Question: what is the relationship between dogs and wolves

83.3 million dogs are owned in America. Most dog owners don't know that
their loving, caring, best buddies have wolf ancestors and with that, all of the
wolf like tendencies. What is the relationship between dogs and wolves?
Evidence shows that dogs are descended from the gray wolf, domesticated
about 130,000 years ago (1). How do dogs look the way they do now in
2013? Are there positive effects from having a domesticated wolf?

The relationship between dogs and wolves is dogs descended from grey
wolves. About 130,000 years ago wolves began to adapt to human society
long before humans settled down and began practicing agriculture(1). When
humans settled down and also began practicing agriculture, they had waste/
scrap piles that lured wolves, so they stayed close by to get the scraps. This
made humans and grey wolves have a connection so wolves would be able to
trust humans. Grey wolves helped humans when they were hunting and soon
grey wolves became domesticated dogs. Domesticated dogs provided early
humans with a guard animal, a source of food, fur, and a beast of burden;
humans provided the dogs with food and shelter (3). Some puppies were
taken away from wolves and were fed by hand until eventually they were
domesticated. Later on in life humans wanted dogs to do certain things or be
a certain way which is now known as dog breeding; but dogs still have wolf
ancestors.

Dogs look different than they did about 130,000 years ago because of
humans tampering with their traits. Dog breeding/ Selective breeding has been
the cause for dogs to look and act different than before when domesticated
wolves started. Dogs have also adapted to their surroundings over the years,
which shows how some dogs have a light coat and some have a long thick
coat. Dogs have now developed problems because of being bred certain ways,
German Shepherds developed back problems, hind leg problems and heart
problems that have now become permanent in their genes. The reason dogs
don't look more like wolves is because selective breeding (dog breeding.

There are positive effects of having a domesticated wolf around. Wolves
are helpful but back 130,000 years and still today, wolves aren't exactly like
dogs. Wolves, back then, did sit with humans and be all happy and cheerful
around them, wolves just helped hunter hunt for meat and they would
normally get a reward for helping or guarding the humans. Wolves were really
just helping out the humans, a bit, for the reward but when domesticated
wolves (dogs) were around, they were trained to stay with the humans and be
more like the loving, caring buddies that we have now.

In conclusion, most dog owners don't know that their loving, caring, best
buddies have wolf ancestors and with that, all of the wolf like tendencies. The
relationship between dogs and wolves is that dogs have descended from
wolves. Dogs look different now then they did 130,000 years ago because of
dog breeding/selective breeding by humans. There are positive effects of
having do,estimated wolves around back then because they were helpful to
humans and also a companion.
