0 Introduction
SketchUp is an excellent modeler which is really fast and easy to use. Even though it can do animation,
with only 1 light source, it's rather difficult to get that special ambience you need for your design. ere's
where you can use !umen"# for the photo$realistic %uality and physically accurate lighting.
!umen"# & is a next generation medium that extends traditional visuali'ation and animation capabilities
into the realm of (interactive experiences). *nstead of +ust watching canned graphics and animations, the
client becomes part of the action by navigating and interacting with models and scene elements. ,ith
features such as accurate natural lighting, real$time reflections, soft shadows, and motion blur, designs
are brought to life with vivid realism and breathtaking artistry.
2.0 Getting Started
*f you have successfully installed !umen"# &, you should have the Plugins menu added into your
SketchUp program.
-ou should also have the LumenRT3Review toolbar. -ou can
also invoke it from the screen menu View > Toolars >
LumenRT3Review if you do not have it.
3.0 !reating"#dding Scenes
!et's open Roman$at%2.s&' from the folder .Sketchup on the /esktop.
-ou will notice there are 0 tabs of scenes already created in this model. -ou can add more scenes if you
wish from the screen menu (indow > Scenes.

!eft$click on the ) icon if you wish to add
more scenes into the model.
#o rename your scene, click on the
expand icon
!et's animate the model. "ight$click one of the tabs then select Pla*
#nimation.
-ou will notice that the animated model is %uite bare. !et's add a
cat, human characters and some trees.

5rom the screen menu (indow, select !om'onents. Scroll down and select LumenRT then select
#nimals.

it onto the model.

7ow scroll down and select !%aracters. 7ext, scroll down and select Tal&ing.
!eft$click 2 -en . 1 (oman to insert into the model. !eft$click (oman , Policeman for trial version.
!et's now add some trees. !eft$click the left arrow to return to the previous component category.
Scroll down and select Plants.
!eft$click #cacia/1 to insert into the model.
!et's scroll down for a 3alm tree. !eft$click the
Palm!oconut/1. !eft$click $anana/1 for trial
version.
8nce you have the trees inserted, 'oom out to
view the overall view.

,e are now ready to export the SketchUp model into !umen"# !ive2ube.
9efore we export, it is advisable to 3urge Unused any unwanted
components, materials and layers.
5rom the (indow screen menu, select -odel In1o.
2lick on Statistics then Purge 2nused. #his will
remove all unnecessary entities not used in the
SketchUp model.
7ow, left$click the LumenRT Inter1ace icon
!et's change the Sky to 3ice (eat%er. #he ori'on to
-ountains and the :uality to Standard 450 min6.
!eft$click the Start button to export it into a !ive2ube.
2lick 8; when prompted.
,hen pre$processing is complete, the
!ive2ube will appear on screen. 2lick in
the window to start moving around and
exploring the !ive2ube.
3ress the le1t mouse utton to wal&
1orward. <ove the mouse le1t and rig%t
to loo& around.

explains each of the navigation keys and
navigation modes.

-ou may also want to try with other Sky 1tmospheres and ori'on options. 8nce you have confirmed
the ones that suit you best, you would want to select exporting with 5ull !ighting >?1@ minA. Superior >?1
hourA or Extreme >#ough 2asesA %uality setting is best used for final output.
8.0 3avigation !ontrols
T%e $asic 3avigation !ontrols are the first level set of controls. #he !umen"# & control summary
displays each of the basic movements such as using the mouse to navigate.

you have closed your !ive2ube and wish to explore your design again, open the folder, ie.
Roman$at%2,7ull Lig%ting then double$click the LumenRT.e:e >for ,indowsA or LumenRT.a'' >for
<acA without having to export it again.
*f you wish to share the !ive2ube with your client, left$click the Pulis% button then Save
#s onto your /esktop.
#he compressed, self$executing file is very similar to a self$extracting 'ip file. 9y simply
clicking on the file, ie. Roman$at%2,7ull Lig%ting.e:e, the !ive2ube will run
automatically >you need to manually un'ip the file on the <ac platformA.
3ress the #lt)9nter keys simultaneously for full screen view of your !ive2ube.
!umen"# also lets you capture screenshots of the !ive2ube anytime simply by pressing the 78 key. #he
screenshots are automatically anti$aliased and saved as Dpeg files in the !ive2ube folder.
