Unit: Chapter 10: Muslims Civilizations Time Period: November 6-November 19



I. Curriculum Standards:
4.3.: The Eastern European System and The Byzantine Empire to 1500: analyze the restructuring of the
Eastern European system by the rise and decline of the Byzantine Empire and the region's unique spatial
location.
4.1.3: Trade Networks and Contacts: Analyze the development, interdependence, specialization, and
importance interregional trading systems.

define vocabulary terms for Section 2 and label a map
Southwest Asia.

Class will begin with a formative quiz on the map. Discussion
will focus on the early challenges and differences between
Sunni and Shiite Muslims. Finally, students will read about
the Umayyad kingdom.

Students will review the differences and similarities between
the Sunni and Shiite Muslims. Then, class will discuss the
Abbasid rulers and compare their civilization to the
Umayyad. Questions will follow the discussion. Students will
have a summative quiz on Section 1 and 2 on Monday.

and the map. Then, students will receive Chapter 10 Section
3 note taking study guide. Students will work in groups and
create posters of the growing Muslim civilizations.

Map Quiz. Then, students will read "The Thousand and One
Nights." Questions will follow. Finally, students will label a
map of India's Muslim Empire.

Class will begin with a formative quiz on Section 3. Class will
then review the map of India's Muslim Empire. Then, students
will read Section 4 on page 324 and complete a cause and
effect worksheet regarding India's Muslim empire.

Class will review the cause and effects of India's Muslim
empire. Then, students will complete the vocabulary terms
for Section 4. Finally, students will watch a video on the Taj
Mahal.
Analyze the Taj Mahal and its

Class will begin with a discussion regarding the Ottoman and
Safavid Empires. Discussion will focus on the capital, dates,
rulers, empire, religion, and foreign policies. Students will
complete vocabulary terms for Section 5.

Class will review material for the test. Students will prepare for the
essay and organize their binders.
