Installing FileSearchEX
File*earch+, 'as designed to !e easy to use and install "or persons in large corporate settings. Other search
tools are assued to !e in use and the logged on user is e&pected to only have limited perissions. 9he
provided installer "or File*earch+, is erely a convenience "or single use scenarios or 'hen e&tensive
custoi:ation is not desired. 5elo') 'e descri!e !oth situations. /ic$ the one that !est descri!es your needs.
Using the provided installer
;un FileSearchEX-Install.exe !y dou!le clic$ing on it 'ith a ouse. A"ter agreeing to the +1LA) the options
are "airly generic. <ou can set a right-click context menu 'hich controls 'hether or not File*earch+, appears
'hen you right-clic$ on a "older or directory. <ou also have the choice o" creating short cut folders and "inally a
choice o" 'here to install FileSearchEX.exe itsel". Although File*earch+, does not need adinistrator rights)
the installer does as re=uired !y >icroso"t ?indo's

Using the advanced manual install method
9his ethod is "or those 'ho 'ish to deploy File*earch+, to any coputers in an organi:ation or 'ho 'ish
to have ore control in ho' File*earch+, appears on their 'or$station. ;un FileSearchEX-Install.exe and
a"ter agreeing to the +1LA) select the Advanced Manual Install ethod. 9his 'ill cause the installer to e&tract
additional "iles to the directory you choose. ?hen coplete) you 'ill !e 'or$ing 'ith "our "iles 'hich areA

9he Search for files or folders: edit !o& accepts any di""erent $ey'ord and sy!ol types. O" course) you need
not $no' these advanced synta&Ds and ay use the product naturally. 0" youDre siply loo$ing "or a "ile or "older
then type part o" the nae) as uch as you can ree!er) and let File*earch+, ta$e care o" the rest. 0n this

9he Search for files or folders !o& also accepts /erl 3.12 regular e&pression synta& i" "se #egex s!ntax is
chec$ed. 9his is an advanced synta& "or use !y e&perts only.

Using the Containing text ... edit box
File*earch+, o""ers the a!ility to loo$ inside "iles "or strings you speci"y. 9his "eature is deceptively siple. 0n
reality) File*earch+, is opening each and every "ile type you speci"y) converting special types into reada!le
data) searching through the contents) and then oving on to the ne&t "ile. 9his process is only as "ast as your
coputerDs hard drive and ;A> su!syste 'ill allo'. 4oing this over a 1EC path could a$e the process
slo'er depending on the net'or$ conditions.

'ithin the "ile.
File &ormat and extension handling
9o choose "ile types that File*earch+, should open and loo$ inside) a$e sure the "ile e&tension is speci"ied on
the $ools % O&tions % 'eneral % (ile O&tions "or. Chec$ Search inside of all files i" desired.
Currently) CA5) /4F) and ;A; "iles do not have their data converted !y File*earch+, and perhaps other "ile
types that 'e are not a'are o". 9o ensure support "or the ost coon "ile types) install the >icroso"t Filter
/ac$ 2.0 coponents.
Eote that pass'ord protected "iles cannot !e searched. Also "ile si:es greater than the "ree ;A> space 'ill not
!e opened "or searching.
Unicode text handling

control the !ehavior o" the search.

Using the Look in ... edit box
9he Look in !o& allo's you to speed up searches or perhaps reduce results !y restricting 'hat directories
File*earch+, should si"t through. 9his edit !o& also allo's "or special $ey'ords that 'ill !e autoatically
e&panded to their actual values 'hen the search !egins.
De&ault search
+nter the path to the "older you 'ish to restrict your search to. Optionally) you ay clic$ the drop do'n arro'
and select ro*se "or an intuitive display o" your coputerDs "older hierarchy.
Speci&ic search

/uto suggest
9o initiate the Auto Suggest "eature) type the "irst three characters o" a drive or 1EC path. 0" the path is valid) a
list o" "ound paths 'ill appear. A"ter selecting a path) File*earch+, 'ill search "ro that location. Eote that this
"eature is disa!le 'hen using the &i&e character.

9he Look in !o& 'or$s 'ith special $ey'ord ters) syste environental strings) and 1EC server paths.

Fixed Drives. For 1EC paths) you ay type the coplete path or i" only speci"ying a server Ge&apleA

Custom language translation
File*earch+, can !e translated into any language very easily. 5y de"ault) it 'ill attept to autoatically load a
language "ile present in the Lang directory 'here FileSearchEX.exe is located. 9he +nglish language is the
de"ault choice i" a atching language "ile is not present.
7a6ing a custom language translation
;un File*earch+, and go to the $ools % O&tions % Language ta!. 9a$e note o" the values listed under S!stem
language settings. 9hese are values the operating syste reported "or your Locale and Language pac$. 0" you
'ant File*earch+, to autoatically load your language "ile) youDll need soe o" these values to atch and !e
present in the language "ile.

Copy and renae the en.txt "ile located in the Lang directory. ;enae it to !e the ISO +,- $ag value as reported
!y File*earch+, i" you 'ant it loaded autoatically. Other'ise you ay renae it to !e anything you 'ant.
