The Statement of Work .S,W/ is a document which describes the scope of work re'uired to
complete a specific project. !t is a formal document and must be agreed upon by all parties
in0ol0ed. !n order to be effecti0e1 the S,W must contain an appropriate le0el of detail so all
parties clearly understand what work is re'uired1 the duration of the work in0ol0ed1 what the
deli0erables are1 and what is acceptable. This section should pro0ide a general description of the
project as well as highlight the project2s background and what is to be gained by the project. )s
the S,W often accompanies a re'uest for proposal .&3P/1 the S,W introduction and
background is necessary for bidding 0endors to familiarize their organizations with the project.
Smith *onsulting 4roup .S*4/ has recently appro0ed the Website &edesign Project in support
of its strategic plan to enhance marketing and customer ser0ice. !n order to pro0ide more timely
feedback to prospecti0e clients and impro0ed customer interaction1 the Website &edesign Project
will focus on building a content rich website which pro0ides a simplified and more user5friendly
approach for e6isting and potential clients. !t is imperati0e that S4* utilizes its web site as a
platform for communicating new de0elopments1 client testimonials1 recent news1 and other
industry specific information. S4* also realizes the importance of working with clients to
de0elop tailored consulting solutions which the new web site will allow the ability to do. !n order
to accomplish this1 S4* seeks to outsource the design1 testing1 implementation1 and training for
the new website. S4* anticipates that its new website will mo0e the company forward in its
multi5tiered approach to winning new clients and capturing additional market share.
SCOPE OF WORK
This section should pro0ide a brief statement of what you e6pect to accomplish as a result of this
scope of work. While specific deli0erables and tasks will be presented in the Work
&e'uirements section1 this section should highlight what is and is not included in the scope of the
project in broader terms.
The scope of work for the Website &edesign Project includes all planning1 e6ecution1
implementation1 and training for a new public5facing internet site for S*4. The selected 0endor
will be responsible for the design of the new website based on feedback to be pro0ided by S*4.
7ach stage of the project will re'uire appro0al from S*4 management before mo0ing on to the
ne6t stage. The selected 0endor must ensure it has ade'uate resources for designing1 building1
testing1 and implementing the new web site and is staffed for the training of S4* personnel as
well. Specific deli0erables and milestones will be listed in the Work &e'uirements and
Schedules and Milestones sections of this S,W.
8ot included in the scope of work for this project is any work on S*42s internal intranet site.
PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE
This section should define the time period o0er which the project will occur. The timeframe for
the project can be pre5determined or based on a completion date to coincide with some e6ternal
re'uirement .i.e. new 4o0ernment regulation/. !t is important to define the period of
performance since this is usually a 0ariable in the project2s cost. )dditionally1 if there are delays

in a project and it will not be completed within the defined period of performance1 a contract
modification may be re'uired and the costs of the project will increase as well.
The period of performance for the Website &edesign Project is one year .%9+ days/ beginning on
$ March $:66 through % March $:66. )ll work must be scheduled to complete within this
timeframe. )ny modifications or e6tensions will be re'uested through S*4 and 0endor
contracting officers for re0iew and discussion.
PLACE OF PERFORMANCE
This section should describe where the work will be performed by the 0endor. !n some cases the
0endor may perform all or some of its work on site at the customer2s location. This is usually
dependent on the type of industry or work being performed. !t is important to define this in case
the customer re'uires the 0endor to work at the customer2s site and to clarify any e'uipment
and"or work space that will be pro0ided.
The selected 0endor for the Website &edesign project will perform a majority of the work at its
own facility. The 0endor will be re'uired to meet at S*42s facility once per week .day and time
T#D/ for a weekly status meeting. )dditionally1 all project gate re0iews will be held at S*42s
facility and attended by the 0endor. S*4 will pro0ide and arrange for meeting spaces within its
facility for all re'uired 0endor meetings. ,nce the project reaches the training phase1 all training
will be conducted at S*42s facility.
WORK RE,)IREMENTS
This section should include a description of the actual tasks which the project will re'uire. This
should include what tasks need to be completed in order for successful completion of this
project"contract. )s with all other portions of the S,W1 e0ery effort should be made to include
as much detail as possible.
)s part of the Website &edesign Project the 0endor will be responsible for performing tasks
throughout 0arious stages of this project. The following is a list of these tasks which will result
in the successful completion of this project

ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA
This section defines how the customer will accept the deli0erables resulting from this S,W. The
acceptance of deli0erables must be clearly defined and understood by all parties. This section
should include a description of how both parties will know when work is acceptable1 how it will
be accepted1 and who is authorized to accept the work.
3or the Website &edesign Project the acceptance of all deli0erables will reside with S*42s <ice
President of Marketing. The <P of Marketing will maintain a small team of three ad0isors in
order to ensure the completeness of each stage of the project and that the scope of work has been
met. ,nce a project phase is completed and the 0endor pro0ides their report"presentation for
re0iew and appro0al1 the <P of Marketing will either sign off on the appro0al for the ne6t phase
to begin1 or reply to the 0endor1 in writing1 ad0ising what tasks must still be accomplished.
,nce all project tasks ha0e been completed1 the project will enter the handoff"closure stage.
During this stage of the project1 the 0endor will pro0ide their project closure report and project
task checklist to S*42s <P of Marketing. The acceptance of this documentation by S*42s <P
of Marketing will acknowledge acceptance of all project deli0erables and that the 0endor has met
all assigned tasks.
)ny discrepancies in0ol0ing completion of project tasks or disagreement between S*4 and the
chosen 0endor will be referred to both organizations2 contracting offices for re0iew and
discussion.
OT-ER RE,)IREMENTS
)ny special re'uirements1 such as security re'uirements .personnel with security clearance and
what le0el1 badges1 etc./ should be described in this section. There should also be a description
of any !T access restrictions"re'uirements or system downtime"maintenance if re'uired.
)ll 0endor project team members will submit security forms to S*4 for clearance and access
badges to the facility. )ll 0endor programmers and 'uality control team members will be
granted access to S*4 ser0ers and all necessary !T functions. They will also be gi0en temporary
S4* accounts which are to be used only for work pertaining to the Website &edesign Project.
Cpon completion of the project these accounts will be closed.
)ll programming and testing will be done in the i=ab. ) network outage will be scheduled for
the implementation phase of this project. Prior to the network outage1 all ser0ers will be backed
up and a notification will be distributed to all users.
