This month starts a great summer here with the LBC family. Youll want
to connect with all the opportunities for worship, outreach and spiritual
growth that will be going on here over the next few months.
June 1 is Family Day in morning worship and that evening at our
LexKids Block Party. Our young families will be the focus of the day, as
theyll be leading us in worship at both morning services then cranking up
their Summer Road Trip that evening. Regardless of your age, though,
youll want to come and be inspired by their faith, energy and vision for
ministry. Ill bring a special message that morning called The Battle We
Cant Afford to Lose.
June 8, following our normal Sunday morning schedule, well have our
annual Picnic at the Pond, including an outdoor baptism. Most of you
know how moving and inspirational this event is every year. Free tickets
for the picnic are available at the church offce during the week as well
as at the Welcome Center on Sundays. Also, if the Lord has been dealing
with you about your need for Jesus, this is a perfect time to receive Him
into your heart and follow him in believers baptism. Call the church offce
for more information.
June 29 is our annual Celebration of Freedom, when our church family
comes together in worship to thank God for His blessings to our nation
and to recognize the many men and women who have served in our
nations military. This year, well have a special focus on praying for our
nation. So come expecting to be blessed!
Also in the month of June, Ill be preaching a special series of messages
on Letting Go of Our Idols. Im looking forward to us unpacking Gods
Word together on this crucial need in our world.
Thank you for your continuing prayer for our children in the military. Our
daughter and her husband are doing well at their new assignment in San
Diego. Our son is almost half-way done with his tour in Afghanistan. Pam
and Ias do all military families!value your prayers on behalf of our
children.
Blessings!

Celebrate Diversity!
As we strive to fulfll our mission to make disciples of Jesus here in
Lexington and around the world, its important that we embrace the
diversity we share as multiple generations under one roof. Our children
and students are fnding their own expressions of worship.
They are hungry to discover ways to make a difference in the world
around them. We see young moms living out their faith with each other
as they meander their way through parenthood as biblically soundly
as they can. Many dads today are learning how to keep their homes
upright and their cars running without needing to solely depend on
professionals. Older adults are retiring and living longer and now fnd
themselves back on the front-lines of child care, allowing the parents of
their grandchildren to go to work every day.
I love fnding Scripture that reinforces our need to worship and do life
together. Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel and told them that
they could choose whom they would serve- themselves, other gods,
the world- but as for he and his household, they would serve the Lord
(Joshua 24:15).
We are such a great diverse family. Keep pursuing ways to connect with
the multiple generations in our church. The more we do that, the more
we will look like Joshua and his household.
Blessings!

Student Ministry Families,
Hello Summer 2014! The month of June is flled with opportunities for your student to get connected into this
ministry. Check out our student website through lexingtonbaptist.org to get our latest summer newsletter. Our
student newsletters have all the dates, times and costs related to each activity this summer.

We are taking our Core students to HiWire on June 6th. We will meet at the FLC at 12 pm for lunch and then
we will head on to the complex. The cost for this event is $20 which includes lunch and two hours of HiWire
action. Please email kking@lexingtonbaptist.org to reserve your students spot.
On June 16th, we are taking 70 students to The Journey Camp in Toccoa Falls, Georgia. Would you commit
to praying for these students? We are asking God to join these students together in community, change lives
spiritually and raise up students to lead this ministry. God is doing a mighty work and I cant wait to see the
fruit that comes from this week at camp.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me anytime. I look forward

Orange: How We Do Ministry for the Next Generation
As volunteers and leaders, we will get an average of 40 hours with each of the kids in our ministry in one year.
What if, in that short time frame, we could help them believe that there is a Heavenly Father who loves them un-
conditionally? Help engage their lives in a mission to the world that is bigger than themselves? And even connect
them to believers and experiences that they will never forget? This is the heartbeat of the Orange Conference.
Orange is all about equipping the local church to train up its leaders to partner with fam-
ilies and build thriving ministries. Their philosophy is to combine the two areas that infu-
ence kids lives the most: church and family. This past month the NextGen Ministry here at
LBC (plus some of our amazing leaders) got to go and experience this amazing conference.
We, as church leaders and volunteers, lead out of desire to see change in students, and
even greater, success in their lives. From going to the Orange Conference this year, I expe-
rienced how we cannot do that unless we partner with families along the way. Like I mentioned earlier, church
leaders are only with students for an average of 40 hours a year. That should not only motivate us to see the
importance of partnering with parents and doing ministry together, but it should challenge us to move forward
making sure we are doing all that we can to help students see Jesus.
This world is held by the clutches of sin, and we as ministry leaders and parents must come together and be-
come a powerful, unifed force against the plan of the enemy in our kids lives. God used this conference not only
to motivate me and our leaders to keep going strong, but it was also great training in some of the tough areas
of ministry that we dont always know how to handle. If you are thinking about being a part of ministry to our
students and kids in any way, or if you currently are involved, I would love to encourage you
to attend the Orange conference or tour if youre able, or, just ask one of our ministry leaders
more about it. This is one of the greatest ways to continue to grow in your understanding of
ministry and the reasoning behind our curriculum and the way we do things here at Lexington
Baptist Church.

In May, our 7th graders and their parents went on The Passage retreat, which was held at the Ridgecrest Con-
ference Center in Black Mountain, North Carolina. This was an intentional weekend for parents to get away with
their 7th grader, unbothered by distractions, and spend some quality time with each other. The weekend was
full of games, biblical sessions geared around families, a hike in the beautiful cool mountains
and of course smores! The highlight of the weekend was Sunday morning; parents were given
the opportunity to give their son/daughter a special blessing. The blessing time was intimate
with each family- it gave parents a chance to share their hearts and for students to see un-
conditional love from their parents. The Passage is a great example of how Next Generation
Ministries want to partner with families during these milestones and for the spiritual formation
of each student. If your family has a 6th grade student, be on the lookout for The Passage
next spring!!

Are You One of Gods Singers?
I have been reading a book recently called Gods Singers by Dave Williamson. Dave has clearly outlined the
direction that the Lord has already been leading us in the development of the LBC Praise & Worship Choir. We
are seeking to become a true Worship Choir in which the choir members are not there out of a sense of habit,
duty or even church commitment. Dave describes a Worship Choir as those who are in a covenant relationship
with God to be worship leaders... and the best kind of worship leader is one who has responded to the call of
God upon their life to be a lead worshipper. A true worship choir does not exist to simply carry on an expected
obligation to come to rehearsals and learn notes and rhythms in order to fll a perceived need for weekly service
duty on Sundays. A true worship choir, which I see God growing here at LBC, is a family of Believers united in
their covenant to lead others in the worship of our Lord Jehovah. A true worship choir does not approach re-
hearsal as tedious or mundane, but rather an act of worship as the message and the music are internalized in
our hearts. This is so that when we sing our songs of praise with the orchestra, or the band or
accapella, we are focused upon the Giver of Life, the Creator of All and we experience being
in His glorious presence. If God is drawing you to become a covenant choir member, please
respond to that call! Something powerful is about to happen at LBC!

Current news fashes with protests, fghting and unrest all around the world. Disasters strike and wipe out entire
towns. In both situations, this usually causes large numbers of people to become refugees that are totally vul-
nerable and helpless. Can we at Lexington Baptist Church help?
This question and an invitation to host a refugee family that had to fee their home country because of religious
persecution has drawn your Global Advisory Team to research this topic.
Here are some things we are learning:
1) We need to welcome but be careful not to overwhelm.
a. The family must make many adjustments to living in a strange new country: learn the language,
apply for documents and assistance and learn to do normal things like shop for groceries.
b. The kids have to get registered for and acclimated to school. Many details and new culture have to
be learned and dealt with.
2) Giving too much attention and assistance can actually be detrimental.
As we prepare to receive this refugee family of four into our church family, please take time to
pray. Imagine what you would do and feel if you suddenly had to leave the United States with
no possible way you could ever return. Soon, we will begin a Refugee Team that will guide
LBC through the maze of responding to the refugee situation in a healthy and productive way.
If you would like to apply to be on this team, please email me at alyce@lexingtonbaptist.org.

Praises & Prayer Requests from our Partners
From LBC members serving
in Thailand
In the midst of trials, God has been
opening up doors. Our break from
teaching at the kindergarten was
a blessing, and we look forward
to going back, but we have real-
ly enjoyed the opportunity God is
providing through our neighbor.
She wanted to help us with lan-
guage, and reads with us once a
week. Its opened the door for us
to reciprocate by helping her son
and some other kids in the neigh-
borhood that she encouraged to
participate practice their English.
This has opened doors we couldnt
have imagined. Though English is a
strong felt need, many fear talking
with foreigners, and shy away from
us if they happen to be outside.
Though it may be only a crack,
some doors to other families have
been opened for us to be the hands
and feet of Jesus. May we serve
Him faithfully as we serve them.
Please pray for these relation-
ships to continue and for God
to open doors to share about
Jesus.
Pray also for language learn-
ing, and other ways to share
our lives as ambassadors of
Christ.
From Partners in
Central Asia
Fruit of our seed sowing in Cen-
tral Asia has seemed very slow
in coming, and our sharing is of-
ten met with much resistance. We
have often felt discouraged, feel-
ing that no one is interested in the
MESSAGE. Last January, I felt like
the Lord highlighted the phrase,
Walk by faith and not by sight
for 2013, and that is what we have
clung too, seeking to be faithful
where we are, whether or not we
see results. For some reason, God
chose this last month to let us see
it coming! I have a friend who
is interested; can you come and
share about this faith with him?
This was the frst question that led
to several evenings of sharing with
a very open man in his 30s.
Come and share with my boss,
he is open to these things. Was
the second request from another
source, which also led to multiple
meetings with the two of them,
leading to, We have a friend in
another town who we know would
be open to Jesus, well invite him
to come to town & you can share
with him too. These are three
friends in their 40s who will now
meet and discuss these things and
pray together.
Another came to us and said I
now believe the way of Jesus is
truth because 1. He is alive and
our prophet is dead. Our proph-
et even said Jesus is alive, 2. Our
book is just a copy of your book,
but yours is more clear and un-
derstandable, and 3. Ive been
searching for truth all my life.
When I found it in The Book, it
was pretty obvious. This com-
ment was made by a young man
in his 20s to whom wed given the
scriptures a couple of years ago,
and with whom weve had an on-
going relationship.
From One of Our
Partnerships
J is about my age, a Tajik from Uz-
bekistan. He would likely still call
himself a Muslim but declares Je-
sus is the Son of God, so he is pret-
ty far down the Way.
Two weeks ago, we were supposed
to be studying Luke 22 in a food
court near his bazaar, but he forgot
his New Testament. I was going to
summarize the chapter, but J said,
Hey, I did read it, I just forgot to
bring the Book. He proceeded to
tell me about the entire chapter.
I was surprised and pleased. As
we discussed this, S joined us. I
had not met S before, so I did not
know whether or not hed be an-
tagonistic. I read Col. 1:21-23 and
told them how I was encouraged
by the fact that God can make us
holy, unblemished and not suscep-
tible to condemnation. J listened,
got excited, and said, But you just
missed a BIG part. The reason why
this happens is because of the sac-
rifcial death of Jesus the Messiah!
S then listened to the Gospel in Js
words, not mine.
Praise God and pray for J as
he continues to grow in his
understanding of who Jesus is
and as he openly shares that
with others.

What One Looks Like
My husband, Trevor, and I have been members at LBC for almost four years, and Ive been blessed with a job
as a staff member here for a year, now. Since we made this place our home, our lives have changed in more
ways than one. When we frst visited, we had a six-month old son and a strong desire to change our lives for the
better. Parenthood has an amazing way of setting your priorities straight! God used the birth of our son to bring
us closer to Him and to each other.
I knew we needed to connect with a Sunday School class when we came, but it was scary! Being the new peo-
ple can be hard and intimidating, but I lovingly dragged my husband along when we saw a new class advertised
for young married couples. We joined that class with three other couples and eventually, we all merged with a
larger class, fnding our true home at LBC. This group has become our family. We have grown closer to each
other through our desire to grow closer to God and learn how to serve Him. Weve been there for each other
through happiness and tragedy- supporting each other with meals after new babies were born, by attending
funerals when the unthinkable occurred and just being there for the ordinary parts of living life together.
Since the start of our time here, weve been blessed with another son and gone through an Autism diagnosis
for our oldest. I cannot imagine going through those things alone, without a fellowship of believers supporting
us along the way.
Through each season of change in our lives, our group has grown closer together. It doesnt matter whats dif-
ferent among us. Whats important is one simple similarity: we love Jesus. Thats why were all here, and thats
what it means to be one church. To show up for each other, to love and support each other because we belong
to ONE body: the body of Christ.
This love for Jesus is what makes us one.
