A.TheHogHearth heatmatisdesignedto:
i) provide the exactamountofheatthe new born pigs require formaximum
growthandcomfort.
ii)provide the Producerwith the ability to controlthe pigletmovements.The
recommended room temperatureatalltimesisno morethan 70F (21C).Ifthe
heatmatsarekeptat99.9F (37.8C)foratleastthefirst10 days,thenew born
pig willactually be controlledbecause the matwillbe the comfortzone.
Laid-ons,scourers,etc should be eliminated ifthisprocedure isfollowed.The
use ofheatlamps foreven the firstfew days can disruptthis balance ofheat
betweentheroom andthematandmaycausehealthproblems.
B. M SU -M asterSensorUnit;a double Hog Hearth heatmat(24 x 48,
60cm x 120cm)thathas4 heatsensorsmounted internally down the middle of
the mat where the crate divider is placed. These sensors are electrically
connected to average outthe mattemperature.The 2 conductorsensorwire is
connected to a temperature controller.The controllerwillshow the actualheat
temperature of the M SU which in turn controls all the mats in the room.
Installation of 2 M SUs per room increases the accuracy of the heat mat
temperatures.
Double mat- the Hog Hearth double mat(24 x 48,60cm x 120cm) is
designed to service 2 farrowing crates.See additionaldata on the back ofthis
M anual.
Single mat- the Hog Hearth single mat(14 x 48,35.6cm x 120cm) is
designed to be used where a double mat is too large or not needed. See
additionaldataonthebackofthisM anual.

The Hog Hearth mastersensorunitheatmatisdesigned to givetheProducer
an actualreading ofthe heatmatatthe controller.AllotherHog Hearth heat
matsin theroom willbetemperaturecontrolled by theM SU.No otherheatmat
has everbeen designed to give this high degree oftemperature controlto the
Producer.
The M SU comes complete with 30ofwire which mustbe connected to the
probeposition in thecontroller.TheM SU hasfoursensorsmounted insidethat
take the place of the sensor(s) normally sentwith the controllers.No other
sensorscan beused in conjunction with theM SU.Pleasenotethatifthesensor
wire needs to be extended, use #18 foil shielded wire and it is of utmost
importancethattheconnectionsaresoldered.Do NOT usewirenutsastheycan
giveyouaninaccuratereadingofupto10F ormore.
M ounting the M SU isthe same asany otherHog Hearth heatmat.Once the
heatmathasbeen fastened down,theunitelectrically connected and thesensor
wire installed,the controllerneeds to be set.To setthe controller,follow the
manufacturersdirections:
1)Determinethetypeofcontroller
2)TheSetPointshouldbesetto99.9F (37.7C)andtheTCurvecanbesetas
desired.(Thesuggested heatmattemperatureis99.9F (37.7C)forthefirst10-
12days)

The Hog Hearth heatmatis manufactured in various sizes (see back page).
The heateris manufactured with the cord coming outofthe top ofthe heater
(top connected) or from the back of the heater (bottom connected). The
installation oftheheatershasbeen designed so thatthecordsareprotected from
thepigs.Follow theeasythreestep installationprocess.Thiswillhelp toensure
manytroublefreeyearsofservicefrom theHogHearth heatmat.
Step 1
A) Determine your room layoutas to M SU location,double heatmats and
singleheatmatsasthecasemaybe.
B) Determineyourelectricalrequirements:
i) seeHogHearth heatmatnameplate(120,208,230or240V)
Note 1:An approved plug ordisconnectwillbe supplied by the contractoras
acceptable to the Authorities in the country ofinstallation (plug ordisconnect
notsupplied).
Note2:Heatmatsareapprovedforplug-inordirectconnection.
Note 3:The powercord cannotbe replaced.Ifthe powercord isdamaged,the
equipmentshouldbescrapped.
ii)ensurecircuitsarewiredaspernameplate
C)Determinehow youwillinstalltheHogHearth doublemats:

Secure the Hog Hearth heatmatto thecratefloorusing theenclosed zip ties.
See diagramsbelow.You may use otherhardware ifyou choose to aslong as
the heateris secure and notallowed to move.On plastic floors,use stainless
steelscrewsand mountdirectly into the floor.The heatmathas4 holesdrilled
on each side for zip tie mounting but may be drilled along the flange for
additionalmounting.
Note:Replaceanybrokenziptiespromptly.Unsecuredheatersmaycause
damagetothecordandinvalidatethewarranty.Ensuretheheatmatcordand
cordprotectoraresecuredatalltimestopreventpigsplayingwiththem.
1.Secure the zip tie to Hog Hearth heaterasshown
usingpredrilledholes.Pulltight.
Note:Holesmaybedrilled intheflangeoftheheater.
2.Cutoffexcessziptie
3.Pushtheknurloftheziptiearoundanddownsothat
itishiddenfrom thepigs.Thiswillpreventinjuryto
thepigandlessenanychancesofchewing.

screws.Theflangemaybedrilledwherevernecessary.

Top-connected: Attach the cord protector to the liquid tightconnector and
secureittothedividerwithatleast2zipties.
Bottom -connected: Installwire under crate and secure cord.Electricalcord
should be protected from floor level to at least 6 up to avoid damage by
workersandpigs.
