Head Nurse

The Head Nurse is the person in charge of something; a director or a leader that
guides in developing objectives and renders quality care to the patient and encourages the
staff to share in the process.

OBJECTIVES

General Objective:

As a student nurse; she will be able to develop the potential of being a leader by
improving her skills in leadership and serve as a model to her subordinates and to ensure that
her patients receives care which is complete and satisfying in every aspect.

Specific Objectives:

As a student head nurse, she will be able to:

1. Apply principles on head nursing to effectively lead her subordinates.

2. To stimulate her staff or subordinate to see possibilities for improvement in patient care.

3. Manage the flow of activities done by her subordinate for improvement and help them
attain their goal in giving quality care that is needed by their patient.

4. To develop her skills in decision-making and other qualities needed to be a good nurse.

5. To evaluate and appreciate work of subordinates through the use of performance


checklist.

Subordinates

General Objective:

As a nursing student, he/she will improve more on her knowledge, attitudes and skills
through working in the training are with fellow students and recognize the value of having a
director.

Specific Objectives

As a student nurse, he/she will:

1. Be able to gather data and use the nursing process in meeting the needs of the
patient.

2. Develop her sense of responsibility and accountability on every action she


makes.
3. Be able to develop good attitude towards her work.

4. Be able to work harmoniously with her fellow students.

5. Learn new kills and apply them in the future.

Responsibility of Head Nurse

The Head Nurse is immediately responsible for providing good nursing for the patients on her
division.

1. They have the responsibility to orient her staff about the systems of service done in
her division.

2. Must help the staff members evaluate own performance.

3. Has the responsibility to know the needs of patients and qualifications of her staff to meet
their needs.

4. Has the responsibility to teach her staff and keep before them the standard of quality
care.

5. Suggest in which risks, errors or problems may be reduced.

6. Inform her staff of the likely cause of errors and defects and preventive measures
necessary.

7. To help her staff members learn to deal effectively with patient’s questions, problems and
needs.

CRITERIA FOR GRADING


Decorum

• 1 point will be deducted to the 5% of every violation.

Violations could be:

1. Incomplete uniform
2. Incomplete paraphernalias

Attendance

• 1 point will be deducted to the 10% for late students.


• If a student has been late for 3 days, 4 points will be deducted.
• For every absent, 5 points will be deducted.

Requirements

• For late requirements, it will be automatically given a grade of 70% or depending on


the quality of work.
