Treatment: Short Film Implosion

Product:
We aim to produce a short film which will last approximately 5 minutes, based
around the genre of Drama called Implosion. Our production company aims to
market our production at the internet the reason being is that many teenagers use
the internet , particularly social networking sites on a daily basis such as Facebook,
Instagram, Twitter or YouTube thus gaining a lot of views, we also aim to market our
production at cinemas, televisions and also magazines. Magazines are another thing
that teenagers and those in their twenties tend to read regularly in order to for
example keep up with the weekly gossip. As teenagers and those in their twenties
are our main target audience, it is important that as a group, we successfully aim
out production at them and as said before, twitter may be a great way to publicise
and expose this as many teenagers use this social networking site on a daily basis,
publishing this on twitter may mean that we can successfully reach our target
audience.
Genre:
As a group we had decided with the genre drama. We are very aware of the fact
that it will be a challenge; despite this we are prepared to take on this challenge.
We believe that a drama sparks interest in many different age groups and also, it
helps for us to know that there is to be a clear beginning, middle (plot) and an
ending, either a sad ending (very unlikely) or a happy ending which end up being
resolbed stereotypically. Despite the fact that it may not have such aspects that a
horror may have, such as playing on the audiences emotions, we feel that our
target audience will still be kept interested and perhaps somehow attached to
these characters that gradually grow throughout the production and also
empathise with the as dramas tend to do that.
Target Audience:
Our target audience is 12-30 both males and females; however it will be suitable for
almost any age group. The socio-economic groups we will target are the working
class and the middle class as they will either have no disposable income or they will
be working at a fairly well-paid job clearly we have a target audience which is
extremely varied. As a group, we aim to receive an optimistic response from our
target audience as well as any other viewers.
Context:
Our product should gain popularity through the means of mediums we will use to
create awareness of it; the marketing we hope to use i.e. the internet Twitter,
YouTube, search engines such as Google, Facebook, etc.; this is a very cheap way
of getting our product across as we barely have any disposable income let alone
having to fund for an entire project, we have decided to use the cheapest form of
product awareness. The more exposure it has, the more our target audience will
know of it and as will others. Also, the internet is easily accessible to all. It will also
mean we can collate more feedback as it will be well known. Also we may use
television channels in which are fairly popular i.e. Film4, Channel 4 etc. Furthermore,
we could use our very own blog to promote our final piece as many use the blog site
known as Blogger
Media Languages:
We aim to follow many of the conventions of a drama, such as, as mentioned
before, empathy, monologues (in order to ensure the audience understand exactly
what the character is feeling and show further sympathy). This is because we believe
having a simple storyline, simplifies not only the understanding from the audiences
view, but also, it allows the cameraman and the director myself to have a clear
and easy to visualise image in my head of how I would like the product to be
created. The codes and conventions may be supported by the lighting, i.e. bright
when necessary and full of colour when necessary, monologues, narration,tension,
etc. Furthermore, it is important that we am to appreciate extreme close up shots
when filming as it enhances and emphasises the characters emotions and allows
the audience to fully understand their emotions.
Institutions:
The name of our production company is Infinity-Scope Studios, a very light-hearted
and unique name thus (hopefully) an easy to remember name as it is catchy. It will
be distributed across many types of mediums such as the internet, magazines, the
radio, television, etc. as it will allow us to reach a large target audience, thus gaining
popularity.
Representation:
We believe that the audience must be able to relate and potentially connect with
both our characters, considering struggle may be an everyday concept to many, to
some, it is not. Everyone has experience some form of struggle whether it be due to
money or even school struggle - everyone faces this (arguably) from a day-to-day
basis. Statistic show that many people genuinely enjoy dramas as they feel they
have the chance to relate to someone - a film character, but nevertheless,
someone. Our main character is to be arguably easy to relate to.
