GETTING READY FOR A NEW SHELTER SEASON In the heat of the summer, its easy to forget how cold the winter can be. This year we are opening the winter shelter a week earlier on November 8, 2014 and hope to keep it open through April 15, 2015. This will be our 13 th consecutive year open. Last year we served 224 unduplicated homeless individuals for a total of 6,745 shelter beds provided. There were also more than 7,000 hot and nutritious meals provided with the help of local individuals, charities, and churches. We Care and Turlock Gospel Mission will collaborate nightly so that men with families who want to attend dinner and worship services with their families are able to do so and still retain their shelter bed. Every Wednesday there are also Community Participation Meetings held at the shelter facilitated by members of the homeless population. These meetings give them a venue for expressing their ideas in an acceptable manner and seeking workable solutions to issues that impact them and the larger community. All qualified shelter residents are referred to our transitional and supportive housing programs. August 2014 BOARD OF DIRECTORS
