Debbie Boyle
Debbie is new to
Patumahoe having
moved here a year ago
from Taupo but has
already created a big
impression starting the
Patumahoe Community
Markets on the 1st and
3rd Saturday every
month at the school.

Don MacLeod
Don has been a local
resident for many
years, whilst his
children are now grown
they previously
attended Patumahoe
School and he still has
links to local rugby and
is an active member of
Whakaupoko Landcare
Group.

Glenn Hunter
Glenn has lived locally
for many years and has
a successful accoun-
tancy business in
Pukekohe helping
many other local
businesses. He is
actively involved in
many local groups
including the tennis
club and Patumahoe
Village Inc.

The Patumahoe
Looking After Locals
project is an independent
community development
project, funded by the
Department of Internal
Affairs.
It was born by very
enthusiastic and
committed locals Paula
Crosswell and Andrew
Sinclair who completed
the application on behalf
of the Patumahoe
community and our
thanks continues to go to
them. Once funding had
been secured a steering
committee formed to
enable a robust employ-
ment process to
commence. The commu-
nity development coordi-
nator was employed
shortly before Christmas
2013.
But what is it all
about??? No doubt you
will have seen this
newsletter, articles in the
Franklin County News
and events over the last
few months but who is
involved and what is the
project here for?
The Looking After
Locals project is about
connecting our commu-
nity, there are 4 long
term outcomes
A sustainable local
community that is self
resilient and self
directed in times of
unprecedented change.
A rural village with a
green heart
recognizing, protecting
and enhancing our
community spaces.
Increased community
access to, and partici-
pation inthe
improved quality of our
rural and natural
environment.
The development of a
long term Patumahoe
village healthy green
heart wise pro-
grammetaking care
of our local community
and our local planet.
It is about supporting the
community to determine
their own actions and
priorities to align with the
outcomes.
The Community
Development worker is
employed to do with, to
empower the community
and not to do for - this
is crucial to ensure
sustainability. It is about
supporting, advising and
connecting people to
help achieve future
goals.
There is growth ahead
not just for Patumahoe
but for the whole Franklin
region and it is about
marrying the old and the
new together to benefit
everyone. Patumahoe
already has vibrant
assets and passionate
people and by working
together the community
can continue to be self
reliant and empowered
to face the changes
ahead.

The Facility Partnership Fund will be accepting applications for the 2014/2015 financial year,
opening 1st July and closing 5pm 15th August 2014. The fund provides financial support to
not for profit organizations undertaking asset development work, or a feasibility study for a
facility. This fund might be able to help if you have a community facility within the local board
area that requires development work.

The next round of Community Funding is also open for Round One 2014/2015. Applications
must be consistent with the priorities set out in the Local Board Plan including targeting crime
prevention, Marae facilities funding and social development. Applications close 15th July 2014
for projects that start after November 1st 2014.

Community Asset Survey
Gardening and CoffeeA Great Mix
Over 20 people attended the first meeting of garden enthusiasts at a
coffee morning last month in The Butchers Shop caf. Included were
both long term residents of the district as well as more recent addi-
tions to the community. The idea behind the group is to provide an
opportunity for people to come together, once a month socialize and
talk gardening, plants and many other related topics.
Weve given our group the name Village Planters and everyone is
welcome to come and relax, share ideas, bring your gardening prob-
lems, chat and learn from each other. We have started a web page
which, in time, will contain handy hints and meeting details. The next
get together will again be at The Butchers Shop caf 10am on
Wednesday July 2nd. Fiona will devise a fun quiz and would like
people to bring a piece of plantanything will do. So for a fun morn-
ing, bring yourself, a friend or two and money for your morning tea.

Mauku Victory Hall on Union Road is a community facility
with a long history. On 7 June 1922 the Governor-General
Viscount Jellicoe formally opened the Mauku Victory Hall.
The name had been chosen to show that the hall had been
built not as a war memorial, but to commemorate the Allied
victory in the First World War. A beautifully maintained hall,
that is available for hire to the community with high ceilings,
original ceiling roses, a stage and good solid wooden floors.
There are tables and chairs available, a well as off road
parking. Frequently used by Mauku School plus cycling
groups and dancing groups this is a great venue.
