Product Link helps you take the guesswork out of equipment management. When you know where your
equipment is, what its doing and how its performing, you can maximize your efficiency and lower your operating
costs. Within Product Links intuitive user application, VisionLink, administrators play a key role in ensuring that the
right people get the information they need to leverage the value that Product Link provides.

VisionLink Administration Overview
VisionLink user accounts with administrative level access enjoy all system permissions as well as the ability to set
system permissions for other users. In addition, a VisionLink Administrator has access to perform specific functions
within the application that other user levels do not. Generally the number of users setup as a VisionLink
Administrator within a single customer account should be limited to ensure that permissions and administrative
processes can be managed with consistency and accuracy.
Additionally, the VisionLink Administrator is typically regarded as a subject matter expert for Product Link. This can
include acting as a company contact for equipment activation, application questions, training, data utilization and best
practices.
User Account Management
User account management is a primary responsibility of a VisionLink administrator and, as such, it is highly
recommended to incorporate the following into standard administrative processes:
Definition of VisionLink user roles required by the business and the appropriate access level that each role
should have
Creation and communication of a standard process for users to request access to VisionLink. Once a
request is fulfilled, a standard notification is recommended to communicate a users credentials as well as
the users responsibilities related to account usage and security
Creation, removal and maintenance of user accounts within VisionLink, including user contact information
and permissions. Note that it is important that the users e-mail address is accurate as it is utilized within
the automated VisionLink password reset function

Performance of routine system audits to ensure that the appropriate users have the appropriate level of
access. This process should include acquiring visibility to users whose access should be modified or
removed (i.e. users who change job roles, or separate with the company)
Coordination and authorization of any required VisionLink account consolidations (the action of moving
equipment, user log-ins and other configurations from one VisionLink customer account into another
VisionLink customer account, for example when a company acquisition occurs). Account consolidations are
completed through the local Cat dealer. Prior to an account consolidation, it is important that the VisionLink
administrator work with the Cat dealer to confirm which assets and user log-ins are to be transferred.
Transfer of user log-ins from one VisionLink account to another will result in user visibility to the combined
fleet under the new account
Equipment Administration
It is also recommended that VisionLink Administrators implement standard processes for administering the
equipment within a customer account, including the following:
Timely notification regarding the sales and acquisition of assets that are monitored with Product Link to
enable the Cat dealer to assist with activations and de-activations as the equipment population changes
Performance of periodic equipment audits to ensure that all equipment that should be active within a
customer account is rightfully associated to that owning account
Standard process for managing VisionLink account consolidation needs refer to information in the User
Account Management section
Other Privileges Exclusive to Administrators
In addition to user account management, a VisionLink Administrator has exclusive access to the following privileges
within VisionLink:
Change the icon representing assets that are owned by the customer account
Edit the asset ID of assets that are owned by the customer account
Edit and delete public groups within the customer account
Edit and delete public sites within the customer account
View, edit and delete public and private alerts within the customer account
View, create, edit and delete shared asset view of assets owned by the customer account
Within Device Configuration, change the source of hours (applies to the PL421 type device only)
