat healthy and shiny, as well as supporting your dogs immune system. Feed your
dog cooked salmon, add salmon oil to her food bowl, or slip him some of your unwanted
fish skins.
7. Pumpkin. Good source of fiber as well as beta-carotene/vitamin A. It can help keep the
GI tract moving and can aid with digestive issues.
8. Eggs. Scrambling up an egg for your pup is a great way to give her diet a protein boost.
Eggs are also a source of easily digestible riboflavin and selenium, making them a healthy
snack.
9. Green Beans.Make a great treat for your dog since they are filling and low in calories.
Select beans that have no added salt.
10. Apple Slices. Help to clean residue off a dogs teeth, which helps to freshen her breath.
Apples are a good source of fiber as well as vitamin A and C. Make sure to take out the
seeds and the core before feeding to your dog, as these can be choking hazards.
11. Oatmeal. A great source of soluble fiber, which can be especially beneficial to senior
dogs with bowel irregularity issues. It is also a great alternate grain for dogs allergic to
wheat. Make sure to cook oatmeal before serving it to your dog. Do not add any sugar or
flavor additives.

Harmful Foods for Dogs Puppy Feeding Guidelines Dog Nutrition: A to Z
These are just a few of the human foods that you can toss your dogs way. Remember to try
them in small amounts. If your dog experiences any sort of reaction, immediately consult a
veterinarian. Before giving your dog any people food, do your research to make sure its
safe. Never feed your dog toxic human items such as: chocolate, onions, grapes, raisins,
yeast dough, artificial sweeteners, macadamia nuts, avocadoes, alcohol, or coffee. Consult
your veterinarian with any questions on what is safe and what is harmful.

My dog had bladder stones. The vet is saying he can't have anymore treats : (
Does anyone know what natural treats I can give him? She says NO TREATS but there has to be something he
is allowed to eat other than dog food. Please help.
The modern canine diet has truly evolved from their ancestors. Dogs have developed similar nutrient
requirements as their owners, however they are suffering from several diseases that where limited to humans.
My dog loves pizza, maybe not a good idea for a healthy pet.
Are these okay for a 3 month old puppy?
I live in the Pacific Northwest and recently heard on the news that dogs can't eat salmon. Dogs sometimes eat

salmon that are in creeks around here, and the article said it can even kill a dog if they eat too much salmon. Is
that true?
Too much of anything (other than regular food) is going to be bad for any living thing. it's also probably
because the salmon isn't cooked. Dogs are domestic animals and thus need cooked meat

I have another question. Would you consider coming to Atlanta to work with our rescue group with difficult dog
cases? Right now we have one of the Alabama Ditch Dogs who has serious dog on dog aggression issues we

cope with behavior problems in dogs like this - we encounter them so very often in our work. I am with Angels

I read in an AKC article that hibiscus were very poisonous to dogs, but our mini schnauzer loves them so much,
and we have so many, that he will stand up on his hind legs to reach a flower high on the bush, then bite it off in
one bite and eat it. He's never shown any signs of being sick.
I have a question about feeding a dog eggs that is allergic to chicken, would her allergy to chicken also include
cooked eggs, does anybody know ?
I would assume so, to be safe. It *does* work the other way (those who are allergic to eggs are also
allergic to chicken) so although that's not 100% proof it works both ways, I wouldn't chance it!

Hmmm. Does the following sound good for your dog? Pork, mechanically separated turkey, water, salt,
contains 2% or less of corn syrup, natural flavorings, dextrose, sugar, sodium lactate, sodium
phosphates, beef, sodium erythorbate, sodium diacetate, oleoresin paprika, sodium nitrite. Source:

YUCK! Why not just give your dog some plain old beef or chicken? BTW, some hot dogs contain onion
powder. All forms of onion are bad for your dog. Go to ASPCA website for more info.

Can you treat skin problems on dogs with olive oil or white vinegar? Can skin problems be dust or mold related?
Nothing works on my dog, doing chicken rice with hot distilled water. Blue buffalo kibble, no treats. Two rounds of
antibiotics for rounds of diarreah, i am thinking she is doing better now. No answers so I am searching for my
own. She has had skin issues for approx. 8 years now.
My toy poodle has dry skin. My vet suggested a little olive oil mixed with his food . He has stopped
scratching so much and his skin no longer flakes. I usually mix a little water and olive oil in his dry food.
Linn, What kind of dog do you have ? Many dogs have allergies that give them skin problems. I have a
Bichon and she is allergic to Chicken and grains so she gets next ot nothing that has grains or chicken
in it which makes it difficult and expensive to feed her.
Hi. I have a 10 year old chihuahua and she has had some issues with dry skin.... When I give her a
bath I put a few drops of vitamin e oil in the water and then after she gets out I rub a little bit on my
hands and kind of just rub it on her fur and her tummy... Works like a charm. But by the time she needs
another bath she starts to get itchy again. But its temporary relief for your doggie. Hope this helps. (:

I heard dogs can't eat chocolate my friend about to give them chocolate, >pet dental problem can cause also. I
told her not to feed them because i heard about it, so i do a research also and glad found this very informative
post, so basically it's not only chocolate that you can't feed them there's many more so as a pet lover i must be
aware of this also.
It's not dental problems that is the issue with chocolate - there's something in chocolate that is toxic to
dogs (THEOBROMINE). Some dogs react worse to it than others and some types of chocolate have
more theobromine in it, which is why some people don't believe it's a problem - because their dogs
have never gotten sick - but they could, if they ate too much, or ate a different kind of chocolate.
I live on an island in the Philippines and my dogs eat rice, fish and vegetables every day for lunch and dinner.
(All dogs here on the islands eat rice and fish.) They especially love the crunchiness of the fish head. Fish heads
are a good source of calcium. They particularly like pumpkin, but also carrots and tomatoes. They also love eggs
and pasta - this is their daily breakfast.
Rice is not bad for dogs. My 3 dogs are perfect;y healthy and they have never seen vet in their life. There is no
vet on the island anyway.
Right now I have three puppies as well and they will start eating solid food soon. Their first solid meal will be rice
and fish):
What is the average life span of your pets? I bet it is better than the 9yrs for dogs who eat commercial
product made by the dog food industry.

i am from the philippines, currently residing in the us. you cannot give them shrimp and noodles. my
dog died, but i suspect from the shrimp! i know plain white rice is fine. my shih tzu loves it! i know (back
in PI) we fed our dogs whatever we had on our table (because who has extra money to buy
commercial dog food anyway?) but i do not know that i would feed them all that pasta (with the
spaghetti sauce or any kind of sauce (the onions are bad))...plain pasta is fine.
