Olaf Habelmann - The Grapes On Your Belly form a Pattern
The Green Box 2014 ISBN 9783941644601 Acqn 23424
Hb 17x24cm 128pp 165col ills 21

This book documents the work of the artist, costume designer and stylist Olaf Habelmann who
died far too early in Spring 2011, making it accessible to a larger, international audience for the
first time. Habelmann had ignored the supposed boundaries of his disciplines, combining
incongruous elements from various areas and eras with objects from popular and queer culture,
to form complex, subtle, highly original and often humorous collages, still lives, installations and
costumes. The editors and authors Achim Hartzius, Sabine Huber, Jan Kedves, Hendrik
Schwantes, Andi Schoon, Natalia Stachon, Malte Ubenauf and Anna Voswinckel, each one of
them closely connected with Habelmann and his projects, present a personal selection of his
extraordinary and prolific work.

Moira Zoitl - Doppelagent-in / Double Agent
The Green Box 2014 ISBN 9783941644670 Acqn 23425
Pb 21x27cm 244pp 260col ills 21

Double Agent outlines selected works of Moira Zoitl's artistic practice from 1998 until the
present. The video works, dealing with the stories of people from various cultural backgrounds,
and also with the artist's family context, are often installed in expansive spacial settings. She
creates spaces of (hi-)story that place a focus on the spacial and temporal context of the people
portrayed. Hereby architecture and the built environment are used as a constituent element of the
protagonists.
A common denominator of the works are the (auto-)biographical approach as well as the highly
constructed formal structure of the videos. The emotional closeness between the artist and the
protagonists and the supposed authenticity of the stories told, are counteracted with stylistic
means to undermine the documentary's claim to truth and the private involvement of the
autobiographical elements. writes Doris Berger on Zoitl's early video works. As a "double agent
in front and behind the camera, Moira Zoitl oscillates between her position of passive object of a
video and the active author and thus exposes the mechanisms of narrative portraiture.

The Green Box 2014 ISBN 9783941644694 Acqn 23743
Pb 24x33cm 64pp 55ills 50col 12.95

Das musikalische ABC (The musical ABC) is a joint project by Anja Lutz and Jim Avignon created
for Typo Berlin 2014. This synesthetic experiment merges music, illustration and typography in
the most entertaining and unorthodox way. Avignon, who is also internationally known as
performer Neoangin, has written a song for each letter of the alphabet for which Lutz and Avignon
created corresponding visual interpretations on 26 spreads. The musical show has it's world
premiere at Typo Berlin 2014 and can be followed by leafing through The musical ABC, analogue
to the notation of a classical concert (only much more entertaining). The music is also available
for online streaming. Enjoy! Introduction by Kathrin Passig.

Eva Hesse - Catalogue Raisonne Vols 1 and 2
Yale University Press 2006 ISBN 9780300104417 Acqn 23690
Hb 25x30cm 720pp 600ills 500col 49

The work of Eva Hesse (19361970) has been the focus of growing attention over the past few
decades. These two lavishly produced volumes are the first in a major new publishing initiative: a
four-volume catalogue raisonn of Hesses known artwork in all media: painting, sculpture, and
works on paper. During her career, Hesse created 135 paintings and 176 sculptures, objects, and
test pieces. As her paintings are less well known than her sculptures, Volume I will be a
revelation to many. Revealed here are 28 previously unknown paintings, including works that
date from her time as an art student at Yale University.
Hesses sculpture is more widely known but is presented here anew with many recently
commissioned photographs and fascinating archival images. Twenty-one previously unknown
sculptures are presented in Volume II, including two painted wooden boxes presumably made in
New York in 1964, in which the first signs of Hesses shift from painting to sculpture occurred, and
numerous previously unknown test pieces.

Hiraki Sawa - Under The Box, Beyond The Bounds
Dundee Contemporary Arts 2014 ISBN 9784902943863 Acqn 23713
Hb 15x22cm 128pp 160ills 90col 20

A very special hardback publication produced to accompany Hiraki Sawas two solo exhibitions:
Lenticular at Dundee Contemporary Arts from 5 October 2013 until 5 January 2014 and Under
the Box, Beyond the Bounds at Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery from 18 January to 30 March 2014.
This very personal book reflects his latest works and installations in a playful way across six
chapters. The first chapter explores his fascination for astronomy, experimenting with footage of
the northern lights for Aurora and at the Mills Observatory in Dundee for the ambitious two-
channel film Lenticular, a loose portrait of an astronomer and the planetarium itself. Additional
works illustrated include drawings and sculptural forms shown for the first time and visual
souvenirs of his journeys across North America including the far Northwest Territories at
Yellowknife, Canada. The fifth chapter reproduces his videos and animations in series of stills.
The book is complemented with a text by Graham Domke, Exhibitions Curator at DCA, translated
into Japanese by Shinobu Nomura (Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery); hand-written notes by the
artist; his biography and a list of works.

Cognitive Behavioral Music Therapy In Forensic Psychiatry
ArtEZ Press 2014 ISBN 9789491444142 Acqn 23755
Pb 17x24cm 242pp 5ills 19.95

Many offenders with a psychiatric or psychological disorder respond positively to music, which
itself evokes emotions, influences cognitive functioning and affects motivation and reward
systems. Could music be applied to regulate the emotions of forensic psychiatric patients, train
coping skills, or used therapeutically to encourage patients to practice new, positive behaviours?
Laurien Hakvoort builds on evidence-based treatment in forensic psychiatry in this dissertation,
presenting case studies, theories and the results of explorative empirical research to postulate
how music therapy could reduce risk principles and address needs while tapping into patient
responsiveness.

Lecturis 2014 ISBN 9789462260573 Acqn 23756
Hb 25x32cm 160pp 68ills 62col 33.95

In the monumental sculptures and installations by Anne Wenzel, abstraction confronts figuration
in a molten whirlwind of graceful yet terrifying forms. She draws inspiration not only from art
historical tradition, but also the violence and destruction seen in news media. The major themes
in her work power, destruction, heroism, violence emerge from strong historical awareness
and political engagement, and she sheds new light on the role that art plays in depicting them.
Published to coincide with the exhibition The Opaque Palace at TENT Rotterdam in 2014, this
volume features many pivotal works, an essay by curator Daria de Beauvais and an interview

The Drawer 2014 ISBN 9782840667124 Acqn 23777
Pb 17x24cm 160pp 119ills 69col 24.95

The Drawer is the first publication dedicated entirely to drawing.
A bi-annual, open-ended thematic review, The Drawer celebrates the practice of drawing in its
broadest possible context, combining contributions from artists, graphic designers, architects, and
illustrators with work from a surprising array of musicians, writers, choreographers and
filmmakers. What do each of them share? Well, the thing of drawing, of course! And their unique
place in its universe.
The Drawer is all drawings, all kinds of drawers, an intriguing proposition...
For each issue, our editors choose a theme based on its potential for creativity or fantasy and
inspired by literature, cinema, music or any other engaging aspect of the culture. Contributors are
then invited to submit drawings related to the theme.
The Drawer is an open playground for expression and creativity in print.
What is drawing? Who draws? What for, and why? With each issue, we cast a wide net, and ask
as much about the state of drawing today as possible through the work of our extraordinary and
ever-changing community of contributors.
Visual, portable, manual, The Drawer is meant to delight and inspire. In-print exhibition, miniature
art cabinet, The Drawers modest ambition is to discover and share the endless possibilities of
drawing.
The Drawer is brought to you by editor Barbara Soyer, and artist/illustrator/art director Sophie
Toulouse.

Florence Reymond - La Montagne Cent Fois Recommencee
Analogues 2014 ISBN 9782358640572 Acqn 23779
Hb 24x32cm 128pp 52col ills 36

A small number of objects recur with a certain emphasis in Reymonds canvases.
On the one hand, there are what we might call the features of childhood. These are sometimes
objects: so the Pinocchio in the yellow polyptych. More often, the reference tallies with a way of
doing things. Reminiscences of childish drawings, a Christmas tree with branches upturned at
their tips, vague succulents with flared leaves, expanses of water and pieces of meadow covered
with a wire fence that may be a barrier; and then these decorative edges, the re-used straight
lines of small curls, writing exercises for day nursery classes, embryos of decorative frames and,
depending on the case, terrestrial bases or snatches of sky, in a graphic language which is, or
might be, puerile.
On the other hand, suggestions coming from one or more geographical elsewheres inform these
paintings. Asia frequently, Africa a little less often, and a site in eastern Europe, all overlap and
mingle. No desire for strangeness, in all this, and a personal experience reduced to a powerful
visual and auditory memory, one of colourful, noisy festivals in India. More the result of an
anxiety, traces of which are revealed in conversations you may have with the artist. What do we
actually see in the pictures? A pyramidal form recurs regularly. At times it is a mountain: it has the
hue and texture of earth. The mountain may assume the colour of butter: one thinks of those
mounds of fat, offerings to the deity or deities in Buddhist and Hindu temples. In the old days,
stones were piled on top of each other: one thinks of those arrangements of pebblescairns
built by walkers to honour mountain spirits. More often, the bottom of mountains, mounds and
cairns is flared to form a kind of bowl. One recognizes a temple, a gigantic stupa or miniature
replica and new offering. It may also happen that the pyramidal construction is a granary: the
grain storeroom in countries south of the Sahara. In several pictures, these mountains, temples
and granaries are decorated with upright stems, unadmitted suggestions of the cross, or series of
pennants. Prayer flags. In all cases, whatever it may be or seem to represent, the pyramidal form
is asserted in Reymonds work as precious and full of meaning: the casket of the deity or of what
makes it possible to maintain life, or the meaning of life. A kind of abode? Nadeije Laneyrie-

The Drawing Center 2013 ISBN 9780942324754 Acqn 22595
Pb 20x26cm 226pp 120ills 50col 52.95

Argentine artist Matias Duvilles Alaska project began in 2008, when he started to produce prolific
drawings of Alaska, a place he had never visited. The aim of his project lay not in the accurate
evocation of the country, but in the rendering of the place as it existed in his imagination--through
fantastical and often nightmarish vistas and desolate landscapes inhabited only by remnants of
human existence. In 2009 Duville expanded this initial project, traveling to Alaska and back,
allowing the observable reality he found there--and later his memory of it--to infiltrate the fictional
world he had created in his studio. Befitting the tripartite structure of Duvilles project, this
publication is divided into three volumes. Each book presents respectively the charcoal and
crayon drawings Duville produced in the three stages comprising his visionary enterprise: before
Alaska, during Alaska and after Alaska.

SITEs gallery space into an immersive installation environment that includes several large and
small-scale paintings, sculptures, video, waterworks and olfactory interventions. This exhibition
integrates many of the elements and ideas that the artist has engaged with over the last several
years. For this project, the artist takes the notion of home as both a point of departure and a
destination to craft a multi-sensory experience that is an extended metaphor for a journey of
emotional and psychological reflection. Visitors experience the installation in a specific sequence
that allows a multilevel narrative to unfold coherently. This volume records the conception of the
work with drawings and studio photos, as well as installation images of the final work.

1966 to study art at Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles, and participated in the sweeping
changes that were re-orienting the art world in the late 1960s and early 1970s, as Conceptual art,
performance, Land art and Postminimalism abandoned traditional notions of painting and
sculpture in favor of work steeped in new ideas, processes and often fleeting forms. Deeply
influenced by Buddhism, Zen archery, the Gutai group, Conceptual art and the art of his peers in
Southern California, Kosaka created performances and installations that considered themes of
endurance, environment and spirituality. The book includes rarely seen film stills and
photographs, plus images from his more recent performances and installations.

Although it has been linked with distinct twentieth-century art practices--including abstraction,
Minimalism and Conceptual art--Blinky Palermos (19431977) diverse body of work defies easy
classification. Throughout his brief and influential career, Palermo executed paintings, objects,
installations and works on paper that addressed the contextual and semantic issues at stake in
the construction, exhibition and reception of works of art. This publication focuses in depth on the
artists works on paper from 19761977, executed just prior to his untimely death in February
1977. Palermos late work is characterized by its explorations of the tensions and contrasts
between material and color, surface and depth, and signification and abstraction. These works on
paper convey his understanding of color as a system of signs. This fully illustrated catalogue is
the first to comprehensively address this facet of Palermos practice and includes new
scholarship by Christine Mehring and Christoph Schreier.

the ex-singer of CAN, in the continuity of the krautrock movement), prolonging one year of
evolving exhibitions and performances at Centre d'Art de Neuchtel.
The cycle was called Superamas (supercluster) and involved four consecutive phases. Designed
and developed organically, the phases occupied the art centre for a year, from May 2012 to April
2013, taking place one right after the other in an un- broken series in which the ending of one
phase and the beginning of the next were indistinguishable. Thus Superamas existed in a
permanent state of transformation. The centres exhibition spaces and administrative offices were
gradually fused as well to avoid the formation of the usual distinction in time and space between
the conception, materialisation and final layout of a show. The constant movement generated by
this nonmethod prevented any clear separation between praxis and theory, while encouraging
visions that might furtively emerge from this organic mass.
Far from being an objective report on the experience, the present publication continues along the
path running through Superamas by putting to good use the residual energy released during the
inevitable mishaps that occurred along the way.

Humboldt Books 2014 ISBN 9788890841859 Acqn 23780

Artist's book: a deconstruction of a 16 mm film shot by Haris Epaminonda in Cyprus, embarking
on a new set of associations between image and subject, source and information, meaning and
abstraction.
Chapters focuses primarily on the artist's most elaborate film project to date, filmed in various
locations in Cyprus and presented in four venues: Kunsthaus Zrich, Modern Art Oxford, Point
Centre for Contemporary Art, Nicosia (2013), Fondazione Querini Stampalia, Venice (2014). In
the film, she questions the nature of classical film-making. Rather than following a linear,
predefined narrative structure, the project unfolded over the months at the various venues in
which the exhibition has been shown.
The book aims to be something like an encyclopedia, being conscious of the impossibility of such
a task at the same time. It includes all the material that Epaminonda had used for the film,
examining cultural rituals, their presentation, preservation and representation. Objects, costumes,
animals, actors and also reference material that was important for the artist (from Fra Angelico to
Parajanov, Dante to Pasolini, maps and more) are here collected in 26 posters.

Yayoi Kusama: I Who Have Arrived in Heaven features new work from the artist's critically
acclaimed 2013 inaugural exhibition at David Zwirner, which spanned the gallery's three locations
in New York. Kusama's extraordinary and highly influential career spans paintings, performances,
room-size presentations, outdoor sculptural installations, literary works, films, fashion, design and
interventions within existing architectural structures. Opening this book is a series of exquisitely
produced color plates of brightly coloured, large-format square paintings. Part of a recent body of
work, they allude to universal spheres or basic life forms and highlight Kusama's unique
amalgamation of representational and non-representational subject matter. Also featured is the
video installation, Song of a Manhattan Suicide Addict, in which the artist herself is seen
performing a song she composed while an animated slideshow of selected artworks moves
behind her and the two mirrored infinity rooms. Infinity Mirrored Room--The Souls of Millions of
Light Years Away encompassed a cube-shaped, mirror-paneled room that featured a shallow
reflecting pool as its floor; hundreds of multicoloured LED lights were suspended at varying
heights from the ceiling, flickering on and off in a strobelike effect. Another mirrored infinity room,
Love Is Calling, stands as one of Kusama's most immersive, kaleidoscopic environments to date.
It was composed of a darkened, mirrored room illuminated by inflatable, tentacle-like forms--
covered in the artist's characteristic polka dots--that extended from the floor and ceiling, gradually
changing colours.
