GLOBAL WARMING AND ITS CONTROVERSIES

hello friends! To introduce myself.. am akshay and my topic here today is One of the hottest
topics in around the world,... global warming and its controversies..
Let me start off with my own quote dedicated to all nature lovers! Nature is a beauty ... to
save it is our duty!!! Our mother nature is deteriorating day by day... and the only way it can
cool itself is from her tears.... Yes global waring is the talk of day and first of all whats global
warming? The term global warming is generally used to indicate a rise in the average temperature of
the planets surface. There are several direct indicators that a major warming trend is in progress. The
temperature record shows, for example, that the top 10 hottest years on record occurred since 1989.
The record also shows that the average temperature has risen about one degree Fahrenheit in the last
century alone, and that the temperature is rising even more rapidly at the two poles there the average
temperatures have risen to five degrees above average. Extrapolating these trends is a tricky business,
but the scientific consensus is that the average temperature will rise another 2.5 to 10.5 degrees
Fahrenheit by the end of the century. An average increase of 10 degrees doesnt sound like much but
the average temperature during the peak of the last ice age, when mile-thick glaciers covered much of
North America, was only 5-10 degrees cooler than average. Scientists have recorded that numerous
species have migrated away from the equator (or up the slopes of mountains) seeking cooler
temperatures as their natural habitat ranges have heated up. The Arctic ice cap is dwindling at an
alarming rate, both in area and in thickness, and the Antarctic ice sheets are racing to the oceans at
unheard of speeds as melting ice lubricates their paths.
Why is global warming happening? Two words: human activity
Certainly the most famous piece of evidence for the cause of global warming is the hockey stick graph.
So what can we do about it? Quite a lot, it turns out, and the solutions dont require any
help from the graduates of the Hogwarts School of Magic.
But what are the controversies regarding global wariming? Its all right? Its actually not so once i came
across this story...There are a group of scientists who fell what if I'm wrong, and we end up wasting
money deploying green technologies, cleaning the air and water and transitioning away from
limited fossil fuel resources in the process? They say the factor of global warmning is
. Variations in the Sun and nothing else!
The British press focused its coverage at the end of 1988, following a speech by Margaret Thatcher to
the Royal Society advocating action against human-induced climate change. According to Anabela
Carvalho, an academic analyst, Thatcher's instruction to the royal society had a political
background...This is because of 1984-1985 miner's strike she got frustrated by the coal mine workers ,
and thus to promote nuclear power and dismantle the coal industry...it seems she instructed to spread
this issue on such a wide scale.

Some say only that it has not yet been ascertained whether humans are the primary cause of global
warming; others attribute global warming to natural variation; ocean currents; increased solar activity or
cosmic rays. The consensus position is that solar radiation may have increased by 0.12 W/m since 1750,
compared to 1.6 W/m for the net anthropogenic forcing.[92] The TAR said, "The combined change in
natural factors like solar variation and volcanic aerosols is estimated to be negative for the past two,
and possibly the past four, decades"
Coming to second controversy:
Aerosols forcing
The "pause" in warming from the 1940s to 1960s is generally attributed to cooling effect of sulphate
aerosols. More recently, this forcing has (relatively) declined, which may have enhanced warming,
though the effect is regionally varying. global dimming. Another example of this is in Ruckstuhl's paper
who found a 60% reduction in aerosol concentrations over Europe causing solar brightening:
Take the USA as a prime example. The Obama Administration recognizes the need to reduce
greenhouse gas emissions, but Republicans in Congress refuse to even consider any climate
legislation. As a result, government greenhouse gas regulations are the only available option. From
an economic perspective, it's far from an ideal solution, but because the Republican Party won't
participate in crafting better legislation, we're forced to implement less than ideal solutions.
But even though such controversies exists, The 2013 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)
report states with 95 percent confidence that humans have caused most, and probably all of the rapid
global warming over the past 60 years.
I have been interested with science, life and nature since I was in primary school. Since then, I joined
many campaigns and make my own research through reading and experimenting myself based on
science subject that I learned in school. Till now I am still committing it in my daily life, just to make sure
that I can contribute to curb the global warming. It easy to paint a dark picture of the future. Tough
choices to be made between continued global warming or fundamentally changing our lifestyle.
Im here to say we need to act.
The vice president of us once said If dropped into a pot of boiling water, a frog will quickly jump out.
But if the same frog is put into a pot and the water is slowly heated, the frog will stay put until boiled
alive. So it is with pollution . . .. If we do not wake up to the slow heating of our environment, we may
jump too late. The more we know about global warming, the more likely we are to jump and the less
likely we are to be cooked.
Dare to think differently
Dare to change your habit
So i ll conclude, with my own quote " Let us take a resolution ,which will bring a revolution to reduce
pollution and save our population!!" Thank you guys for not going through route 350 and listening to
me patiently and attentively. Thank u maam for this opputunity! Thank You!
