men with it, and assembled all the eole again, and said to them#
%ehold, 5e ha4e seen all the wonders whi*h 9od hath shewed us unto
this da5, and lo, when we sought out all that had subtill5 de4ised e4il
against the /ord and against Israel, 9od hath re4ealed them
a**ording to their wor<s, and now *ursed be e4er5 man that de4iseth
to do the li<e among 5ou, brethren. And all the eole answered
Amen, Amen. And when he had so said, he burned all the men with
2re, and all that was found with them, sa4ing the re*ious stones.
!. And after that Cene1 desired to ro4e whether the stones *ould be
burned with 2re, and *ast them into the 2re. And it was so, that when
the5 fell therein, forthwith the 2re was 8uen*hed. And Cene1 too< iron
to brea< them, and when the sword tou*hed them the iron thereof
was melted- and thereafter he would at the least blot out the boo<s
with water- but it *ame to ass that the water when it fell uon them
was *ongealed. And when he saw that, he said# %lessed be 9od who
hath done so great wonders for the *hildren of men, and made Adam

7. And when he had so said, he too< the boo<s and the stones and
laid them on the to of the mount 1 b5 the new altar as the /ord had
*ommanded him, and too< a ea*eNo>ering and burntNo>erings, and

eole together. 8. And 9od did that night as he sa<e unto Cene1,
for he *ommanded a *loud, and it went and too< dew from the i*e of
aradise and shed it uon the boo<s and blotted them out. And after
that an angel *ame and burned them u, and another angel too< the
re*ious stones and *ast them into the heart of the sea, and he
*harged the deth of the sea, and it swallowed them u. And another
angel went and brought twel4e stones and laid them hard b5 the
la*e when*e he had ta<en those se4en. And he gra4ed thereon the
names of the twel4e tribes.
.. And Cene1 arose on the morrow and found those twel4e stones on

7. And Cene1 went down alone, and before he went down he ra5ed,

8. And he set forth after he had ra5ed, and heard the multitude of
the Amorites sa5ing# /et us arise and 2ght against Israel# for we <now
that our hol5 N5mhs are there among them and will deli4er them
into our hands. .. And Cene1 arose, for the sirit of the /ord *lothed
him as a garment, and he drew his sword, and when the light of it
shone uon the Amorites li<e shar lightning, the5 saw it, and said# Is

10. And it *ame to ass when Cene1 heard their words, he was
*lothed with the sirit of might and *hanged into another man, and
went down into the *am of the Amorites and began to smite them.
And the /ord sent before his fa*e the angel Ingethel 6or 9ethel7, who
is set o4er the hidden things, and wor<eth unseen, 6and another7
angel of might heling with him# and Ingethel smote the Amorites
with blindness, so that e4er5 man that saw his neighbour *ounted

multitude, he would ha4e loosened his hand from his sword, for the
handle of the sword *la4e, 1 that it *ould not be loosed, and his right
hand had ta<en into it the strength of the sword.
Then the5 that were left of the Amorites Ced into the mountains- but
Cene1 sought how he might loose his hand# and he loo<ed with his

said to him# I <now that the Amorites are *unning# now therefore shew
me how I ma5 loose m5 hand from this sword, and I will let thee go.
And the Amorite said# 9o and ta<e a man of the Debrews and <ill him,
and while his blood is 5et warm hold thine hand beneath and re*ei4e
his blood, so shall thine hand be loosed. And 6&ene1 said# As the /ord

while his blood was 5et warm, he held his hand beneath and re*ei4ed
it therein, and it was loosed.
12. And Cene1 dearted and ut o> his garments, and *ast himself
into the ri4er and washed, and *ame u again and *hanged his
garments, and returned to his 5oung men. Now the /ord *ast uon
them a hea45 slee in the night, and the5 slet and <new not an5

out of slee- and the5 loo<ed Auon himB with their e5es and saw, and
behold, the 2eld was full of dead bodies# and the5 were astonished in
their mind, and loo<ed e4er5 man on his neighbour. And Cene1 said
unto them# Lh5 mar4el 5eM Are the wa5s of the /ord as the wa5 of

men in rison# %ring forth those men that we ma5 hear their words.
And when he had brought them forth, Cene1 said to them# Tell me,

said# Lh5 as<est thou usM Lh5 as<est thou usM Now therefore

to be burned with 2re, and *ast their ashes into the la*e where the5

the Coor thereof was as a sider sinneth, in the fashion of a shield.
And when the foundation was laid, I beheld, and from that sring
