: finally there is a robot number This is needed as one site may ha#e se#eral

'.1 Using ro0test to interrogate the ro0ot
The BrobtestC utility in %usr%o"en#%#olm$r%binA can be used to interro$ate and
control the I5- silo from the system runnin$ the daemon in the same !ay
that it can be used to control the '/I3 silo from machines that dri#e an
'/I3 silo
Issue the follo!in$ command

If the robot $oes into a "aused state contact the -edia &"s and as.
them to em"ty the I%& station "roblem slots and note the cartrid$e numbers
When this has been done the library should automatically restart and !or. as
normal 3onfirm that bac.u"s are runnin$ and that cartrid$es are bein$
loaded and unloaded &ccasionally the "roblem may be due to a failure in the
robotic arm and all cartrid$e mani"ulation !ill fail The cartrid$es !ould

If the library does reco#er then the "roblem cartrid$es can be re:
inserted into the library If this fails then they need to be chec.ed to see if
they contain any #alid data and if so need to be "ut into a fro@en state If no
#alid data e4ists then they can be deleted from the -edia -ana$er database

insert command to run as the library !ill automatically ta.e cartrid$es from

library is not functionin$ correctly

command line This should be done from the 7et5ac.u" master ser#er

If it is a dri#e "roblem then the S3SI commands to mani"ulate the dri#e must

and "re"are it to be unloaded from a dri#e you !ould ha#e to issue the mt &

The most common "roblem is !hen a cartrid$e does not e;ect from a dri#e

command to that from the "moprcmd command If drstat lists a cartrid$e as
bein$ in the dri#e and "moprcmd does notA and there are no acti#e ;obs usin$
the cartrid$eA then it is safe to assume that the cartrid$e is stuc. To confirm
this it is also !orth chec.in$ the lo$ files for S3SI errors related to the dri#e
These can indicate !hen the failure occurred and hel" identify the cause to
the en$ineers
If you sus"ect a cartrid$e to be stuc.A lo$ onto the master%media ser#er !hich
uses the dri#e and issue the mt &f 0de"0xxxxx re1off command from the root
accountA !here 0de"0xxxxx is the file name for the dri#e This should re!ind
the cartrid$e and e;ect it ready for the robot If this command fails it could be
because the cartrid$e has already been re!ound or there are "roblems
communicatin$ !ith the dri#e To determine !hich you need to lo$ onto the
mount ser#er and use the robtest dismount o"tion If this fails then the
o"erators !ill ha#e to "o!er:cycle the dri#e to force it to e;ect the cartrid$eI
