PLASTIC ELEVATOR BUCKETS

-4-

This photo indicates the clean superior discharge of Dura-Buket plastic buckets. Pictured
is a 9 x 6 plastic Dura-Buket running on a 30 head pulley at 62 RPMs for a belt speed
of 487 FPM. This is an LP style bucket spaced on 4-3/8 centers.

STYLE SS

STYLE LP

Extensive testing has proven that the SS buckets

can be placed on closer cup centers than what has
been recognized in the industry. The SS cups are
uniquely designed at a 45 angle, allowing better
cup fill and discharge.

The LP cup has been modified on the back wall, thus

reducing the cup depth. The main advantage of
Dura-Buket LP bucket is that it can increase capacities
up to 50% in existing elevator legs. This modification
does not change the discharge characteristic associated with the original Dura-Buket SS bucket.

The above formula will result in the theoretical horsepower

necessary. It is recommended that an additional 10% be
added for drive losses and up to 15% for elevator friction
and cup digging through the boot. To overcome choked
conditions, additional horsepower is required.
How To Calculate Belt Speed
Head Pulley Diameter in Inches x
Head Pulley RPM x .262 =
Feet Per Minute (FPM)
The cup projections used with the appropriate head pulley
diameters are common engineering practices. The table of
speeds is for reference only and does not mean that the
buckets will discharge perfectly running at all speeds in this
range. Minor variations are permissible.

HOW TO ESTIMATE THE CAPACITY OF AN ELEVATOR

Use Our Table for Contents of Elevator Cups
To find the capacity of any elevator, it is necessary to ascertain the contents of the cup in cubic inches, the spacing of the cup on the belt and
the speed of the belt in feet per minute. To do this, multiply the contents of the cup by the number of cups per foot. If the cups are spaced
on 6 centers, for example, you would multiple the cubic inch capacity times 2. If on 8 centers, you would multiply the cubic capacity by
1.5; if on 10 centers, by 1.2, and on 12 centers, by 1. The results will give you the contents in cubic inches of every running foot of belt.
Refer to the chart for other spacing multipliers.
This result is then multiplied by the belt speed which will give the cubic inches discharged per minute. The result multiplied by 60 gives a
discharge in cubic inches per hour. Divide the results by 2,150 which is the contents in cubic inches in one bushel and you have the capacity
in bushels per hour. Divide by 1,728 for contents in cubic feet. To find the tons per hour elevated, you must know the weight of the material
elevated per cubic foot.

MEASURE THE WIDTH, PROJECTION AND DEPTH OF A BUCKET

A. How To Measure:
For nominal dimensions, lay the bucket
on its back. The
width of the bucket is
measured at the back
mounting surface.

C. Depth is
measured for
the overall side
profile
dimension.

B. Projection is
measured
vertically to the lip,
as it would project
from the belt or
chain.

Depth=6

Projection=6

Width=11

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
We recommend that the following instructions be followed to
assure you long lasting services.

Belt Application
1. Attach bucket to the belt with 1/4, 5/16 or 3/8 elevator bolts.
Stainless steel or plated bolts are recommended for corrosive
materials.
2. Use a leather washer between the nut and the bucket when
handling corrosive materials to facilitate the removal of rusty
elevator bolts. On other materials a leather washer is not
necessary.

BOLT
BELT
FLAT OR FENDER
WASHER

3. On non-corrosive materials, place a flat steel washer inside the

bucket (as large O.D. as possible). Follow with spring lock
washer and then either a hex or square nut.

NUT

LOCK WASHER

RECOMMENDED BUCKET INSTALLATION

4. Use power tool and tighten the elevator bolts until snug, then
use a wrench for the last two or three turns. Excessive pressure
is not necessary and should be avoided.
5. When removing the bolts from the elevator bucket, do not use a
cutting torch. Dura-Buket polyethylene buckets will become
soft at temperatures over 225 F.

DIGGER BUCKETS
USES
Used to extend the life of any plastic
bucket or with any materials that pack
or cake tightly in the boot section.

PURPOSE
A digger bucket clears the path through
the elevator boot section and eases the
strain on the following plastic buckets.
Digger buckets are mounted every
tenth to every fifth between the plastic
buckets and are custom-manufactured
to project 1/4 to 1/2 further than the
plastic buckets.

MAXI-SPLICE BELT FASTENING DEVICE

-15-

*Patent No. 4,540,389

SPLICES
MAXI-SPLICE AB

MAXI-SPLICE CI

Ferrous metal of moderately high tensile strength

Usable on belts of up to 600 PIW tensile
Silver color

Non-ferrous metal of very high tensile strength

Usable on belts up to 1200 PIW tensile
Non-sparking, non-corroding and non-rusting
Bronze color

DESCRIPTION
The Maxi-Splice is a mechanical clamping device with a simple threepiece construction. The patented design is for use on PVC and rubber
belting.
It accommodates belts of all thicknesses.
Standard splice bolts will accommodate up to 1/2 thick belting. Longer
bolts are available for thicker belts..
Each splice set accommodates two inches of belt width.
It is tested and approved by leading manufacturers of PVC and rubber
belting.

INSTALLATION
1. First ensure the belt ends are square and even. If using the splice
template tape, apply the tape to mark the punching. Be sure to apply
the tape squarely on the belt ends; then proceed to Step 4. If you are
not using the tape, go to Step 2.
2. Draw a line approximately 4-1/4 from the belt end to use as the center
line for hole punching. Proper installation for even width belts will
begin just inside the belt edge. Odd belt widths require installation 1/2
from the belt edge.
3. Use the Maxi-Splice as a template to mark the hole locations for
punching. After marking the first hole, move over 2 and mark each
consecutive hole.
4. Punch both belt ends for 1/2 diameter bolts.
5. The two end plates and center plate are used for firm belt gripping.
The end plates have two gripping areas the slotted gripping area is
mounted toward the face of the belt and is followed by a series of
gripping teeth. These teeth are always mounted toward the tail of the
belt. The center plate is symmetrical and cannot be improperly
installed.
6. IMPORTANT: We have supplied a 1/2 diameter, 4 long Grade 5 bolt
and nylon locking nut. The bolts must be torqued for Maxi-Splice to
effectively clamp. The torque requirement is 75 foot pounds for belts
up to and including 600 PIW belts greater than 600 PIW tensile require
100 foot pounds of torque.
7. Run the belt for thirty minutes; stop the leg and re-torque the bolts.
