Unit Title
One, two, three Lets count!
Unit Summary
This project is designed for second grade students from elementary school, and the main purpose is
about the numbers domain from 0 to 50. This unit planning has different activities like
Brainstorming, video discussion, creating a song using the Songsmith, competition and oral
presentation using PowerPoint, worksheet, and the development of a dramatized poem supported
by the application YouTube. All those activities emphasize and develop the four skills from the 21
century, and they will be evaluated using rubrics, check list, and rating scales.

Evaluation Summary
Brainstorming: the second grade students will participate in a brainstorming activity in
order to share previous knowledge about numbers including recognition and
pronunciation, and also they will answer to the motivating question. It will be evaluated
through a check list.

Video discussion: the students will watch a video related to the importance of counting
and saving money. After that, we will make a discussion about the main idea from the video.
It also will be evaluated through a rating scale.

Circle Race Activity: the students will be divided into two teams (called Blue team and
Yellow team), and then those teams will make two circles. The blue team that is in the first
circle, will make questions using flashcards, and the grammar structure How much, and
the yellow team, that is inside, will answer it. When each student finishes answering, s/he
will turn to the left in order to ask to another student. This activity will be evaluated using a
check list.

Competition Activity: With the help of a PowerPoint presentation, the students will
participate in a competition in order to demonstrate how much they know about numbers
and also put into practice the collaborative work. This activity will be evaluated using a

Crossword: the students will develop a worksheet related to the lesson where s/he will
demonstrate numbers domain. This worksheet will be evaluated using a rating scale.

Creating a song: the students will create their own song using the application Songsmith in

order to practice pronunciation, learn vocabulary, and develop imagination. This activity will
be evaluated using a rubric.

Poem dramatization: In groups of three, the students will participate in a speaking activity
where they will develop the One, two buckle my shoes poem. This will be evaluated using
a rubric.

PowerPoint oral presentation: the students will make a PowerPoint presentation about
the numbers lesson skipping count by 2s/3s/5s/6s etc. starting at 0. Each member of the
group will cooperate in order to download the images and create the slides. When the
students present the activity, it will be evaluated using a rubric.

Procedure
First Activity: the second grade students will participate in a brainstorming when they will
answer questions like: Do you know numbers? Where do you use numbers? What is the
difference between fourteen and forty, seventeen and seventy? What is your favorite
number? After that, the students are going to conclude about the importance of using
numbers.
Second Activity: the students will search and watch a video related to the
importance of counting and saving money. After that, the students will share some
ideas and points of views related to the main idea from the video.

Third Activity: Using flashcards the students will ask to their partners about the price of
some stuff. When the first round is ending, then the students will chance the roles, those
who asked, they will answer. In this activity, everybody should use the structures: How
much is it? / Its ________ dollars.

Fourth Activity: First of all, the class will be in groups of five students. Each student
is going to get a role. One will be the reader of the questions, other will be the
announcer about who get the point, and the another student will be the responsible
to keep the group in order.
To develop this activity the students will search the PowerPoint presentation on the
computer, then open and use it when they will start the competition.
When the game is stated, the student will make the question (related to Math
problems), and the first student who answer correctly, s/he will click the team color
button to move his/her car. After that, this student will need four more correct
answers in order to cross the finish line and win the race.

Fifth activity: the students will search a specific website, given by the teacher, in
order to download the crossword worksheet. Then, they have to fill it out to
demonstrate counting skills and numbers recognition.

Sixth activity: the students will receive the steps about how to use Songsmith, and
also they will receive some keywords related to the lesson which the students have to
use them to compose the lyrics. Then they will create their own song using their
voice through the application. In this activity each student will have a specific role in
order to coordinate the activity. Each group will use the teachers laptop in order to
record the new song. At the end of the class, all the groups will present their song.

Seventh activity. The students will receive and watch in advance a video from
YouTube in order to practice the pronunciation and the mimics related to the poem
related to numbers. When they are able to understand and say the poem, then they
will present it dramatizing in groups.

Eighth activity: the students will make a PowerPoint presentation where first of all each
group will take into account if they have to skip count by 2s/3s/5s/6s etc. starting at 0. Then
they have to download images related to numbers in order to add in the slides the number
in letter and a picture related to that number. When the group has their activity ready, they
will present it in front of the class.
Significant Curricula Adaptations
Students with special
needs
The special-needs students will receive some modifications about the
lesson. They will develop the numbers lesson from 0 to 20 based on
the developing of the Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing skills.
They also will receive support from the English teacher and some
leader students in order to develop the activities.
Speakers of others
languages
In the case of some students who are not able to understand the
English language, they will receive an extra help from the English
teacher in order to develop all the activities. In addition to that, those
students some resources like English dictionary, flashcards, and extra
activities.
Outstanding Students
The outstanding students are going to be leaders of the groups
where they will help to their partners to receive additional
information and can ask about some doubts in order to reinforce the
learning process.
