TODAYS GENERALS STARTER
RHP Victor Sanchez | RHP | #48
12 GS - 3-4, 4.30 ERA
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6-0, 255 Born: 1/30/95 (19) in Rio Chico, VZ
RESIDES: Paez, Miranda, VZ College: N/A
OBTAINED: Signed as a non-drafted free agent on July 12, 2011
Tonights Start: 19-year-old Victor Sanchez makes his 13th start of the season in game three of the series at Huntsville. This will be
Sanchez 47th career start and he is the 2nd-youngest starting pitcher in franchise history (19.1), (1st, Carlos Zambrano, 2000, 18.8).
vs. Huntsville: ...Sanchez took a no decision on 6/3 allowing 3 runs, 2 earned on 5 hits in 4.0 IP in Jacksons 9-6 win over the
Huntsville Stars in Jackson.
Last Outing: ...tossed 4.0 scoreless inning before rain suspended the Generals game against Mobile on Tuesday night. Sanchez
allowed 3 hits while walking 1 and striking out 3.
PERSONAL:... Victor David Sanchez Ranked as the No. 7 prospect, according to Baseball America for the Mariners going into the
2014. Signed for a reported $2.5m out of Venezuela in July of 2011, the Mariners took the somewhat unusual move of starting him
in Short Season Everett without any complex experience despite him being one of the youngest players in stateside organized ball in 2012.
When Sanchez was 13 in 2008, he was the second-youngest player on Venezuelas 14U COPABE Pan American championship team, a roster that included Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor
and Blue Jays righthander Adonys Cardona. Sanchez provided one of the highlights of the tournament, throwing a fve-inning no-hitter against Ecuador and missing a perfect game by a hit batsman.
SCOUTING REPORT: ... Sanchez fastball is generally in the 90-91 range, but he can dial it up to 95 at times. As a general rule he pitches down with that offering, and it has some nice heavy action at
times. He also uses it up in the zone to get swings-and-misses when needed. His second best offering is the changeup, which is already a plus offering for him. He delivers the pitch with great velocity
separation, deception and late fade, and it, too, has swing-and-miss value. He also mixes in a curve and slider, but neither are anything special currently. Right now Sanchez relies heavily on location and
the fastball/changeup mix, but hell need to refne at least one of the breaking balls. The big right-hander has allowed only nine home runs in his 198 1/3 pro innings going into 2014, constantly pounding
the lower part of the zone and getting a lot of weak contact.
2014 Season: ...Sanchez made his frst Jackson start on 4/6@CHA at the age of 19 years 2 months and 7 days. Sanchez is the 2nd-youngest player to make a start for Jackson. First, Carlos
Zambrano in 2000 at 18 years, 8 months, 9 days. Taijuan Walker is 3rd and was 19 years, 7 months and 27 days when he made his frst start on April 9, 2012.
Placed on 7-day DL on 4/16 with right forearm tightness...he was activated from the DL on 5/11
Sanchez earned his 3rd win of the season on June 13 vs. JAX, while recording his 2nd career-complete game shutout (also: 7/17/13 vs. Lansing w/Clinton 9.0,0,0,0,0,8,HB). Also marked
only the 5th time in his career to toss at least 7.0 innings (last: 8/18/13 at Kane County w/Clinton 7.0,5,0,0,0,5).
2013 Season: ...Made 20 starts with Clintonranked 2nd in the Midwest League in ERA (2.78) and T2nd in WHIP (1.09), while also ranking amongst the league starters in fewest baserunners per 9.0
innings (2nd/10.24) and in fewest walks per 9.0 innings (3rd/1.43)tossed a 9.0-inning no-hitter in 27th professional start on July 17 vs. Lansing (9.0,0,0,0,0,8,HB).
MORE ON NO HITTER: ... The nine-inning no-hitter on July 17, 2013 in his 27th professional start as Class A Clinton blanked visiting Lansing, 1-0. What made the performance even more memorable
for Sanchez was that his mother had fown in from Caguas, Venezuela to watch what turned out to be his historic effort. It was the second time shes seen him pitch on American soil and the frst time in
2013. After plunking Dalton Pompey, the second hitter of the game, the 18-year-old right-hander retired 20 consecutive Lugnuts. A pair of errors by Clinton shortstop Ketel Marte in the eighth inning put
the potential tying run on third base, but Sanchez (2-4) set down the fnal four batters to wrap up his gem. It was the 22nd no-hitter in the 77-year history of Clinton baseball and the seventh nine-inning
gem. Current Jackson pitcher Jordan Shipers went the distance in the LumberKings last no-hitter on July 11, 2012.
