I READING
Read the following text carefully.

Mary Quant was born in England in 1934. She was interested in 1

fashion since her teens. At school she adapted her school uniform: she
cut her skirt and she wore long socks.
When her husband inherited 5,000 in 1955, they opened a shop. It
was called the Bazaar. Mary designed all the clothes and made them on 5
her sewing machine. That year her husband opened a restaurant called
Alexanders under the shop, that soon became a very trendy place to go.
During the 60s Marys designs became so popular that they were
sold all over Europe and America. Everyone loved her mini-skirts, her
colourful tights and flat shoes. London became the fashion capital of the world
and in 1966

Mary Quant was awarded the Order of the British Empire, a special medal given by the queen.
Then, to complete the Quant look, Mary started her own cosmetics company.
Mary worked as a designer for over forty years and she doesnt intend to stop. She
designed not only clothes, but also bedlinen, sunglasses, bathroom furnishings, wallpaper and
perfume (Havoc is one of them).
If you go to London, youll find one of her shops in Carnaby Street, the Mary Quant Colour
Shop, opened in 1990.
But in spite of all this world success Mary considers that becoming a mother was the most
important thing that ever happened to her.
