Product Description

The Mobilgear SHC Series of heavy duty gear oils are

specialized lubricants primarily intended for enclosed gear
sets operating under heavy or shock loads and low speeds
where boundary lubrication conditions may prevail. They
are formulated from wax-free synthetic base stocks which
have exceptional oxidation and thermal properties and
extreme low temperature fluidity. The combination of a
naturally high viscosity index and a unique additive
system enables these products to provide outstanding
performance under severe high and low temperature
operating conditions. The base stocks have inherently low
traction properties which result in low fluid friction in the
load zone of non-conforming surfaces such as gears.
Reduced fluid friction produces lower operating tempera-
tures and improved gear efficiency.
B e n e f i t s
The Mobilgear SHC Series oils have Quality Reserve
which means that, compared with other premium gear
oils, they deliver optimum performance over extended
periods in terms of gear protection and resistance to
foaming, especially in the presence of contaminants
which tend to promote foam. In particular, they offer:
Extended gear life and reduced maintenance costs
resulting from outstanding load-carrying and antiwear
properties
Trouble-free operation over a wide temperature range,
particularly at extremely low temperatures
Improved gear efficiency and lower operating tempera-
tures arising from low traction properties
Reduced lubricant consumption arising from outstanding
oxidation resistance and long product life
A p p l i c a t i o n s
Mobilgear SHC Series oils are recommended for all types
of enclosed steel-on-steel gear drives. They are suitable
for both circulation and splash lubrication systems. They
are particularly recommended for gear sets operating under
heavy or shock loads and low speeds where boundary
lubrication may prevail.
For industrial enclosed spur, helical and bevel gear drives,
selection of the correct lubricant viscosity is based on
speed, load, operating temperature and gear geometry.
As a basic principle, the viscosity required increases as
the speed decreases or as the operating temperature
increases. Generally, splash-lubricated gears require lubri-
cants of higher viscosity than similar units equipped with
circulation systems, due to higher operating temperatures.
Health and Safety
Based on available toxicological information, these products
produce no adverse effects on health when properly
handled and used. No special precautions are suggested
beyond attention to good personal hygiene, including
laundering oil-soaked clothing and washing skin-contact
areas with soap and water. Material Safety Data Sheets
are available upon request from your Mobil lubricants
sales office, or via the Internet on www.mobil.com.
