intelectuales colombianos (Luis Vidales y Jorge
Gaitn Durn, entre otros) que poseen una
amplia cultura y un notable nimo de
modernizacin, palpable en sus escritos. As
mismo, en el pas reside un grupo de europeos
(Walter Engel, Casimiro Eiger, Clemente Air,
Juan Friede), conocedores del arte moderno, cuyos
escritos trascienden el comentario periodstico o
literario, tan en boga hasta ese momento en
nuestro pas. Con la llegada de Marta Traba en
1954 se inicia una modalidad de crtica
modernista, incisiva y no pocas veces
demoledora. Con ella, los argumentos se afinan
y se ultima cualquier traza de complacencia. La
crtica se constituye en una herramienta de
anlisis, en un dispositivo para generar
argumentaciones tericas y en un mecanismo
de regulacin tica.
Abstract
The field of art in Colombia consolidates its
autonomy between 1946 and 1960, and it
is during this period that art critique asserts
itself as a specialized activity with its very own
arguments, taken from the field of the plastic
arts, without the traditional interference of
Church or State. The corps of art critics of the
time is made up of Colombian intellectuals
(Luis Vidales and Jorge Gaitn Durn,
among others) who have a substantial
cultural background and an outstanding
interest in modernization, as can be
perceived in their writings. Likewise, a group
of Europeans live in the country (Walter
Engel, Casimiro Eiger, Clemente Air, Juan
Friede), who are well acquainted with
modern art; their writings transcend the
newspaper or literary commentary, so
popular up to then in the country. The arrival
of Marta Traba in 1954 brings with it the
beginning of a type of modernist, incisive
and frequently demolishing critique.
Arguments are refined and any trace of
complacency is banned. Art critique becomes
a t ool for anal ysis, a devi ce f or t he
productionof theoretic arguments and a
mechanism of ethical regulation.
