1 Before You Start
1.1 Upgrade Objective
This document guides you to upgrade the feature TMPLS OAM of the OptiX OSN
3500/7500/7500 II to MPLS-TP OAM. After the upgrade, the OptiX OSN 3500/7500/7500 II
can perform OAM operations with the peers that support MPLS-TP OAM.
1.2 Preparing for the Upgrade
The table below lists the preparations you need to complete before an upgrade.
Table 1-1 Preparations for an upgrade
Item Description
Versions of the U2000 and NE
software
Upgrade the U2000 and NE software to the versions
that support MPLS-TP.
Upgrade the NE software to V200R013C10SPC100.
Upgrade the U2000 to V200R001C00.
Hardware Ensure that the boards on the equipment meet the
following requirements:

The cross-connect board on the OptiX OSN 3500
is SSN3PSXCSA.

The cross-connect board on the OptiX OSN 7500
is SST2PSXCSA.

Ensure that the subrack type of the OptiX OSN
3500/7500 meets the requirements described in
section 2.2 "Running Inspection Scripts."
Personnel Ensure that the upgrade personnel have the basic
network skills, master the common operations on the

Item Description
Feature Before switching Y.1711 to Y.1731, ensure the
following conditions are met.

The OptiX OSN 3500 does not support two-slot
boards.

Slots 26 to 31 on the OptiX OSN 7500 do not
support packet boards.

The services that run the IGMP protocol do not
support complex traffic classification.

The PWs configured with the interworking
function (IWF) do not support MPLS-TP OAM.

Switching to the dual-stack mode is not
supported if the number of enabled TMPLS
OAM features exceeds 1024.

1.3 Method Introduction
An upgrade from TMPLS OAM to MPLS-TP OAM includes four procedures.
1. (Optional) Migrate services on the OptiX OSN 7500. Because slots 26 to 31 on the
OptiX OSN 7500 do not support packet boards after the upgrade, the services that are
originally carried by the boards in slots 26 to 31 need to be migrated beforehand.
2. (Optional) Replace cross-connect boards. If the cross-connect boards on the OptiX OSN
3500/7500 do not support MPLS-TP OAM, replace them with proper ones.
3. (Mandatory) Switch the single-stack OAM mode (TMPLS) to the dual-stack OAM mode
(TMPLS+MPLS-TP). The OptiX OSN 3500/7500/7500 II uses the single-stack OAM
mode by default. Therefore, you need to switch the single-stack OAM mode to the
dual-stack OAM mode. The switching is irreversible. That is, you can only switch the
single-stack OAM mode to the dual-stack OAM mode.
4. (Mandatory) Select and switch services to MPLS-TP OAM. You select the desired
services and switch them to MPLS-TP OAM. The switching is reversible.

1.4 Impact of the Upgrade
1.4.1 Impact on the System During the Upgrade
Impact on Services
During the switching to dual-stack OAM mode on the OptiX OSN 3500, services are
interrupted for less than 12 seconds.
During the switching from SST1PSXCSA to SST2PSXCSA on the OptiX OSN 7500, services
are interrupted for less than 2.5 seconds.
During the service migration on the OptiX OSN 7500, services are interrupted until the
migration finishes.
Impact on Network Communications
If the equipment communicates with the U2000 through DCC channels, the communication
will be interrupted for less than 12 seconds during the switching to dual-stack OAM mode on
the OptiX OSN 3500 or for less than 2.5 seconds during the switching from SST1PSXCSA to
SST2PSXCSA on the OptiX OSN 7500.
1.4.2 Impact on the System After the Upgrade
After the switching to dual-stack OAM mode on the OptiX OSN 3500, the services that run
the IGMP protocol do not support complex traffic classification. After the switching from
SST1PSXCSA to SST2PSXCSA on the OptiX OSN 7500, slots 26 to 31 do not support
packet boards.
1.5 Precautions
The switching to dual-stack OAM mode is irreversible. You can return to the
pre-switching condition only by restoring the databases that are automatically backed up
before the switching. If you return to the pre-switching condition through database
restoration, cold reset the cross-connect board to recover services.
Ensure power supply to the equipment where the switching to dual-stack OAM mode is
being performed. If the equipment is powered off before the switching finishes, the
equipment may enter an unexpected state and you can return to the pre-switching
condition only by restoring the databases that are automatically backed up before the
switching. In V200R013C10SPC100, the algorithm PBKDF is added, and three digest
algorithms are supported: MD5, SHA256, and PBKDF. Users can configure a digest
algorithm on the U2000. The security of the three digest algorithms from low to high is
as follows: MD5, SHA256, and PBKDF2. If a stronger digest algorithm is configured
after an upgrade, the digest information of an account added before the upgrade is still
stored in the database. You need to manually delete this account and create another one,
or change the password of the account added before the upgrade.
For example, before an upgrade, digest information is generated using MD5. Suppose
that an administrator account szhw exists, and the digest information of the account
password generated using MD5 is stored in the database. After an upgrade is performed
and the digest algorithm is changed to PBKDF2, the digest information of the szhw
account password generated using MD5 is still stored in the database. You can delete this

szhw account and create a new szhw account. Then, the new szhw account's digest
information generated using PBKDF2 is stored in the database, and the digest
information generated using MD5 is deleted.

2.5 Migrating Services
After the switching from SST1PSXCSA to SST2PSXCSA on the OptiX OSN 7500, slots 26
to 31 do not support packet boards.
If there is any packet board in slots 26 to 31 and the board is configured with services, you
need to migrate the services to the boards in slots 1 to 8 and slots 11 to 18 before the
switching.
After the services are migrated, remove the packet boards in slots 26 to 31 and delete the
corresponding logical boards on the U2000. Service migration can be performed with
Huawei's circuit cutover tool (TCAT).

Precautions
Services may be interrupted during inner-NE migration. To minimize the interruption time of
the services under migration, make the target ports ready and synchronize the DCN and clock
configuration of the source ports to the target ports before you perform service migration. To
prepare for a rollback in case of migration failure, back up the databases.
Procedure
Step 1 Synchronize the Layer 2 and Layer 3 attributes of the source ports to the target ports.
Step 2 Migrate services with the TCAT. (For details, see the help manual related to the TCAT.)
Step 3 Remove the source boards.
Step 4 Delete the logical boards of the source boards.
----End
Verification
For NNI ports, test the connectivity of MPLS tunnels using LSP Ping.
In NE Explorer, choose Configuration > Packet Configuration > MPLS Management >
Unicast Tunnel Management from the Function Tree. In the right pane, click OAM
Parameters. Right-click the migrated tunnels and choose Ping Test from the shortcut menu.
If the number of transmitted packets equals the number of received packets in a ping test, the
migration is successful.

Verification
The active and standby cross-connect boards are online and in the normal state. There is no
alarm related to incorrect board types. Services are normal.
2.8 Switching to Dual-Stack OAM Mode
The switching to dual-stack OAM mode can be performed after the operations on software,
hardware, and services are completed. The switching duration varies depending on the
number of services and the maximum duration is ten minutes. The switching causes service
interruption of 12 seconds on the OptiX OSN 3500 and the OAM and APS alarms on the peer
NE of the OptiX OSN 7500/7500 II. The switching only enables the equipment to support
MPLS-TP and does not affect services.
Description
Switch the single-stack OAM mode to the dual-stack OAM mode on the OptiX OSN
3500/7500/7500 II.
Precautions
During the switching, do not make any configuration and ensure the power supply to the
equipment. If the equipment is powered off during the switching, you can return to the
pre-switching condition only by restoring the databases automatically backed up before the
switching.
The U2000 interface is locked during the switching. Do not configure the equipment using
other tools.
If the LSP/PW APS is configured, ensure that the involved services are running on the
working trails. Otherwise, these services may be interrupted for over 12 seconds.

Verification
The U2000 displays a successful switching message and no unexpected OAM alarm is
reported.
2.9 Switching to MPLS-TP OAM
To ensure that the OAM can work properly after the switching to MPLS-TP OAM, you need
to perform the switching on each node of the OAM-enabled line. Therefore, the switching
should be performed with the U2000 in end-to-end mode.
Description
Switch the TMPLS OAM to the MPLS-TP OAM.
Precautions
The OAM detection intervals supported by Y.1711 are not consistent with those supported by
Y.1731. When the system encounters the detection interval inconsistencies, related alarms are
reported and persist until the switching finishes. You can query the updates in detection
intervals on the U2000.

For the OptiX OSN 3500/7500/7500II in dual-stack mode, the number of supported
TMPLS-TP OAM specifications is different from the number of supported MPLS-TP OAM
specifications. To be specific, the OptiX OSN 3500/7500 supports 2k MPLS-TP OAM
specifications; the OptiX OSN 7500II supports 4k MPLS-OAM specifications, with slots 1 to
8 supporting a maximum of 2.5k and slots 11 to 18 supporting a maximum of 2.5k. Therefore,
the switching from TMPLS OAM to MPLS-TP OAM will fail if the number of supported
TMPLS-TP OAM specifications is larger than the number of supported MPLS-TP OAM
specifications.
