Smith, Melissa Diane. GMO reality check, Academic Search Premie
Better Nutrition, Volume 74 Issue 8, August 2012. Article.
July 18 2014.

Summary: There has been a growing concern in our country
regarding the use of GMOs. Melissa Smith addresses the fact that there
has been quite an increase in the amount of Americans who have begun
avoiding GMOs. Many U.S. consumers are also involving themselves in
efforts to have GMO made products properly labeled. Smith addresses
the fact that without proper labeling there is no real way to know the
risks associated with the human consumption of GMOs.

Reflection: I chose this article because Smith has done adequate
research that backs up my essay that GMOs may pose many health risks
and they need to be properly studied, regulated and labeled. Smith
uses data from credible sources such as the American Academy of
Environmental Medicine. Using credible sources and verified statistics
show that we can believe that Smiths article is credible.

Blackwood, Alisa. GMOs 101, Academic Search Premier, Health
(Time Inc. Health), Volume 18 Issue 4, May 2004. Article.
July 18 2014.

Summary: This article discusses the many issues associated with
the use of GMOs. It also addresses what kind of foods contain GMOs
that people might not have realized. Alisa Blackwood raises many
different causes for concern including the effects of GMO crops on the
environment.

Reflection: This article really stood out to me because Blackwood
was very straightforward and really showed why there is a just cause
of concern. She brings up the fact that 80 percent of food being sold
in our grocery stores contain at least one ingredient made from GMOs.
It really makes the reader understand that we have no idea what we are
consuming. Blackwood uses quotes from very credible sources such as
the FDA.

Editors, Fight the GM food scare, Academic Search Premier,
Scientific
American, Volume 309 Issue 3 September 2013, Editorial, July 21
2014.

Summary: This article is the opposite of my view on GMOs. It
discusses that we should not have laws in place regarding the labeling
of GMO products. This editorial brings up the other side of the GMO
argument. The editorial proposes that GMOs provide consumers with more
choice of what they eat and that they will save money purchasing GMO
products.

Reflection: I agree with many points of this article. I do
believe that it is cheaper and easier to eat a GMO diet. I chose this
article because I believe it does have merit in its stand points but
it still doesnt address that without labels whether or not we can
deem GMOs safe for human consumption.
