EXERCISE NUMBER FIVE
on the date ................ ............................
the first period as set forth in. the book "L iber 777
(The Cathedral of the Soul) for your ptirt of the world,
(foreign members may conduct experiment exactly four
weeks later also) we ask you to participate in this per
sonal contact exercise. These particular instructions are
being sent only to you and other students of your class.
The object of these exercises, which you will receive quite
regularly, is to establish a closer personal association be
tween you, your sanctum, and the teachers. Masters, at
the Supreme Temple here in San J ose. I n addition, it
affords you the opportunity of personally experiencing
the results of the application of these laws and principles
which you have been studying.
I f you have carefully read and understood your lessons
preceding this exercise, and will follow the instructions
set forth here, you will be pleased at the results of this
personal home exercise. These exercises have been insti
tuted as a new, additional feature of the studies for
your benefit.

The advantages of this particular experiment to be con
ducted are numerous. There will be the feature of the
psychic contact with the officers of the Grand Lodge con
ducting this experimentthe proof of certain principles
pertaining to the functioning of the mind, the opportunity
to use a mystic law in a practical way for the solution
of a problem. Y ou have heard the phrase. In common
vernacular, "cool off before making your decision, or
"wait until you have had mature judgment. Behind these
phrases, in most instances said without an appreciation of
their meaning, lie stupendous mystical principles such
as have been explained in your lessons. L et us see how
this is true.
We have found from our lessons that will is the ob
jective decision to do something, after objective reasoning.
A problem has arisen, let us say: You reason ahead as
to the outcome, or backward as to the cause. This is
called inductive, or deductive reasoning, depending upon
the method you use, or a combination of both forms. You
come to a decision, and then you will yourself to act
one way or another, but you may be advised to wait a
while before finally acting. Why? I f your objective mind
and its syllogistical reasoning were infallible, and your
decision were right, why wait to act? Reasoning is not
dependent upon the element of time for its accuracy.
True, if one waits a day later, his decision might alter
because of different processes of objective reasoning, and
if he waits still longer another decision might be arrived
at; yet any or all decisions might be erroneous, as far as
satisfactory results are concerned.
I f one waits before acting, not so as to further reason
objectively, but to permit the I nfinite I ntelligence, the
Wisdom of the Soul, to aid him in making a decision, his
decision will be right. The decision of the soul may not be
of a logical nature: it may be contrary to your reasoning,
but it is dependable and infallible. This inner intelligence
may direct you in a manner that is commonly termed
"a hunch, an inspiration, the small voice within.
So for this experiment again seat yourself comfortably
where you can be quiet, and hold in mind some out
standing problem you have, whatever it may be. Think
of it and all its details for four minutes, then relax, cast
it out of your consciousness, and wait for the inspiration,
the inner urge informing you to act in a certain manner
for the solution of it. Then follow that hunch, inspiration,
or whatever you wish to term it, regardless of how
contrary it may be to your previous reasoning and de
cision. Try this experiment for a period of about ten
minutes, and kindly let us know of the results of the
experiment as it pertained to your problem.
