LEGAL MANDATE
ON ACCESSIBILITY
B.P. 344 (1983): Made mandatory the installation of ramps, sidewalks, railings and
other structural features that will enhance mobility of disabled persons during the
construction or renovation of buildings for public use, educational institutions, airports,
shopping centers, public parking places and public utilities.
R.A. 7277 (1992): The national and local government shall allocate funds for the
provision of architectural or structural features for disabled persons in government
buildings and facilities. (Sec. 25)
LEGAL MANDATE
ON POLITICAL PARTICIPATION
1987 Philippine Constitution: The Congress shall also design a procedure for
the disabled x x x to vote without the assistance of other persons. Until then, they
shall be allowed to vote under existing laws and such rules as the COMELEC may
promulgate. (Art. V, Sec. 2[2])
R.A. 7277: Polling places should be made accessible to disabled persons during
national or local elections. (Sec. 29, 2nd par.)
