Scriptures that define the New Moon

By Yosiah Yedidiah

(Psa 81:3 TS98) Blow the ram’s horn at the time of the New Moon, At the full moon,
on our festival day.

(Psa 81:3 KJV) Blow upH8628 the trumpetH7782 in the new moon,H2320 in the time
appointed,H3677 on our solemn feastH2282 day.H3117

H2320
‫חדש‬
chôdesh
kho'-desh
From H2318; the new moon; by implication a month: - month (-ly), new moon.

H2318
‫חדש‬
châdash
khaw-dash'
A primitive root; to be new; causatively to rebuild: - renew, repair.

H3677
‫כסא‬ ‫כסה‬
kese' keseh
keh'-seh, keh'-seh
Apparently from H3680; properly fulness or the full moon, that is, its festival: - (time)
appointed.

H3680
‫כסה‬
kâsâh
kaw-saw'
A primitive root; properly to plump, that is, fill up hollows; by implication to cover (for
clothing or secrecy): - clad self, close, clothe, conceal, cover (self), (flee to) hide,
overwhelm. Compare H3780.

Conclusions for Tehillim (Psalms) 81:3

1. The Hebrew word Chodesh – H2320 translated as “new moon” and sometimes
“month” means the new moon, it is where we get the English word – “Month”
as Strong implicates, a month: - month (-ly). According to Enoch the ancient
Hebrew prophet, the scriptural lunar year has 12 or occasionally, 13 Moons
(months), and 354 days. If one studies history you will find all ancient
civilizations had a lunar based “month”. This is because a moon cycle is 29.5 days
scientifically and 29 or 30 day’s scripturally.
2. The Hebrew word Châdash - H2318 the primitive root of Chodesh is defined as;
to be new; causatively to rebuild: - renew, repair. This suggests a cycle when we
speak of the moon which obviously never ceases to exist with the exception of its
dark phase for 2-4 days each cycle. This phase is indeed still part of its cycle for it
begins as full, and then wanes to dark, then waxes back to full; hence the terms
rebuild, renew, and repair!
3. The Hebrew word keseh - H3677 is defined, properly fulness or the full moon,
that is, its festival: - (time) appointed. This we see when we compare the Hebrew
word Moedim - H4150, is not the word translated as “appointed time” or “Feasts”
especially at Wayyiqra (Leviticus) 23, which not only governs the “Feasts” of
YaHWaH, but also uses Moedim - H4150 exclusively when referring to them. So
then not only does Tehillim (Psalms) 81:3, when translated properly refer solely
to the “New Moon feast” it also defines the “New Moon” as the “Full Moon”!

Still need more proof?!! I don’t blame you! According to The Torah, in order that
anything is established as “Fact” we need at least two witnesses. Debarim
(Deuteronomy) 19:15 Lets move to our next scripture for our second witness!

(Pro 7:20 TS98) “He took a bag of silver with him; He comes home on the day of the
new moon.”
(Pro 7:20 DRB) He took with him a bag of money: he will return home the day of the
full moon.
(Pro 7:20 KJV) He hath takenH3947 a bagH6872 of moneyH3701 withH3027 him, and will comeH935
homeH1004 at the dayH3117 appointed.H3677

Conclusions for Mishle (Proverbs) 7:20

1. Here we see the Scriptures 98 version translates the Hebrew word keseh -
H3677 as “New Moon”. The 1899 Douay Rheims version translates it as “Full
Moon”. Based on our conclusions item #3, for the verse Tehillim (Psalms) 81:3
above, we learned it is more properly translated and understood as both! I
therefore have properly translated both verses as follows:

(Psa 81:3) Blow the ram’s horn at the time of the Full New Moon, At our festival day on
the full new moon.

(Pro 7:20 TS98) “He took a bag of silver with him; He comes home on the day of the full
new moon.”

Please keep in mind, had we always understood the “New Moon” to be the “Full Moon”
as did the Hebrews and many other ancient cultures, this would be unnecessary, the
term “New Moon” would be and as I have proven, is in fact synonymous, or one and
the same!

Still not convinced?!! No problem, the Torah said “two or three witnesses”! We have
more! Let’s move on shall we?

Okay having previously established that we have two witnesses in today’s scripture, I
must now ask you, do you know why I use the term “today’s scripture”? I am
referring to the “canon” a collection of ancient writings deemed “Inspired” by the
Priests and Holy men of Judaism and Christianity. Both manmade religions, the first,
Judaism was formed by the Pharisees of the pre-Messianic period, it is continued by
the Rabbi’s of today, who according to the Encyclopedia Judaica, claim to be their
direct descendants. It was this religion that was sternly and constantly rebuked by
YaHWaHshua HaMashiach, the later, Christianity was not in any shape or form
existent during His time, clearly according to history, it formed later from mixed
pagan worship at the direction of the Roman emperor Constantine. For some
additional resources on this read “Come out of her my people” by C.J. Koster, “The
two Babylon’s” by Alexander Hislop, and “the six-pointed star”, research proves its
pagan by O.J. Graham to start!

Now I want you to ask yourself the following before we examine more Scriptures; Are
these not the very men or religions that are responsible for the mistranslated and
misinterpreted simple scriptures I previously demonstrated?!! Yes, they are!! So I ask
you why do you also trust these obviously uninspired men and religions to also
choose your collection of inspired writings?

Are you not lead by the Ruach HaKodesh, the set-apart Spirit who will guide you and
teach you in all things? Are you not able to study to show yourself approved having
rightly divided the word? What is to be rightly divided if it is not the truth from the
lie?!! If it were up to religion to provide you with nothing but the true word, there
would be nothing for you to rightly divide!!

Make no mistake the Torah teaches that the priest is to teach the people (Deu 17:8-13)
but when the priest’s words do not match the Torah, he is not a priest of YaHWaH!

This being said lets move on to our other witnesses, from books labeled by these
religions as “Apocrypha” meaning of an unknown author, like the book of “Hebrews”
for example! And what they call pseudepigrapha, which the “religious institutions of
today” define - Writings falsely ascribed to biblical times, and authors especially to
3rd century Judaic scripture. A quick definition of the word “pseudo” is noteworthy,
especially to those of us who having left their religious institutions and have been
deemed, pseudo-scholars! Pseudo, is today defined as false, but according to
Webster’s ninth new collegiate 1986 and older versions, it is defined as being
apparently rather than actually stated: SHAM, SPURIOUS <distinction between true
and ~ humanism – K.F. Reinhardt>. To which I respond, wonderful! We shall see
who is actual and who is merely stated and human on the last day!
Let’s start by looking at a verse found in the book of Sirach, a work preserved in the
Catholic Bibles that was once considered scripture, but later demoted to a pertinent
historical work!

(Sir 43:6-8) The moon, too, that marks the changing times, governing the seasons, their
lasting sign, by which we know the feast days and fixed dates, this light giver which
wanes in its course: as its name say’s, each month it renews itself; how wondrous is
this change!

Conclusions for Sirach 43:6-8

You may at first read this and think, how does this prove that the “New Moon” is the
“Full Moon”? To the untrained eye it doesn’t, but when one comes to realize that when
Sirach say’s the moon that marks the changing times, governing the seasons, their
lasting sign, by which we know the feast days and fixed dates, this light giver which
wanes in its course: as it’s name say’s, each month it renews itself, he is in
fact stating the following:

1. It wanes in its course, meaning decreases, therefore cannot be starting at anything

other than full!

2. As its name say’s confirms what we learned from its name in Hebrew – Chodesh,
meaning this is its cycle, each month it starts full, decreasing until once again, it renews
itself full!

3. Which we also learned and confirm when we simply use Tehillim (Psalm) 81:3, which
defined the “New Moon” as the “Full Moon” with the Hebrew word keseh, meaning
fullness, or full moon.

Now we have seen 2 scriptures from today’s canon or TaNaK (Torah – 5 books of Moses,
Nevi'im ("Prophets"), and Ketuvim ("Writings") and 1 scripture from the so called
“Apocrypha” that prove the New Moon is the Full Moon. Are you ready for the
clincher? The best writing of all that has ever crossed my path thus far is the so called
“pseudepigrapha” work of Enoch, it not only states the New Moon is the Full Moon,
but it has been deemed the greatest ancient astronomical work ever written on the
ancient Hebrew calendar, NASA even recognizes its accuracy and ponders how it was
known in its day! Let’s move to it and see what it will reveal.

“Enoch 78:12-15” During all the period during which the moon is growing in her
light, she is transferring it to herself when opposite to the sun during fourteen
days her light is accomplished in the heaven, and when she is illumined
throughout, her light is accomplished full in the heaven. And on the first day she
is called the new moon, for on that day the light rises upon her. She becomes
full moon exactly on the day when the sun sets in the west, and from the east
she rises at night, and the moon shines the whole night through till the sun rises
over against her and the moon is seen over against the sun. On the side whence
the light of the moon comes forth, there again she wanes till all the light vanishes
and all the days of the month are at an end, and her circumference is empty, void
of light.
Conclusions for Enoch 78:12-15

Well I believe it is obvious that Enoch says the New Moon is the Full moon. But
he also gives us much greater detail on its phases especially in other chapters. In
this chapter he not only defines the New Full Moon, to the trained eye and with
the proper interpretation, he tells us exactly how to observe or recognize it!
Having myself just recently returned from a one year mission where I lived on the
Navajo Indian reservation in Arizona, less than 30 miles from the well known,
award winning, dark sky Hubble Observatory in Flagstaff AZ, where I recorded
and observed the Enoch calendar, I provide the following interpretation of this
passage.

“she (the moon) becomes full [when she is called the new moon, vs 13] exactly
on the day [at evening] when the sun sets in the west [before she (the moon)
rises] and [then, when the sun has set] from the east she rises at night [when it is
dark or twilight because the sun has set] and [then] the moon shines the whole
night through till the [next morning when the] sun rises over against her
[meaning, opposite of her] and the moon is seen over against [opposite of] the
sun”

Well, are you convinced the New Moon is one and the same as the Full Moon? If
so HalleluYAH! If not, well I cannot provide anything more clear and concise
scripturally, I do have a much more lengthy study called “The Ancient Hebrew
Calendar - research” this covers the history of many calendars, feasts and
Sabbaths. I hope and pray that it will help you.

Before concluding this writing I do however want to briefly discuss the Sabbath
and feasts and provide scriptures that prove they are appointed by the New Full
Moon.

(Psa 104:19 TS98) He made the moon for appointed times; The sun knows its going
down.
(Psa 104:19 KJV)He appointedH6213 the moonH3394 for seasons:H4150 the sunH8121
knowethH3045 his going down.H3996

(Gen 1:14 TS98) And Elohim said, “Let lights come to be in the expanse of the heavens to
separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and appointed times, and
for days and years,
(Gen 1:14 KJV) And YHWHH430 said,H559 Let there beH1961 lightsH3974 in the firmamentH7549
of the heavenH8064 to divideH914 H996 the dayH3117 fromH996 the night;H3915 and let them beH1961
for signs,H226 and for seasons,H4150 and for days,H3117 and years:H8141

The Hebrew word translated here as seasons is Moed and is defined as follows:

H4150
‫מועד‬ ‫מעד‬ ‫מועדה‬
mô‛êd mô‛êd mô‛âdâh
mo-ade', mo-ade', mo-aw-daw'
From H3259; properly an appointment, that is, a fixed time or season; specifically a
festival; conventionally a year; by implication, an assembly (as convened for a definite
purpose); technically the congregation; by extension, the place of meeting; also a signal
(as appointed beforehand): - appointed (sign, time), (place of, solemn) assembly,
congregation, (set, solemn) feast, (appointed, due) season, solemn (-ity), synagogue,
(set) time (appointed).

This is the same word that is exclusively translated as “Feasts” through out
Wayyiqra (Leviticus) 23, the chapter of the Torah that governs the Moedim or
feasts of YaHWaH. So thus far we have learned that the New Moon is the Full
Moon, that it is the beginning of a 29 or 30 day cycle, in which it starts full and
wanes to dark or empty, then waxes or rebuilds to full when it is again new. We
also see here at Ps 104:19 and Gen 1:14, two witnesses in the TaNaK, that the
moon is made for the Moedim the Feasts of YaHWaH or also known as the
appointed times.

Next we must ask how was the moon made for the Moedim? The answer is in
short, before we search for scriptural proof, is the New Moon was made as a time
keeper, it begins and ends a moon or until you break free from the word month,
maybe moon-th is more appropriate! So if the new moon is the beginning of each
moon-th, then just like the pagan calendars we are accustomed to it should begin
and end a year. It does, as I said earlier according to Enoch the scriptural lunar
year is 354 days, that’s 12 moons, 6 - 29 day moons and 6 – 30 day moons. Ok,
that’s enough of a brief explanation now lets see if we can qualify this statement
with scripture!

The beginning of a scriptural year or the first moon is recorded in scripture as

follows:

(Exo 12:1-2 TS98) And ‫ יהוה‬spoke to Mosheh and to Aharon in the land of Mitsrayim,
saying, “This month is the beginning of months for you, it is the first month of the year
for you.

(Exo 12:1-2 KJV) And YHWHH3068 spakeH559 untoH413 MosesH4872 and AaronH175 in the
landH776 of Egypt,H4714 saying,H559 ThisH2088 monthH2320 shall be unto you the beginningH7218
of months:H2320 itH1931 shall be the firstH7223 monthH2320 of the yearH8141 to you.
Two of the three highlighted words in this passage are actually the Hebrew word
Chodesh – H2320, which we have previously seen several times and should be
getting familiar with. We know it means new moon and therefore to our
understanding, new moon-th and by reason of establishing the new moon as the
full moon they are synonymous.

Now let’s deal with the other word highlighted in this passage, the Hebrew word
roshe – H7218 which is defined as follows:

H7218
‫ראש‬
rô'sh
roshe
From an unused root apparently meaning to shake; the head (as most easily shaken),
whether literally or figuratively (in many applications, of place, time, rank, etc.): - band,
beginning, captain, chapiter, chief (-est place, man, things), company, end, X every
[man], excellent, first, forefront, ([be-]) head, height, (on) high (-est part, [priest]), X
lead, X poor, principal, ruler, sum, top.

The pertinent meaning in this case is “Head” which we would probably say more
like it is translated, “Beginning”. This term is prominent in the “Jewish” society
as “Roshe Chodesh” or beginning of months. Most of you have probably heard it
but having now read this study thus far, I ask you according to the scripture I
have provided, should the new moon feast only occur once a year as Judaism
observes it or should it occur every moon as the scripture defines it?

If you answered once a year you have not been paying attention! Maybe I should
have warned you there would be a quiz! The new moon feast occurs every new
moon. The feast of roshe chodesh is the feast of the first new moon of the year;
maybe you can compare it to new years but without any pagan association.

Next you might be asking if the scriptures speak of the new moon feasts as in
plural. Yes they do! In fact as I did, you will probably wonder how we ever missed
them! For example I will provide the following two or more witnesses and you
should also see my study “David saw the renewing moon” which explains an
actual scriptural new moon feast scenario from 1sam20.

Num 10:10 “And in the day of your gladness, and in your appointed times, and at the
beginning of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and
over your peace offerings. And they shall be a remembrance for you before your
Elohim. I am ‫ יהוה‬your Elohim.”
(Num 10:10) Also in the dayH3117 of your gladness,H8057 and in your solemn days,H4150 and
in the beginningsH7218 of your months,H2320 ye shall blowH8628 with the trumpetsH2689
overH5921 your burnt offerings,H5930 and overH5921 the sacrificesH2077 of your peace
offerings;H8002 that they may beH1961 to you for a memorialH2146 beforeH6440 your Elohim:H430
IH589 am YHWHH3068 your Elohim.H430

This passage once we understand and combine the Hebrew words roshe H7218
and chodesh H2320 is speaking of the new moon which we now know is the full
moon. We should realize that in Hebrew a word can be used both plural and
singular and the difference is within the context. This is one of those examples
because this is not speaking exclusively of the beginning or first moon as did Ex
12:1-2, but rather of both or many beginnings of your moons, as in of each one.

It also tells us a little of what should be done “to blow the trumpets over your
burnt offerings and over your peace offerings. And they shall be a remembrance
for you before your Elohim”. This is speaking of the service, sacrifice and feast of
the Hekal (Temple means – house of gods!) we have a second witness in the next
scripture:

(Isa 66:23 TS98) “And it shall be that from New Moon to New Moon, and from Sabbath
to Sabbath, all flesh shall come to worship before Me,” declares ‫יהוה‬.
(Isa 66:23 KJV) And it shall come to pass,H1961 that fromH4480 H1767 one new moonH2320 to
another,H2320 and fromH4480 H1767 one sabbathH7676 to another,H7676 shall allH3605 fleshH1320
comeH935 to worshipH7812 beforeH6440 me, saithH559 YHWH.H3068

We simply see here that from one new moon to another, we shall worship before
YaHWaH. Knowing now that means moon-thly not yearly! Another witness is as
follows:

(Eze 46:1 TS98) ‘Thus said the Master ‫יהוה‬, “The gate of the inner courtyard facing east
is shut the six days of work, but on the Sabbath it is opened, and on the day of the New
Moon it is opened.
(Eze 46:1 KJV) ThusH3541 saithH559 YHWHH136 Elohim;H3069 The gateH8179 of the innerH6442
courtH2691 that lookethH6437 toward the eastH6921 shall beH1961 shutH5462 the sixH8337
workingH4639 days;H3117 but on the sabbathH3117 H7676 it shall be opened,H6605 and in the
dayH3117 of the new moonH2320 it shall be opened.H6605

Here we see that the New Moon is compared like unto a Sabbath yet obviously
not the same. See my study “days as defined by scripture” for more detail on the
difference between work days, Sabbaths, and New moon days. The next scripture
is a second witness to the New Moon day as well as its difference to the Sabbath.
It also provides us with a command for the New Moon feast like the Sabbath, we
are to do no commerce!
(Amo 8:5 TS98) saying, “When does the New Moon pass so that we sell grain, and the
Sabbath so that we trade our wheat, to make the ĕphah small and the sheqel large, and to
falsify the scales by deceit,
(Amo 8:5 KJV) Saying,H559 WhenH4970 will the new moonH2320 be gone,H5674 that we may
sellH7666 corn?H7668 and the sabbath,H7676 that we may set forthH6605 wheat,H1250 making the
ephah small,H6994 H374 and the shekelH8255 great,H1431 and falsifyingH5791 the balancesH3976 by
deceit?H4820

Next let’s look at a scripture from the Brit Hadasha (New Testament) in case any
of you are wondering if the New Moon is found there!
(Col 2:16-17) Let no one therefore judge you in eating or in drinking, or in respect of a
festival or a new moon or Sabbaths – which are a shadow of what is to come – but the
Body of the Messiah.

Here Sha’ul is saying that we should let no one but the true body of Mashiach, tell
us how and when to worship, for unless they are of our body, believing and doing
as we do, how will they judge us? It also reflects two different types of days.

Now let us begin to wrap this up with the following passage on what we have
briefly learned here, some of the “Laws of the moon”!

(Jer 31:35-36) Thus said ‫יהוה‬, who gives the sun for a light by day, and the laws of the
moon and the stars for a light by night, who stirs up the sea, and its waves roar –
‫ יהוה‬of hosts is His Name: “If these laws vanish from before Me,” declares ‫יהוה‬, “then
the seed of Yisra’ĕl shall also cease from being a nation before Me forever.”

A few things note worthy on this passage; 1) The Laws of the moon are what
Enoch claims that the Melakim (Angel) Uri’el took him and taught him. 2) This
verse states that if these laws vanish or are forgotten, then the seed of Yisra’el will
cease to be a nation before YaHWaH forever! Is it of any significance that this is
the last passage of the chapter referred to as the last covenant? Yes it is
significant because the New Moon controls all the feasts of YaHWaH including
the Sabbaths. And the Sabbaths are one of the signs of the covenant between
YaHWaH and His people!

Isa 56:6-7 “Also the sons of the foreigner who join themselves to ‫יהוה‬, to serve Him,
and to love the Name of ‫יהוה‬, to be His servants, all who guard the Sabbath,
and not profane it, and hold fast to My covenant – them I shall bring to My set-
apart mountain, and let them rejoice in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings
and their slaughterings are accepted on My altar, for My house is called a house of
prayer for all the peoples.”

These are those who are covenanting with YaHWaH, a study in and of itself that
Yah willing I will also complete soon, I will call it “The last covenant”! These are
those who love the true name of our Creator YaHWaH a study I also have
available it is called “The Name - YaHWaH”, those who guard the true Sabbath
which I have tried to demonstrate is governed by the New Full Moon, I am
currently working on a study and chart called the “Ancient Hebrew calendar -
Restored” according to what I have thus far learned from Enoch. I should have it
completed reflecting the New Moons, feasts and Sabbaths soon.

All that I have just mentioned I believe with all my heart to be a requirement in
covenanting with our Father YaHWaH according to the original faith of our
forefathers, the original Hebrew faith, the faith of Abraham, Yitshak, and Ya’acob
(Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob according to the pagans) It is the very same faith as
YaHWaHshua HaMashiach and His followers, the Natzerim. All of which were
never called by the names “Jews” or Christians!
The last question I want to address is the one you might be asking yourself now,
how did man ever lose track of the “Ancient Hebrew calendar”, how could we
have lost the Sabbath and feast days?

To answer I provide the following scriptures:

Lam 2:6 He has demolished His booth like a garden, He has destroyed His place of
meeting. ‫ יהוה‬has made the appointed times1 and Sabbaths To be forgotten in Tsiyon,
And despises sovereign and priest In His raging displeasure. Footnote: 1Or festivals.
Lam 2:6 And he hath violently taken awayH2554 his tabernacle,H7900 as if it were of a
garden:H1588 he hath destroyedH7843 his places of the assembly:H4150 YHWHH3068 hath
caused the solemn feastsH4150 and sabbathsH7676 to be forgottenH7911 in Zion,H6726 and hath
despisedH5006 in the indignationH2195 of his angerH639 the kingH4428 and the priest.H3548

This is the hand of YaHWaH due to the perversion of the Priesthood and the
wicked false religions it has spawned today! He says he hates their feasts and
Sabbaths!

Isa 1:14 “My being hates your New Moons and your appointed times, they are a trouble
to Me, I am weary of bearing them.
Isa 1:14 Your new moonsH2320 and your appointed feastsH4150 my soulH5315 hateth:H8130 they
areH1961 a troubleH2960 unto me;H5921 I am wearyH3811 to bearH5375 them.

Take note these are not the true New Moons and Feasts, they are the changes
man made, the many calendars they have created to worship their false gods
through their false religions, which now thousands of years later, have made it
very difficult to restore to the truth! Praise be to YaHWaH for leaving the
enormous amount of proof we have examined here in this writing!

Pray heavy and study hard on these words if your being has not already through
the Ruach HaKodesh been given this revelation! Contact me if there is anything I
can do to assist your study and decision. For it is this very reason of changing the
appointed times that the wrath of YaHWaH burns hot to destroy the Earth and its
inhabitants. May YaHWaH open your eyes and ears, Amein. Let those who have
ears hear.

Isa 24:5 For the earth has been defiled under its inhabitants, because they have
transgressed the Torot1, changed2 the law, broken the everlasting covenant3.
Footnotes: 1Torot - plural of Torah, teaching. 2Jer. 23:36. 3This is the only reason,
according to all Scriptures, why the earth shall be burned in the day of judgment –
see also 13:9, 13:11, 26:21, 66:24, Mic. 5:15, Zeph. 1:2-18.
Isa 24:6 Therefore a curse shall consume the earth, and those who dwell in it be
punished. Therefore the inhabitants of the earth shall be burned, and few men shall
be left.
