Violence Intervention Partnership

Just as the Gang Intervention Partnership was a collective working toward addressing gang and
crew activity and violence in Columbia Heights, the Violence Intervention Partnership (VIP was
created in !ecember "##$ to address the crew%related activity involving youth east o& the
'nacostia (iver) *he original partners were+ (ev) !onald Isaac, ,ast o& the (iver Clergy Police
Community Partnership, the -).) 'ttorney /&&ice, the 0etropolitan Police !epartment, the P.1
*ask 2orce, and the ,ast (iver 2amily .trengthening Collaborative)
VIP3s attention &ocuses on+
'ddressing important problems such as truancy, delin4uency and recidivism5
Coordinating law en&orcement and prosecution e&&orts5
Integrating programs and services such as mentoring and other supports5 and
Providing wrap%around services to individuals and &amilies a&&ected by youth, gang
and crew violence)
*he VIP developed protocols to ensure consistency among partners and clients) ,6amples
include incident response, outreach team mobili7ation, and media response) 2urther, members
meet regularly to discuss cases, partnership re&errals, street%level mediations, community%based
outreach e&&orts, and to assess implementation o& its violence reduction, intervention and
prevention strategies)
